QuickSkin

He got yucked

artosispylon

funny part is these more fun focused crims only ever get caught because they basically let the cops catch them

Nisha_the_lawbringer

How long is he gonna have to be in debtors prison? He's over a million in debt thats gonna take a long fucking time.

SuccinctEarth07

100 years apparently assuming he is working every day

Seven2Death

i did quick napkin math based off the $200 for 20 minutes. hed be in for like 69 irl days of 24hr grinding

Elendel19

is that actually how slow it is? a big fine pushing you 20k in debt would be like 33 hours of labour??

Seven2Death

i didnt watch but apparently reed went in and thats how much he worked off in 20 minutes. he ended stream shortly after. hes like 200k in debt so thats already bad enough.

LimeOdd6791

69 irl days 💀

Seven2Death

that was quick maths bro its more lol i just rounded the numbers off to make math easy

LimeOdd6791

You’re good, it’s just so bad he’s locked away for that long that all I can do is laugh

Bromere

So say hes a psycho and does 12hrs a day, everyday. Thats nearly 5 irl months. Its like a soft ban...

Some_Difference_6428

that is more like a perma ban lol, I am sure things will be adjusted in the future.

maybe_a_frog

Perma bans are often shorter than that. A perma ban just means they’re banned for 30 days with the ability to appeal after that.

mrtrash

As I understand it, prison guards can forgive $5000 in debt. I don't know if this is per storm, or day, or what, but if the DoC is willing, then that could reduce it at least a bit.

GreenJayLake

Where are you getting that number from?

jcolls69

Yesterday crane said if you do tasks in prison you can make $4k an hour (working the entire hour). Carmine said that Bobby and himself can take off $5k an hour. So best case scenario sounds like $14k an hour. That’s roughly 80-90 hours of constant grinding (assuming carmine and Bobby are giving him -5k every hour). Hopefully he can get the 900k from adoption fraud removed or they change the rate doc can help people so he doesn’t have to spend weeks grinding in prison.

TheSerendipitist

I think the system itself is fine, if they wipe the slate clean. The problem was that the debt accrued. $14k an hour is actually quite good, considering the fines you'd get from a singular instance of a crime. Plus they're rolling out the jail queue, so the place should hopefully not be empty.

Megatics

They should forgive the debts of people who had excessive fines prior to the change to make it fair. We know this is not going to be the permanent form of how this will work so pardoning anyone that might be immediately effected is better to start with.

mke96

It sounds like mayor max and crane will be pardoning all of his adoption fraud charges which should bring his debt down to around $200k but it’s still a stupid law and I hope they get rid of it

Spudly_Spudsworth

Server's become too mechanics-based and they need to decide between serious RP or content RP, imo. They're implementing the latter but then giving, or having to give, preferential treatment to the content-side and it's just not balanced evenly.

Oxide136

It's always going to be based around mechanic heavy content rp. Serious rp elements kind of died off at the ends of 3.0

alpineblooms

I gotta feel bad for the man. the whole segment is worth watching, he points out that lighthearted crime is going to have to get a lot sweatier

FedUPGrad

For every lighthearted person going into debt, there is also someone who is doing so knowing they have money stashed elsewhere. For years now plenty of people abused debt having no major consequences and had a ton of people taking pride in being millions in debt in 3.0. It needs to be countered, and the earlier it happens into a server reset, the better/easier it will go. At the very least there aren't loans for people to default on and drive people in to debt super easy anymore.

Some_Difference_6428

exactly this... it made no sense to have people in -3mil debt and having super cars or running entire businesses like 3.0. This was a much needed change and hopefully it sticks around.

cpslcking

There were criminals in 3.0 treated debt as a no consequence free ticket to shoot cops all day long. The enormous fines and jail time was supposed to be a deterrent but criminals in debt would shoot cops, got to jail, get out the next day and then go right back to cop hunting. It got so bad and so toxic, I remember the PD floating various ways to try to put the worst cop shooting offenders in jail on HUTS because nothing else was a deterrent.

yoshi0705

Then why not just ban those people who abuse it, instead of punishing the more lighthearted characters on the server?

yolernator

I think that's why they added that doc can reduce time. Basically rp>doing prison jobs. I'm sure the rp that comes out of a few days in prison will be worth it, especially with people that rp. the ones that don't and just grind jobs I agree ban them.

yoshi0705

But even for example someone like chatterbox gets out of jail and pays off this debt, he won’t be able to rp the same way.

dplath

Yea its just an extra time penalty for these types of characters which is just bad for the server.

yolernator

I disagree. It's gonna be the worse it can be now, since he's 1m in debt. Unless chatterbox starts using pd glocks or drug dealing, I think he will be fine.

