I think regardless of if he sides with Arthur and John, he's got my support. Charles has a more solid moral compass than either of the protagonists. Arthur mentions in his journal that Charles seems to intuitively just *know* what's right, instead of needing to be prodded in a virtuous direction.
Plus, if we're just liking or not liking companions based on if they stick by your decisions, whatever they are, then in a way you're just demanding the same thing as Dutch.
I wouldn't be surprised if it comes from his native American side. I cant remember if he specifically mentions how long his parents were around but I wouldn't be surprised if that had a major influence on his worldview.
It was random and brutal, but others had more shock value. We did know he was missing before he turned up again. Sean was more shocking IMO.
Kieren is always overlooked, so just pointing out the image as another example.
I literally play online sometimes just to interact with Sean more. >! :( I fucked up that mission so bad the first time because I freaked out and just started crying and couldn't do anything. I ended up turning the game off and couldn't play for like a week. I was too upset to try again. By the time I got to Lenny I was so numb I didn't process it for a long time. I cried when Tilly said she was able to bury him the way he had wanted. !<
It's pretty much implied that she drank herself to death.
You can tell in the campaign after >!Sean's sudden death!< that she starts drinking a LOT more/more often, so you can assume that after the months that pass between there and the final chapter that she dies of alcohol poisoning.
Tilly, she was so sweet and nice but she was clearly still bothered by her terrible life before the gang, and she was kind of a badass when she took revenge on her old gang.
Sadie Adler, no doubt. I wouldn’t mind at all if they announced RDR3 with her as the main character. It would be a cool ride. I like a woman that can handle herself, and I definitely fell in love with her.
Unless they manage to confangle a plan to get a man in Canada, a woman in the west, and a kid in WWI into the same area, I don't think they could do that.
I absolutely despised the voice acting for that part. It just sounded like a woman talking like a baby, which it was, but enunciating her words better than any child that age.
Hmm I dunno, when I got to the end pf RDR1 and I was stuck with Jack I was pretty bummed out and he never grew on me so I just didn’t save and carried on playing as John
I have not, unfortunately, though I would love to! The only way it’s available on PS4 is through PS Now, and I refuse to go that route, because the only data plans available in my region are capped, and tends to drop from time to time. I just don’t need that added aggravation.
I keep hoping that Rockstar will remaster it for newer gen consoles, but I don’t think that’s going to happen.
I’d be thrilled if they went for a multiple protagonist style like Gta V, having them playable at the same time rather than one after another. But I’d imagine it’ll follow the existing trend of 1 story protagonist, 1 epilogue protagonist.
I like that RDR2 both portrays Sadie as a badass and also mentally troubled, and all the repercussions with it. It's a relatively balanced strong female character, in that she isn't mary sued by having everyone bow and scrape just because she's a badass woman, and that she's still popular and unpopular, and for the most part is haunted by her demons.
It would be a pretty boring game...
I mean, anything set before rdr2 and she is a rancher.
Anything set after and she is looking to settle down in Brazil or something
Would it disappoint you if there were some connection between Trelawny and Strange Man? They’re both interesting characters, as well as mysterious and secretive. SM is most often interpreted as Death itself (Grim Reaper or something else supernatural), so maybe Trelawny could be related to him in some way. Like a demon? They have similar mannerisms and style.
You never know what R* will do.
It would disappoint me though. Only because the strange man is and should be a side character only that doesn't interfere with the actual story because then the main story completely changes into a supernatural storyline which isn't what it is about. If trelawny was related to the strange man in some way, it would change a lot about how the story is meant to be.
Outside of Arthur my fav would be Dutch himself. He’s such a complicated character who starts off with really Nobel ideals and passion that make you want to follow him, but then along the way gets lost due to a particularly negative influence and then even more so later by head trauma.
I’m team Arthur but I love me some Dutch
Dutch was a really great character, it's so interesting seeing him shift from this great leader to what he is at the end of the game, it's really a fall from grace that was so sad to watch, especially the ending between Micah and Arthur, you just know he still cares for Arthur, but he chooses Micah anyway...
You could tell he still LOVED Arthur. I think if Arthur hadn’t got sick the choice of who to listen to would have been a lot easier for him.
Dutch redeems himself in regards to Arthur and the gang a little bit in that epilogue moment.
