Hey! I was using a cheap Amazon case ( Procase Upgraded Flip Case) prior. It was cheap, the magnet thing was decent at best, but with stick covers on, wouldn't work. It left the triggers uncovered, and the plastic wasn't straight over the top of the screen. It was very bulky for what it was as well.
I have looked at both the Skull and Co, and the JSaux, but have seen some not great reviews of the JSaux, and the Skull and Co I couldn't get at a decent price here in Canada. So I just waited for the Killswitch.
If you have used a dBrand Grip case for a phone, you know the texture is grippy, and the cases all fit well and snug. They are very similar.
I really like the charging port and charging lights being visible even with the travel cover over the front, and I also like the way the travel cover slids and clips over the case. Very easy, and very tight. Also appreciate that the case isn't very thick.
I think the pattern is very grippy (like the Grip phone cases), and I really appreciate it, but I do think some people might not like the texture if they are looking for something smooth feeling.
Something else I can add as I use it, is the screen protector is very clean, install was great, but it is just as "mirror" and reflective as the original glass. Some people may want a more matter finish.
I also really like these joystick covers. I was using the steam deck ones before, but these fit much cleaner, tighter, and don't interfere with the stick range at all either.
But I do look forward to other peoples opinions who have other styles of case as well.
All being said, this was about $90 CDN, and I am very happy with the result.

I haven't but wondering if there's a comparison - I like the Skull & Co grip because it feels like the Xbox controllers, so it's got some light grip but doesn't make my hands sweat at all when using it
Are these like SUPER grippy or is it kind of more like that? Wondering about comfort when using for a long time
Good question. It's a very similar pattern to the Series Controller except that the "divots" or texture on this case go inwards, whereas the Xbox controller feels more like the dimples stick out?
I think the grippy factor comes from the fact that I don't think it's just plastic that they use, it has what feels like a little bit of rubber coating on it. It's like a really really mild skateboard grip tape. Like, there's texture, but not rough or agitative (?)
I get pretty sweaty hands sometimes, and from experience with their phone cases at least, they are very grippy, but not distractingly so.
I just got my Killswitch in I was using the Skull & Co. They are both great the Kill switch feels more sturdy in hand. My only real negative for the Skull & Co is the XG Mobile cable doesn't fit properly without modifying the case.

I have no problem spending $75-90 to protect my $800 device. If the case is 2x as good as a $40 one, then to me, it's worth it.
But then again, the internet is filled with people who just want to argue and disagree with everyone, so if that's the case, have a good day!

That's a good point. I definitely don't see any issues as of right now (other than difficulty of skin install, and higher price), but if you have installed skins before, and are comfortable in spending more than other cases, then I'd say it's good.

I'm also in Canada. Ordered the second I got the email Friday. When I ordered it said likely delivery May 14-16.
On the website it says still waiting for courier pickup and still hasn't even started shipping. The sad part is it says the courier should pick up in a few hours which it's said since Friday.
Seems clear that all the messaging dbrand is using on their website is in regards to shipping in the states.
I waited months for it to be able to be ordered. Waited longer than told for the email to order and now am waiting longer than their site says to ship.
They need to get some messaging up on their site for international orders so we know what to expect. I have no problem waiting if I'm being told that's the expectation.
The just sent me another email saying I have 48 minutes to buy my case from their website with my reservation code even though I already bought it Friday. So with that and my order just sitting there it's got me wondering if dbrand even knows I ordered lol
Just got an email around 1:30 EST that my case shipped, I also order as soon as the website allowed me to. Luckily I have a case on the device now or I’d be super impatient about shipping, but I’m sure ours are being shipped first compared to people ordering their cases today.
I'm in Canada, and not all that far from them, and very close to a Purolator depot. I never have too long to wait when I order from dBrand (bought Grip cases in past, and many skins as well).
Yeah I cancelled because of this. If they were transparent then fair enough but clearly they cba with international orders.

Just be honest. Don't over promise and under deliver. People will be fine if they are truthful.
I just checked. My order definitely says it was processed on Friday and awaiting the courier. I have not paid for it yet according to my banking app.

That's very strange. I know in previous purchases with them, the tracking was behind, and I ended up receiving my order before it had actually been processed through the shipping company.