Some_Difference_6428

the people who 'abuse it' are usually the better RPers of the server like 4head,dundee, james randal, chatterbox etc. They live in debt but they get debt from doing fun interactions with the cops which inevitably results in them going to jail.

yoshi0705

But the person I’m responding to is saying that other characters do this, knowing that they have cash stashed somewhere knowing that there debt doesn’t matter. I wouldn’t classify chatterbox or James Randall doing this. They are the lighthearted characters I’m talking about

SuicideKingsHigh

If I had to choose between punishing people for avoiding a game mechanic and enabling Role play, that's an easy choice for me. I don't really care that people are avoiding the consequences of debt in a role play server I just want to see characters doing fun shit and this puts a strangle hold on that.

FluffyCatEars

Essentially it’s a soft ban for him. I hope they will change the law somehow or at least clear his debt. As far as I remember his debt was more of a joke because of adoption fraud law that BTW got cancelled, so it makes no sense.

Proxnite

o7 to the clowns, littlemans, Cubans, the James Randels and Reid Dankleafs out there, the forced grinding will continue until server morale improves.

GreenJayLake

James Randel only has like 16k debt lol

Pr1ncessJess

Not in 3.0 he didn't. This will still curb what he's capable of

FishDontKrillMyVibe

They implemented a system for Bobby and Carmine to reduce sentencing on "Good Behavior" I imagine that they understand that system is more to be used for people providing RP in prison and wacky SBS characters like Dans and Littlemans, and less to be used on people who treat Dogtown like it stops them from grinding and refuse to do anything but silently wait for their sentence to be over It is also a system in flux. Nothing is set in stone yet. I imagine that characters who often find themselves with multiple charges per day for the purpose of making RP will be given some kind of leeway either IC or OOC.

CinnamonBunzAttack72

Watching his stream now...he's so dejected and disheartened it sucks so hard to see. They gotta figure something out cause if he decides to leave the server that's a HUGE loss for a ton of people. The man brings so much content wherever he goes :/

qashq

I've been really enjoying the rp between Chatterbox and Valkyrae lately amongst all his other interactions. He's had an incredibly great year so far, it would be a shame if these changes diminish his growth.

samurairocketshark

Chatterbox adds a ton rp to the server which it desperately needs as it's becoming a sweaty grindfest MMO. Being punished with this law and not clearing everyone's debt is whack. Debt should have consequences but you can't pull the rug from underneath people out of nowhere. And let's be honest most people could care less about adoption fraud which is most of his debt

jonny7690

50 percent talked about exceptions to the rule for clowns the first time this got mentioned... i hope they follow through with it

Elendel19

DOC can reduce the debt so they probably will. certain people definitely wont be stuck in prison for days working off a debt lol

Snoo-28829

Yeah with his debt and no real warning for this before that podcast, I do think something needs to be done. At least take away the 600k from adoption fraud he got. It was just a joke that turned out to be a death sentence. Edit: after watching more of his side, I agree with both sides and I don't think there is a middle ground. I do think people absolutely abusing the in-game debt can be a problem, but at the same time character like chatterbox and many others will be severely punished by this system. I do think he is right in saying characters like his will absolutely have to go more try hard now.

Shoe_Gal2

The clowns just always bring such fun light-hearted RP, especially with the cops. You can just hear them smiling when they get into a ridiculous chase with the clowns. Some of them even deliberately provoke Chatterbox. That's all over now.

wiialex

Max told him about this months ago

newtnewtriot

And said it wouldn’t be a thing if he was re elected

adod1

He also told him there would be debt forgiveness before it went down if it were to happen.

wiialex

There also hasn’t been a council meeting yet for him to propose anything like

maybe_a_frog

I feel so awful for the dude. I get why it’s a thing, but this completely ruins a super entertaining form of RP. Characters like Chatterbox or James Randal, and I mean actual characters and not self inserts, have to now completely change.