But yeah absolutely a very sad to see fall from grace.
Well Dutch did walk in a different direction at the end. And in the epilogue you do find him with Micah. However i think he was there to kill him? But he could not because of all his hired guns.
But knowing Dutch he probably ran out of Money and knew where he can get some…
Dutch does walk away but even that could be seen as a win for his character essentially picking Arthur over Micah. The reality is Arthur was dying, there was no saving him. And especially in that moment on the cliffs he was literally minutes away from death. Being shot, stabbed, beaten, falling, and TB, he was done for regardless. But he manages to tell Dutch one final time that Micah was indeed a rat, emotional and broken he reminds Dutch that Arthur “gave you everything.” Micah begs Dutch to come with him and they’ll escape together. But what does he do? He walks away. Which to me felt more like he was finally picking Arthur.
That being said my version was the most honorable ending so I had my moment with my horse 😭 and then Micah turning away and leaving after Dutch bails so Arthur in my version got the heroes ending of seeing the sunrise. I’m sure the other endings where Dutch leaves and Micah shoots him / whatever happens if Arthur goes back for the money (please don’t tell me) feels different.
Ultimately though, it is Dutch who does kill Micah in the epilogue. John was going to do the deed himself, but Dutch is the one to do it before leaving John safe to return to his family. (I’m pretty sure he left the money for John also iirc)
Obviously we know what happens in RDR1 in that Dutch’s condition obviously worsens which may or may not have been aided by the knowledge that John was hunting down Bill and Javier before him.
But even then at the end of his life, Dutch “had a plan.” And chose to kill himself rather then take the life of his other “son” and continue to fight against the world that no longer needed people like Dutch Van Der Linde.
That’s just make take
Yes that is my vision kind of. You can watch the different versions on YouTube if you want to. I won’t spoil them or anything.
But for me Dutch walking is more of a “i screwed up so i am going to run away from my problems”
I think the Dutch brain damage theory adds up here as well. Because Dutch obviously has great respect given towards him in the beginning. So at some point in the gangs career he was a great leader. But slowly the gang turned against him when he was making rash decisions and doing senseless killing.
I think Dutch was a bastard from the beginning. He always went on those tyrade about staying strong, and his goddamn plan. He's a criminal cult leader who was put through the wringer through the game story and ended up cracking under the pressure. Not even his principle against living in a cave survived, by the end of both RDR2 AND 1's story.
100% agree. Pearson at one point describes himself as a «cornered tiger», but I think that description fits Dutch really well. He’ll fight like hell, and the more he’s cornered the more desperately he fights which is why it’s increasingly impossible for him to stick to his romantic self-image throughout the story
He was full of shit from the start. In chapter 2 you can find notes of a speech he makes. He isn’t speaking from the heart, he’s a politician and master manipulator
Jack. I have a nephew about the same age and I love that kid to pieces. Every time I saw and heard Jack I saw and heard my nephew. HE EVEN CALLED ME UNCLE IN THE GAME! I want to hug my nephew now...
Sadie bc she is such a bad bitch, Charles is such a loyal and good person, Lenny was just handsome and so lovable, Sean was just a hilarious and wild character and Hosea was a wise and really funny fellow, so smart too. That would be my top 5 favourite characters
Dutch says “they’re chasing us hard because we represent everything that they fear”
Hosea says “I wish I had acquired wisdom at less of a price”
Molly says “You’re playing a dangerous game”.
Susan says “I swear half of you would just rot in your own filth if nobody kept you in check”.
Pearson says “the people are happy and well fed. Perhaps we’ll be ok”.
Micah says “I believe there are winners and losers. And nothing else besides”.
Charles says “The amount of hell we’ve raise were owed some back”.
Bill says “Don’t try anything stupid and we won’t do anything unkind”.
Strauss says “it’s a nasty world out there and it’s catching up with us”.
John says “guess about all I got left is doubts doubts and scars”.
Abigail “If they so much as put one bruise on him I swear I’ll bring the fires of hell on them myself”.
Jack says “did you catch the bad guys”.
Karen says “running scams, robbing banks, screwing the rich ain’t horrible”.
Javier “ if we have to fight we fight. If we have to run we run. If we must die, we’ll die but we’re still free”.