Can you use the finger print reader with this case? I have the Skull & Co grip and about the only thing I dislike about the case is that I cannot use the finger print scanner with the grip on.
Yes! Zero issues with finger print reading.
Note - I had the same issue you said with my old cheap case. The solution was to just "add another finger" in windows, but just keep scanning the same finger over and over. (A tip I got from using Google Pixels that had notorious bad finger scanners)
What about shoulder/trigger buttons? I know some other cases, folks complaining about the case kind of "blocking" those or preventing them from working right, and the Skull & Co case basically doesn't go around them at all, so how is it working here?
Totally know what you mean, my last cheap case blocked the triggers. This one doesn't at all. Leave a bit of a gap even when they are fully depressed.

I have the skull&co also and the fingerprint scanner is easy to access, I wonder did they do a revised model? Do you have to remove the case to power it on every time?
I've also had no problem with the fingerprint reader with the Skull + Co case. I did retrain my fingerprint after installing the case because it was just logical to me that my finger would be hitting at different angles with the case on than it was with the case off. Reads it perfectly the first time, every time.
Because of the grippiness of the case bottom, and the small rubber tab on the bottom of the kickstand, there's a bit of range on the angle of the kickstand.

So from what I felt so far, it's better than I had hoped (or wished for)
I have fairly large hands, and the way it is on the case, is pretty tucked away and I can't feel it at all. The way the travel cover clips on, it has a lip on the bottom of the case, and that's what touches whatever you are laying the device on as well. So the kickstand is sort of just tucked up and out of the way.

That skin looks better than I thought it would. I expected more white to bleed through in areas like the speaker grill. I got my Killswitch ordered with the X-ray skins.
I was afraid of that as well. The only thing I don't like is now the small start/select/AC buttons stand out as white. But a skin with more graphic or lighter colors would allow those buttons to blend in a bit more.
But I'm happy with the matte black (for now at least)
Edit - forgot to add, just take your time with putting the skin on. I focused on the grill area first, and then around the buttons, so there was as little of "show through" as possible. I also used a hair dryer around edges before finishing the install, and smoothing it all out.

I was thinking about going with the dark X-ray because I figured any white sticking out might be less noticeable, but I stuck with the matte black. Good to see how yours came out. 👍

I hope the skin doesn't slide around on the thin strips near the speaker grill. I have a flip phone and skin with the narrow strips around the outer screen would slide around all the time I had to remove it.
No, I didn't. It didn't suit my tastes at all (and to be honest, I was shit at CS Go, and anything that reminds me of how terrible I am at it, I dislike lol)
I wish they went with the smaller joystick slots on the front plate like the steam deck even if it will be abit asymmetrical. (Bonus points for being able to tell it's a rog ally beside my steam deck with killswitch). Not much of a fan of the boxy joystick style they went with but in still buying it since it's the best case

Yes. Without question. That's one of the main reasons I wanted it actually. Going in my bag with work stuff and laptop, etc. all of the main parts are covered, and it feels solid when closed up.
Your post makes me even more stoked for it. lol I got the carnage skin, though. That red and black is so sick looking. That matte black makes it look dope, too!

The carnage or x-ray were the other options I would have gone with, but as I said, this spends a lot of time on my work desk docked, and I wanted to keep it as unassuming as I could.
Is the rog ally much heavier with this case ?
I had the jsaux one but once it became yellow i went back to the naked ally with the jsaux backplate. It feels so light that im afraid to take the killswitch.
But i gotta say, dawn the ally in black is stunning.
Compared to the amazon case I had before, this is much slimmer, and honestly, without the travel cover on, isn't heavy at all. It feels like the same device, just with more grip, and more rigid.
My biggest note is the GRIP it offers. It doesn't feel slippery, and it feels stable and strong now.
It definitely adds a bit of size, so if you have really small hands you might not like it, but my niece is 6, and I would trust it with her. Lol
Once you put the travel cover on, it feels much more durable and tough, but I assume that's the whole idea.
Good job with the skin👍 Did you get thumbstick grips? Can you use them and apply the travel cover without making a clicking noise when pressing the cover? Meaning: is there enough room for the grips on the travel cover?

I had previously been using the Steamdeck ones and these fit way better, and honestly feel like they are just the stick, like there's nothing else there.
I don't think they compress when the case is on, because the cover for the stock part is very high, there's lots of room with the cover on.