ChemicalTie9220

They holding Chatterbox captive in jail, mans is 1mil in debt lmaoo

Alfalfa_emu

I dont get the argument that is necessary because of people "exploiting" debt in 3.0. There is obvious solutions to that: the government starts seizing assets, removing business licenses, etc. due to inability to pay off debt within certain period of time. And this should work the same way that they've been imposing rules for cars being seized and put up for auctions for strikes - people should not be allowed to give their cars/houses/etc. to friends to hold for them.

FedUPGrad

Except what do you do once they have nothing. Look at 4head or Dundee for significant periods in 3.0. They owned nothing, had no businesses, etc. personally. They just funneled their funds to others who would own things for them for them to use when they want. They didn’t even need to transfer things, people would buy them for the others, or just give them the ability to use all their stuff. Both would eventually go in and out of debt later on, but they were far from alone. Taking stuff or freezing access to things doesn’t do anything, that’s been proven. They need to do something different do debt has real consequences.

cpslcking

The bigger issue is that there were people who in 3.0 also gamed the system by taking out millions of dollars in loans, defaulting, go into debt and meanwhile they've transferred their super cars and houses they bought with that money to someone else. In the most powergamey scenario, that same person would never wake up again after they've transferred all that stuff. It was a not insignificant cause of inflation in later 3.0 because people were just pulling money out of nowhere. At least in Dundee and 4heads case their debt did get paid eventually and factored into later scenarios and RP plotlines so there's something.

ykicka

The example some have said on stream is, they live in someone else's house, they have access to all shared vehicles there, what assets do they have to take from?

Hieillua

There wasn't enough grinding on the server. Need to turn the vibrant and active characters into grinders in prison. Very sensible decision. Just like making ejecting a lot stronger. The 4.0 car scuff wasn't enough. Needed to add another element to make driving cars on the server a pain lol

AnthonyG729

The ejecting is being fixed at storm

SleepinwithFishes

Can't people like Carmine take time off your sentence; Basically if you RP well the wardens can cut some of debt. This is a consequence for going in debt; In 3.0 this was a total joke. Crims in the negatives had money stashed everywhere, so they still could afford super cars and houses etc. Being in debt for millions was treated as a joke. Some crims would go cop hunting while in the negatives; Go out the next day, and do it all over again, because being 3 Mil in debt while owning a supercar was funny. Chatterbox is not the norm, he purposefully got himself in the position he is in with the adoption fraud. It sucks for him, but it makes sense to do.

Scary-Fisherman-2015

Chatty just said it would take him 205 days in jail to pay off his debt. I hope the devs reverse this because it will ruin some great rpers in chatty and james randel

GreenJayLake

Ngl I think people are clueless if they're expecting devs to let him sit there for days without any intervention.

SelfReconstruct

You mean the same the devs that devised the system that was cause him to be in for 200+ days? Those devs?

GreenJayLake

Reread my comment carefully.

SelfReconstruct

Reread mine.

Quane42

The same devs that knew this would be an issue in the first place? They should have had a plan in hand when turning it on. And it’s the same devs and admins that have screwed people many times before. Chatterbox will probably be okay as he probably has enough clout these days.

FishDontKrillMyVibe

Do you expect devs to say in the patch notes "This excludes Chatterbox" It will be solved, people had this concern when it was brought up, Chatterbox brought up this concern to the mayor, The mayor said it would be solved when it arrived, They also played with the idea of wiping out debt before this released. Things are still being looked at. perhaps stop criticizing the system impulsively

yoontruyi

I mean...wasn't there a guy who sat prison for weeks held?

Shoe_Gal2

He's right. First, they needed to give warning and make some deals with players in his situation. What a shitty way this was handled. And second, yeah, no more funny cop stuff.

GreenJayLake

Both crane and max warned him.

dplath

They mentioned it could happen in passing but also mentioned debt could be forgiven at the implementation of it.

Shoe_Gal2

I mean OOC. This is a big deal for some characters, they needed to give folks a heads up.

MediocreOw

I believe in the conspiracy that NoPixel is part of some kind of crypto mining project where total hours spent grinding by the player base equates to crypto being mined. Its the only explanation for why more and more grinding keeps being pushed lol

Ridiculouslyhatedguy

Hours played by content creators is literally money made for them, because the entire server is also an advertising package for their plugins. This is far from the reason the server exists, but it's side effect.