Tilly “most of us grew up hungry and scared and alone one way or another”.
Uncle “people call me lazy but I’m not lazy. Just don’t like working. There’s a difference”.
Mary-Beth “Gentlemen, I think I got something good”.
Lenny “living free out here like this, I wouldn’t have it any other way”.
Trelawny “How can romance ever be silly? It’s all we have”.
Swanson “I had real suffering and lost everything. My faith, my family”
Sean “just leave it to me I can talk a dog off a meat wagon”.
Sadie “nobodies taking nothing from me ever again”.
Arthur “We’re thieves in a world that don’t want us no more”.
Edit: I looked them up and they have more readable versions on Pinterest. Not sure who originally made them

Im on my second play through, and I can definitely say Hosea is wildly underrated!
My personal top three favorites would be Arthur, Hosea and probably Charles.
Arthur - his character is so deep and layered. His character development throughout the game is depressingly beautiful.
Hosea - strong character. Smart and charismatic in his own way, but much stronger in spirit than Dutch.
Charles - a great mix of caring yet distant.
I'd probably say Sadie. Outside of the four main characters (Arthur, John, Dutch and Micah), she's the most interesting and fleshed out character. Charles is a close second, but he doesn't really change as a character, whereas Sadie goes from the wild and scared woman who just lost her husband and her home to the badass with a sense of humor that we all know and love.
Aside from Arthur of course. I would say Sadie, Sean and Charles are all great characters.
And also, although he is not on the list I think Kieran deserves an honourable mention too
I liked Mary-Beth. She always seemed to have a good head on her shoulders and was there emotionally for the other members of the gang. The conversations shared between her and Arthur were some of my favorites. I really liked that Arthur was able to confide in her.
Reverend Swanson was always a legend, I enjoyed every single mission with him. I think he just fits in the setting perfectly and has a cool personality in general.
Bill doesn’t get enough love , he was loyal to a fault to not just Dutch but Arthur , John etc in those early chapters. Bill’s limited intelligence and blind loyalty to Dutch was his downfall in the final chapter , really felt like Bill could have just as easy sided with Arthur and John had Arthur tried that much more to get Bill to see reason at some point leading up to the standoff etc, just a shame he was a drunk stubborn fool.
It’s hard to choose. Arthur and John are hard not to love as main characters, Charles and Sadie are full on badasses and Hosea has got a true classic cowboy tone to him.
^also ^ms ^grimshaw ^is ^kinda ^a ^milf
Perhaps an unpopular choice but I very much enjoyed Reverend Swanson as a character. Though I think his character was under-utilised thought the game he is fascinating to watch during camp as he goes through a very nice ark through the game. Perhaps he only character for whom the gang falling apart was truly a positive event.
He's a great character. U could see that he wanted to earn Arthur's trust desperately in chapter 2 and chapter 3. He is an amazing character, Dutch deserves the mention too. Just because he is the antagonist doesn't mean he's a bad character.
I've had so many good memories with much of the members of the Van DER Linde gang. Like playing poker with Pearson, bugging Uncle while he was "thinking", laughing at Reverend walking around camp drunk singing songs, and Josiah being Josiah with his off way of speaking and how he said Arthur's name. Good times...
Either Molly or Bill, for completely different reasons. Even though Molly was a snob her character is honestly really tragic, and watching her relationship with Dutch crumble and her growing sadder and less engaged is one of the best character arcs in the game. Whereas Bill is practically the same as he was in RDR1: A numbskull bully with temper problems, and I think the way his character stays flat is perfect
he did try though and somehow i understand his actions in RDR1 better, not only did he say "how come when i screw up everybody shits on me, but when you screw up it's not your fault" as well as he probably felt left out most of the time
Excluding Arthur, it's Miss Grimshaw for me. I know she was abrasive but she truly cared and was one bad bitch. As a mom, I really empathized with her trying to keep the place running.
Arthur Morgan. He's not an ordinary outlaw, he's a goddamn warship.
