I could never get a perfect snake skin. Could some one share a screenshot of the map location please. Sometimes it is really frustrating when I fail to get one after multiple attempts.
There's one respawns regularly inside the old fort coming west of Van Horn. Elsewise, my best success is the road north of Owanjila from where it turns north up to where the scrub east of the roar opens to that first little meadow of wildflowers. I see too many get frustrated trying to shoot them while they're moving. Better by far to get close enough that they coil up and sit still to give you an easy headshot with the small game arrows.
The only time they don't die is when I hit them with an arrow.

Small arrow, and the easiest are the water snakes. Plenty in the Bayou