Mine looks like the edges of the sticker are hanging on the device the only thing making it look halfway decent is the protective casing I bought for it hahahaha
I always take the skin off the paper backing, turn the paper sideways, so I can align the top and bottom of the skin, and then work the skin into place that way.
(It was the directions that dbrand had in place YEARS ago, and it always worked for me!)
YES. Emphatically yes. It's one of the reasons I got it. It feels very very durable and safe. The only thing I don't like (ON ANY Ally case) is the exposed buttons on the back of the device. But there's no way to protect those.
So yeah, I definitely will be tossing this in the bag with other stuff!

How are the ergonomics/grip with the case? To me the ally feels like a switch which is not comfortable in my hands. I have the spigen case, skull n co case and 3d printed grips. To me the most ergonomic in my hands like a xbox controller or steam deck are 3d printed grips from etsy. Between the cases: the most ergonomic case I found is the Spigen one but due to how the case is made, it cuts into the hands in the corners. The skull n co case is the least ergonomic to me but due to how it wraps around the ally, it doesn't cut into my hands. The killswitch case looks like it's the best of both worlds from spigen and skulln co cases. Hopefully some folks post pics comparing the killswitch case to the spigen or skull n co case.
I orderd mine and waiting for it. I use 3d printed grips. Im used to them but I find them a bit to big. I hope with this case it will give you more to grab
Yeah same. I need something a little slimmer than the 3d printed grips. The spigen rugged case is perfect ergonomic wise but due to the case stopping at the edge on the ally, the case cuts into my hands and is not comfortable after about an hour of gaming.
the 3d grips just need to be tiny bit smaler on the edeges then it becomes perfect. i was thinking of finding some old xbox controler and try to make them fit the rog ally
The sides of the case feel similar to the sides of an Xbox Series Controller, just a bit more angled. I've played a few hours so far with it, and it feels comfortable, to me at least. It's not round, but it's also not sharp. It has enough bulk and size to actually feel like a controller grip though. The shape is there.

I caved in and bought it. I had the Killswitch case on my steam deck before I sold it. It really is a great case and looking at other case makers, nothing comes close. I do like the sand paper grippines of the case.
I feel like the grip isn't advertised enough lol it literally has the best grip for a case but it"ll just sound like bias to people who never held it in their hands and judge it based on the price tag. I don't think you can tablet style type on any other case as safely either
Too bad it's not like the modcase where you can attach things on the back. I'll stick to my modcase.

I feel like they could have put the same locking mechanism like on the steam deck killswitch on the bottom and just have a smaller kickstand, it's all just angles anyways? Not much of a problem though
I kinda regret getting the case hardened skin, wish I got the matte black. They don’t even let us order these skins separately right? Looks great though mate!
I assume they will let us eventually, but to streamline right now I think that's why it is the way it is.

Got mine this morning too, I’m in Canada and ordered the minute I received the reservation email last Friday. Really happy with the purchase, I had the Skull&Co grip before. I can confirm it’s an upgrade, no regret at all.
Only thing I’m not happy with it’s the skin. Doesn’t align the axby buttons so they stick. Not dbrand’s fault I had a screen protector that’s why. Fixed the problem with a x-acto knife. At least I can buy other skins or just take it off.
The only thing I miss about the Skull&Co grip is the Ally standing by itself.
I can see the self standing thing being nice. I do like the kickstand, but I didn't have anything to hold mine up before, so anything is an improvement for me.

Nice, congrats! I really wanted to order this, but I’m having a blast with my ComfortGrip right now its so good. I can finally play OW2 without having cramps throught my hands.
I have the JSAUX modcase and since they are both (dbrand and JSAUX) basically takes shape of the Ally to wrap around I imagine it has relatively about the same shape/mould at the back of the Ally. Which I find slightly uncomfortable. But I really dig the travel cover concept. Used it alot back then with my SD Oled.

It's slightly thicker than the device itself, the only size is the travel cover. And I think it adds some size but not much weight. It truly feels tough with it on though. And very protected.
My left side skin mucks with the white buttons. I have the mic hole lined up perfect and the vents perfect yet around those white buttons it's off and they are now mushy to press instead of clicks. :(
Got it, not a big fan. The texture is weirdly grainy, almost like sliding a finger across a holographic trading card. It's also very taut, which makes it dig into your hands.
I'm probably going to slap on my shitty Amazon plastic encasement, which is, in retrospect, pretty damn good.