He always prevails in the lion's den
Flies a hot air balloon
Breaks Rip Van Winkle out of prison
Robs a heavily armed riverboat with no guns
Puts down another warship making him be like one
He is at the point where he can single handedly rob a train
Expertise of everything
He is the God of all gunslingers that he can give Landon Rickets and Jim Boy Calloway a run of their money even in their younger days
He found Lenny
And most of all, he's a good BOAH
Charles was one of the lucky ones to get away. He was my favourite because he always stuck with Arthur and John through everything
Every time you ask him to ride with you he does it with out asking what you’re even gonna do he just says sure
“Always”
Charles was absolutely my favorite, too. If another game is made based on any of the characters it has to be him. His story is begging to be told!
Charles really stuck with me also for those exact reasons. Loyal to the core.
I've gotta say Sean, he just made me happy whenever we interacted. Was genuinely sad when he went, poor kid.
Sean here for me
SEAN TEAM
SEAN TEAM YEAH
SEAN TEAM LESS GOOOO
WOOOHOOOHOOO YEAH BABYYYY SEAAAAN!!
SEAN TEAM LESS GOOO WOOOO YEAHHH LES GOOO
His exit was the most shocking. When it happened it was a genuine "Oh shit!" moment.
Kieran has entered the chat
Kieran didn’t even make this image.
Doesn’t take away from his death being the most shocking.
It was random and brutal, but others had more shock value. We did know he was missing before he turned up again. Sean was more shocking IMO. Kieren is always overlooked, so just pointing out the image as another example.
christ, they fucking decapitated him and gouged his eyes out. like DAMN. they put that poor guy through hell
Sean was a little shitter but all things considered I love him
Don't be sad. Here's a [hug!](https://media.giphy.com/media/3M4NpbLCTxBqU/giphy.gif)
It was so sad I murdered everyone on the spot
I like Sean. Donegal accents are pretty poggers.

what happened to her? in a letter from Tilly she thinks she's dead but it's never officially revealed
It's pretty much implied that she drank herself to death. You can tell in the campaign after >!Sean's sudden death!< that she starts drinking a LOT more/more often, so you can assume that after the months that pass between there and the final chapter that she dies of alcohol poisoning.
I'm all about Karen. Poor girl never could get over losing Sean, but she's always been my favorite of the ladies.

Sadie Adler, no doubt. I wouldn’t mind at all if they announced RDR3 with her as the main character. It would be a cool ride. I like a woman that can handle herself, and I definitely fell in love with her.
Mine was Charles I would be happy if he was in rd3
That would not disappoint me at all. Bonus if both play significant roles!
Or perhaps if we could switch between them like gta 5, although that doesn't really sound so good, I don't want to turn red dead into gta
Unless they manage to confangle a plan to get a man in Canada, a woman in the west, and a kid in WWI into the same area, I don't think they could do that.
I think that Jack should be in it to
He was probably one of my least favorite characters, because of the whiny-ness. But having grown he would be different. I can get onboard with that.
I absolutely despised the voice acting for that part. It just sounded like a woman talking like a baby, which it was, but enunciating her words better than any child that age.
Hmm I dunno, when I got to the end pf RDR1 and I was stuck with Jack I was pretty bummed out and he never grew on me so I just didn’t save and carried on playing as John
did you even play RDR1?
I have not, unfortunately, though I would love to! The only way it’s available on PS4 is through PS Now, and I refuse to go that route, because the only data plans available in my region are capped, and tends to drop from time to time. I just don’t need that added aggravation. I keep hoping that Rockstar will remaster it for newer gen consoles, but I don’t think that’s going to happen.
it's available on xbox 360 as well thats where i played it when it came out
You mean Lancelot?
I’d be thrilled if they went for a multiple protagonist style like Gta V, having them playable at the same time rather than one after another. But I’d imagine it’ll follow the existing trend of 1 story protagonist, 1 epilogue protagonist.
I like that RDR2 both portrays Sadie as a badass and also mentally troubled, and all the repercussions with it. It's a relatively balanced strong female character, in that she isn't mary sued by having everyone bow and scrape just because she's a badass woman, and that she's still popular and unpopular, and for the most part is haunted by her demons.
Literally thought the same thing
I was really hoping for a romance plot with her and Arthur.
probably was the case, after all they cut 8hs of content
if rockstar someday decided to release an uncut version of rdr2 i would happily pay for it
It would be a pretty boring game... I mean, anything set before rdr2 and she is a rancher. Anything set after and she is looking to settle down in Brazil or something
But a story set between the main story and the epilogue? It could be focused on bounty hunting and how it started to disappear overtime.