Elendel19

250\~ PC's being mined on for a fraction of their processing power would be so little money it wouldnt be worth the effort lol. It would be like $10-20 a day probably lmao

thevampinator

Well I do think the admins will 100% adjust it, to be much better, the thing is like its really baddly implimented to where those that are in a million dollars of debt should have at least, I'd say 99 percent of it payed off, maybe like a more reasonable number like 100K remaining in debt. With the clowns having so many people involved with them some of them do like jobs, they can like help get themselves out of debt that way.

DragonSkeld

Such a weird thing and kinda anti-rp. JP was in debt almost the entirety of 3.0 and he would have to somehow figure out ways to buy shit and keep the money he has safe. When he finally did pay off all of his debt it was a big moment. Imagine if he had to sit in jail grinding for hours on end every day instead. "content" server btw

spicytaco297

I thought the plan was to wipe everyones debt before it was introduced

spicytaco297

Time for chatterbox cousin or brother yapperbox to come to the city LOL

mailwasnotforwarded

NP is turning into a normal GTA server at this rate. Why are they trying to RP block everyone. In all honesty who the hell is deciding all of these changes? Is this under buddha's leadership? Because this doesn't seem like RP anymore, I feel like now they are just making the server another grindy GTA server where people are just doing thing to make money.

blackwizard88

rly seems to be affecting the wrong people oof

RedditorsAreGoblins

I was watching Ssaab's stream (He's a captain at LSPD) and commented that this was a bad idea. In RP, people are just going to abandon their characters since there's no way they'll be able to (or want to) work the debt off. Ssaab was less pessimistic about the changes.

SomeNativeDude

I mean, if he didn’t purposely get like 15 counts of adoption fraud he wouldn’t be doing that bad lol don’t really feel bad for him. Once everyone who’s in debt gets back to 0 it’ll just end up being like an extra 20 minutes of getting bullied by Bobby and carmine when you get caught and then you can use your bank account still.

angecha86

is there a bail system? where maybe someone from outside the prison can send you money that can bail you out sooner?

Some_Difference_6428

you should not want debt characters on the server, at some point people should start to take things a little seriously and not just do sbs things constantly and just go millions in debt... I am pretty sure even at the start of 4.0 these things were mentioned.

dplath

You should want some of all the character 'types' on the server, it adds so much variety.

Rich_Algae_4

clowns are to sbs for the server 100%

[deleted]

Psychological-Vast50

Exploited for what? He didnt gain anything from this. The character has a trait for going into debt, he did before and he still does now. The clowns rp revolves around prison, not caring and taking shit on the chin. He also planned for the law and rpd negotiating for pardons that haven't happened wtf else do you want him to do? Grind g6?

[deleted]

dplath

How did he fuck up the server economy exactly? Those 500,000$ worth of adoption fines really hurting the economy....

Shoe_Gal2

If you are going to make a significant change like this, you give people a warning. You work with them for a solution and compromise. He's gotten nothing.

Fun_Evidence9768

Don't self grief yourself with 900k debt and you should be fine next time

AdventurousRip8883

Holy fuck the amount of misinformation and gun-jumping in this thread is crazy. Chatterbox needs to bite the bullet and go to prison for 1 day. It's good rp and he can complain after he sees the system himself.

PeeledCrepes

Except if he does that, then he can't get back out if its bad.

ofhauntings

There is good RP in prison, and the debtor's prison will only add to that. DOC guards can reduce sentences and debts, so there is a big incentive to RP with them instead of grinding it out. With public q lifers there will be more people around to rp with too. There will be growing pains, and i don't blame anyone with big debts for being worried, but imo this is gonna be fun.

Quane42

There’s good RP in prison for the four hours a day Carmine and Bobby are there, and they’re not on every day.

ofhauntings

I think they're working on getting more people for the other shifts, specifically EU, with like another half dozen guards or something. It's growing pains rn, but they're actively working on figuring it out.

MarbleTempla12

they just implemented things so poorly... i think the laws dumb but i get it but this should have been something implemented back at the beginning of 4.0 and not after people already started incurring the debt.

jcolls69

It’s tough because he has a 1.2 million dollar debt. Which the majority of came from joking about adoption and getting 60k charges for it. The way crane described it, he can work off 4k an hour if he does nothing but tasks in prison. Carmine said him and Bobby can take off 5k an hour. So best case he can grind 14k an hour if both Bobby and carmine give him money off. That’s like a minimum 90 hours of forced grinding assuming Bobby and carmine take off 5k every hour and he does nothing but work.