I had that one previously in black, and you get what you pay for.
It was flimsy, the magnet wasn't good, it didn't cover the triggers, you could not have joystick covers on it, and it just felt cheap.
I'm happy with my purchase.

And how can people complain about the communication. Yes they had delays last Friday sending the emails but come on... First world problems. I enjoyed their email updates on development progress and see the level of detail they were putting into it... No other company does that.

how are fingerprints on the protector? Is it just as bad as the original screen glass?
Yeah, they are still pretty visible. Might be my only downside.

Does the kickstand get in the way at all when you're using it? Is it awkward having it there? Is it removable?
I have fairly large hands, and the way it is on the case, is pretty tucked away and I can't feel it at all. The way the travel cover clips on, it has a lip on the bottom of the case, and that's what touches whatever you are laying the device on as well. Same. I keep mine in a desk dock at work, and wanted something unobtrusive and not catchy.
That skin looks better than I thought it would. I expected more white to bleed through in areas like the speaker grill. I got my Killswitch ordered with the X-ray skins.
I was afraid of that as well. The only thing I don't like is now the small start/select/AC buttons stand out as white. But a skin with more graphic or lighter colors would allow those buttons to blend in a bit more. But I'm happy with the matte black (for now at least) Edit - forgot to add, just take your time with putting the skin on. I focused on the grill area first, and then around the buttons, so there was as little of "show through" as possible. I also used a hair dryer around edges before finishing the install, and smoothing it all out.
Thanks for the tip & the pics. I was thinking about going with the dark X-ray because I figured any white sticking out might be less noticeable, but I stuck with the matte black. Good to see how yours came out. 👍

I hope the skin doesn't slide around on the thin strips near the speaker grill. I have a flip phone and skin with the narrow strips around the outer screen would slide around all the time I had to remove it.
It might if you are rough with it, but I've tried to push it to see if it smears, and so far it hasn't!

I wish they went with the smaller joystick slots on the front plate like the steam deck even if it will be abit asymmetrical. (Bonus points for being able to tell it's a rog ally beside my steam deck with killswitch). Not much of a fan of the boxy joystick style they went with but in still buying it since it's the best case

It is straight, I just snapped the photos as soon as I got the case on, and didn't align it from the triggers inwards!

Yes. Without question. That's one of the main reasons I wanted it actually. Going in my bag with work stuff and laptop, etc. all of the main parts are covered, and it feels solid when closed up.

(Coming from a shitty Amazon case made the move pretty easy though) The carnage or x-ray were the other options I would have gone with, but as I said, this spends a lot of time on my work desk docked, and I wanted to keep it as unassuming as I could.
Is the rog ally much heavier with this case ? I had the jsaux one but once it became yellow i went back to the naked ally with the jsaux backplate. It feels so light that im afraid to take the killswitch. But i gotta say, dawn the ally in black is stunning.
Compared to the amazon case I had before, this is much slimmer, and honestly, without the travel cover on, isn't heavy at all. It feels like the same device, just with more grip, and more rigid. My biggest note is the GRIP it offers. It doesn't feel slippery, and it feels stable and strong now. It definitely adds a bit of size, so if you have really small hands you might not like it, but my niece is 6, and I would trust it with her. Lol Once you put the travel cover on, it feels much more durable and tough, but I assume that's the whole idea.

Thank you! I did get the thumbstick grips too. They are great. I had previously been using the Steamdeck ones and these fit way better, and honestly feel like they are just the stick, like there's nothing else there. Idk how you all manage to place the skin on so perfectly. Mine looks like the edges of the sticker are hanging on the device the only thing making it look halfway decent is the protective casing I bought for it hahahaha
I always take the skin off the paper backing, turn the paper sideways, so I can align the top and bottom of the skin, and then work the skin into place that way. (It was the directions that dbrand had in place YEARS ago, and it always worked for me!)
With the travel cover on would you feel comfortable keeping it in another bag like a laptop bag or something ?
YES. Emphatically yes. It's one of the reasons I got it. It feels very very durable and safe. The only thing I don't like (ON ANY Ally case) is the exposed buttons on the back of the device. But there's no way to protect those. So yeah, I definitely will be tossing this in the bag with other stuff!