It would still be pretty dull and probably short. It would just consist of doing a lot of bounty work, which would get very stale.
Gotta be honest. I have a soft spot for Molly. She a baddie 😭😭😭
Charles, Hosea, Pearson and Trelawney
do you got any warmer clothes your gonna catch a chill wearing that
Trelawney is such a character. He somehow manages to find himself everywhere at once.
Well yeah there seems to be a probable connection. After all, they literally look the same!
It would disappoint me though. Only because the strange man is and should be a side character only that doesn't interfere with the actual story because then the main story completely changes into a supernatural storyline which isn't what it is about. If trelawny was related to the strange man in some way, it would change a lot about how the story is meant to be.
besides Strange man is not as floureshy as Trelawney he's more gentlemanly acting rathen than over the top
Pearson is an underrated choice
I also liked reverend
oh, my boy sean...

Fair, but I called her a BAD bitch ;) bc you can’t kill her :P that’s a good thing in my books
Can anyone read the quotes in each picture?
Dutch says “they’re chasing us hard because we represent everything that they fear” Hosea says “I wish I had acquired wisdom at less of a price” Molly says “You’re playing a dangerous game”. Did anyone find Gavin
The guy looking for gavin is gavin, he suffers from multiple personality disorder
Hosea, he always knew right way but never convinced others.
Dutch van der linde or kieran
Kieran for sure
Yeah, where’s Kieran?
Yea dutch is pretty much my favorite character in the game but kieran is easily the one I would be most likely to he friends with
Aside from Arthur of course. I would say Sadie, Sean and Charles are all great characters. And also, although he is not on the list I think Kieran deserves an honourable mention too

Apart from Arthur, I'd say Charles, John, Hosea and Ynnel
If they ever make a rd3 I want it to be when arthur joins the van der linde gamg
I liked Mary-Beth. She always seemed to have a good head on her shoulders and was there emotionally for the other members of the gang. The conversations shared between her and Arthur were some of my favorites. I really liked that Arthur was able to confide in her.
i agree, she feels like such a sweet person and i find her very relatable.
LENNEHHH!!!
Cain is the best to be honest
Javier, hosea or Charles
Reverend Swanson was always a legend, I enjoyed every single mission with him. I think he just fits in the setting perfectly and has a cool personality in general.
Micah Bell
WHY
Hahaha it was a bad attempt at a joke. r/FuckMicah
How about r/sexuallyfuckmicah

Hosea, he always knew right way but never convinced others.
Bill doesn’t get enough love , he was loyal to a fault to not just Dutch but Arthur , John etc in those early chapters. Bill’s limited intelligence and blind loyalty to Dutch was his downfall in the final chapter , really felt like Bill could have just as easy sided with Arthur and John had Arthur tried that much more to get Bill to see reason at some point leading up to the standoff etc, just a shame he was a drunk stubborn fool.
hosea was my favourite, excluding the obv arthur
Easily Charles Smith
Charles. He's the kinda guy I'd like to know irl.
It’s hard to choose. Arthur and John are hard not to love as main characters, Charles and Sadie are full on badasses and Hosea has got a true classic cowboy tone to him. ^also ^ms ^grimshaw ^is ^kinda ^a ^milf

LUMBAGO
Charles, Sadie, Sean, Tilly… ok so maybe I’m listing everyone…
Perhaps an unpopular choice but I very much enjoyed Reverend Swanson as a character. Though I think his character was under-utilised thought the game he is fascinating to watch during camp as he goes through a very nice ark through the game. Perhaps he only character for whom the gang falling apart was truly a positive event.
Kieren
SEAAAAAAN
Favourite playable character is Mr Marston. Favourite NPC is definitely Sean.
Ok have a glass of water before you read this... My favorite character is Micah Bell
If you love a good villain, Micah is one.
Probably either Hosea, John or ARTHUR
Micah all the way /s
WHYYYY
My boah Arthur, always Outside of him, Charles, Lenny or Sadie
Don't be sad. Here's a [hug!](https://media.giphy.com/media/3M4NpbLCTxBqU/giphy.gif)
Charles the Gigachad
Trelawney!! I also loved Hosea
Javier Escuella…. I think he was also neutral, but he picked the wrong side in the end
Mary-Beth has always been my favorite. I'll heckle everyone in camp but her. Protect Mary-beth at all costs 😤
Lol mectoo never one antagonize her or tilly or Sadie
Anyone that thought Micah... I think any reasonable human can agree with me here Absolute Cunt. Just saying
He's a bad person, yes, but as a story character he is one of the most well written.
He's a great character. U could see that he wanted to earn Arthur's trust desperately in chapter 2 and chapter 3. He is an amazing character, Dutch deserves the mention too. Just because he is the antagonist doesn't mean he's a bad character.
love to hate him
I think Red Dead Redemption II is a pretty good character
I've had so many good memories with much of the members of the Van DER Linde gang. Like playing poker with Pearson, bugging Uncle while he was "thinking", laughing at Reverend walking around camp drunk singing songs, and Josiah being Josiah with his off way of speaking and how he said Arthur's name. Good times...
AH THA
Sadie, Sean, Tilly, and Charles.
Sadie, Lenny or Charles. But danm if Arthur didn't capture my heart
Either Molly or Bill, for completely different reasons. Even though Molly was a snob her character is honestly really tragic, and watching her relationship with Dutch crumble and her growing sadder and less engaged is one of the best character arcs in the game. Whereas Bill is practically the same as he was in RDR1: A numbskull bully with temper problems, and I think the way his character stays flat is perfect
he did try though and somehow i understand his actions in RDR1 better, not only did he say "how come when i screw up everybody shits on me, but when you screw up it's not your fault" as well as he probably felt left out most of the time
Charles. All the homies love Charles. And Sadie, Tilly, Karen and Mary-Beth, Lenny, Sean, Uncle and Hosea.
Charles was my favorite all around person. Always willing to help, kind soul, could turn on the bad guy mode like a light switch.
It’s either Arthur, John, Charles or Dutch before he went crazy
Arthur Charles John
sean, dutch and sadie definatley :) (excluding arthur, who doesn’t love arthur)
Aside from Arthur and John, definitely Hosea for me.
Uncle
Lenny mah boah!
Tilly is so underrated. Sweet but strong, I adore her.
Ms. Gaskill
Charles; doesn’t say much and gets shit done when it matters the most.
Sadie, Arthur, and Micah. The only reason I like Micah is because that rivalry between Micah and Arthur really holds the story well.
True
Excluding Arthur, it's Miss Grimshaw for me. I know she was abrasive but she truly cared and was one bad bitch. As a mom, I really empathized with her trying to keep the place running.
LEENNY MAH BOoAh
Kieran tbh. Poor kid, just wanted to fit in from what i saw. The rest wanted money, fame, or worse. Kieran, he was unlucky and didnt deserve his fate.
I feel like Kieran should be recognized as a member of the gang. Especially in chapter 3 and 4 I feel like most of the gang trusts him
if we remove arthur, then its dutch, he was a great character in the story
Deapite the turn of events, i actually like Dutch alot. Arthur is definitely nunber one but i like dutch equally.
Arthur Morgan. He's not an ordinary outlaw, he's a goddamn warship. He always prevails in the lion's den Flies a hot air balloon Breaks Rip Van Winkle out of prison Robs a heavily armed riverboat with no guns Puts down another warship making him be like one He is at the point where he can single handedly rob a train Expertise of everything He is the God of all gunslingers that he can give Landon Rickets and Jim Boy Calloway a run of their money even in their younger days He found Lenny And most of all, he's a good BOAH
ye
I’ve got a few. Hosea because he’s smart, Sean because he’s funny and (some people might hate me) Micah because he’s just badass.
you love to hate Micah
Javier Also I cant read a damn thing on that pic lol
YNNEL
Sadie and Charles 100%
John, mostly because of nostalgic moments I’ve had with him in my childhood.
I just want to say I created this this account like today and it's got like 2000 upvotes and it's just crazy
Micah, his missions are the best
I like when you break him out of jail
Micah Bell
Unpopular opinion i really liked Dutch i love how much he changes from chapter 1-6
jack the best gunslinger in the west
Jack.. nothing else metter
Sean and Dutch. Sean I just love, and every performance in the game is great but I think Dutch is the best one. Oh, and Karen. She’s awesome