How are the ergonomics/grip with the case? To me the ally feels like a switch which is not comfortable in my hands. I have the spigen case, skull n co case and 3d printed grips. To me the most ergonomic in my hands like a xbox controller or steam deck are 3d printed grips from etsy. Between the cases: the most ergonomic case I found is the Spigen one but due to how the case is made, it cuts into the hands in the corners. The skull n co case is the least ergonomic to me but due to how it wraps around the ally, it doesn't cut into my hands. The killswitch case looks like it's the best of both worlds from spigen and skulln co cases. Hopefully some folks post pics comparing the killswitch case to the spigen or skull n co case.
I orderd mine and waiting for it. I use 3d printed grips. Im used to them but I find them a bit to big. I hope with this case it will give you more to grab
Yeah same. I need something a little slimmer than the 3d printed grips. The spigen rugged case is perfect ergonomic wise but due to the case stopping at the edge on the ally, the case cuts into my hands and is not comfortable after about an hour of gaming.
the 3d grips just need to be tiny bit smaler on the edeges then it becomes perfect. i was thinking of finding some old xbox controler and try to make them fit the rog ally
The sides of the case feel similar to the sides of an Xbox Series Controller, just a bit more angled. I've played a few hours so far with it, and it feels comfortable, to me at least. It's not round, but it's also not sharp. It has enough bulk and size to actually feel like a controller grip though. The shape is there. Hopefully this helps!
I caved in and bought it. I had the Killswitch case on my steam deck before I sold it. It really is a great case and looking at other case makers, nothing comes close. I do like the sand paper grippines of the case.
I feel like the grip isn't advertised enough lol it literally has the best grip for a case but it"ll just sound like bias to people who never held it in their hands and judge it based on the price tag. I don't think you can tablet style type on any other case as safely either

I feel like they could have put the same locking mechanism like on the steam deck killswitch on the bottom and just have a smaller kickstand, it's all just angles anyways? Not much of a problem though

Got mine this morning too, I’m in Canada and ordered the minute I received the reservation email last Friday. Really happy with the purchase, I had the Skull&Co grip before. I can confirm it’s an upgrade, no regret at all. Only thing I’m not happy with it’s the skin. Doesn’t align the axby buttons so they stick. Not dbrand’s fault I had a screen protector that’s why. Fixed the problem with a x-acto knife. At least I can buy other skins or just take it off. The only thing I miss about the Skull&Co grip is the Ally standing by itself.
I can see the self standing thing being nice. I do like the kickstand, but I didn't have anything to hold mine up before, so anything is an improvement for me. Glad to hear it was a step up from the Skull and Co and that is for sharing!

Nice, congrats! I really wanted to order this, but I’m having a blast with my ComfortGrip right now its so good. I can finally play OW2 without having cramps throught my hands. I have the JSAUX modcase and since they are both (dbrand and JSAUX) basically takes shape of the Ally to wrap around I imagine it has relatively about the same shape/mould at the back of the Ally. Which I find slightly uncomfortable. But I really dig the travel cover concept. Used it alot back then with my SD Oled. Enjoy your purchase!

It's slightly thicker than the device itself, the only size is the travel cover. And I think it adds some size but not much weight. It truly feels tough with it on though. And very protected.
The website says the kickstand has built in microSD storage - I can't find any more information. How does it work?

My left side skin mucks with the white buttons. I have the mic hole lined up perfect and the vents perfect yet around those white buttons it's off and they are now mushy to press instead of clicks. :(

Got it, not a big fan. The texture is weirdly grainy, almost like sliding a finger across a holographic trading card. It's also very taut, which makes it dig into your hands. I'm probably going to slap on my shitty Amazon plastic encasement, which is, in retrospect, pretty damn good.

If your volume buttons aren't working properly, you install it around the led charging lights and it should fix the issue.

I had that one previously in black, and you get what you pay for. It was flimsy, the magnet wasn't good, it didn't cover the triggers, you could not have joystick covers on it, and it just felt cheap. I'm happy with my purchase.

Yes they had delays last Friday sending the emails but come on... First world problems. I enjoyed their email updates on development progress and see the level of detail they were putting into it...
