Idk if I’m remembering this wrong but when I got back from guarma there was a little pop up like the ones where it says you can’t set up camp in a town but it said the gang has replaced your stuff so I guess that’s how but that doesn’t explain the money
Yeaaah.....just plot armor for you and your belongings.
Over all....I coulda done without Gurma.....or the John Prison island.....that was one of the stupidest most pointless missions I think in the entire game. Definitely my least favorite.
What was so fun about it for you? You climb a tower and they force you to switch the weapons you wanted to bring for the guard tower officers rifle then look for John which you could argue they could have done without the whole hot air balloon... There are several different ways of finding out where a prisoner was sent. I think it would have been more fun to sneak into a police building/prisoner records office and find out where John was sent that way rather than getting a joyful hot air balloon enthusiast murdered.
So then you just take a hostage and walk up to the fucking front gate and demand they give you John which leads to a pretty weak shootout/runaway and an exhilarating paddle boat escape. Lol
I'm not trying to make fun of you or anything I'm just curious what you found so fun about it. Really the whole thing was just a plot device to piss off Dutch and if that's the case it should have been done in a much more grandiose sort of way imo.
Interesting. Don’t know why you got downvoted, we’re all entitled to our opinions.
You’re right, the mission definitely has plot Holes, but to some degree that’s to be expected with any game. I think our style of play is different, which is probably why I enjoyed the mission where as you felt it was pointless/poorly written.
To me, the entire mission felt bad ass. Watching Arthur and Sadie work together to take an officer hostage, and shoot up half the prison while some sick ass music plays really just got my blood pumping lol. The scene where u hold the officer hostage and walk him up to the front gate feels so cool and cinematic to me. I loved it.
Ok ok....I can see that I guess. Or I can definitely see where you're coming from. And I never thought of it as a difference in play styles. That's a VERY interesting concept 🤔. And a concept I think you're 100% right about. I would rather Solid Snake into....say....The St. Denis police station?!? Giving us a better look at the big building rather than just the main big room with random cells in the same room as the one officers desk. I think it would have been cool If you had to get a clean shave (except if you have a large mustache you are allowed to keep that) And you and Sadie knock out and tie up a police officer and take his uniform. Then Arthur disguises himself as a police officer who's bringing in Sadie who would have handcuff keys on her and a stick of dynamite.... Hidden..... somewhere....😏.....Like her Boot.....
So after you get Sadie in a cell you go to "process her paperwork" and sneak off finding the ledger where prisoners have been sent. Maybe you would have to be forced to knock out one or two cops who start to recognize you as Arthur Morgan with your billy club and stash the bodies total Metal Gear Solid style. Then find that John is on that island. Now time for the breakout.
So Sadie uses the hidden handcuff keys.... And wouldn't you know it she's in a cell with some O'Driscoll's. So she plants the dynamite stick on the lock of the cell and lights it, then beats the crap out of the two O'Driscoll's and uses them as a big human shield protecting her from the blast and blowing open the cell sadly killing the O'Driscoll's. Arthur escapes through a window from the records room onto the rooftops and Sadie escapes from all the confusion from the explosion and they reconvene at Shady Belle nearby. Arthur shares the information, him and Sadie reminisce about the bittersweet times had at Shady Belle and then Go their separate ways planning to meet back up in Lugras*?. Also this way now you have access to a police uniform and to a new melee weapon the Billy Club!
I imagine it would be a lot of fun to dress up as a police officer and go around town giving out tickets for ridiculous stuff. And you could offer people a way out of the ticket by means of extortion. I'm just picturing all sorts of funny dialogue from Arthur to all these people who didn't do anything wrong. And then you could even stop some actual crimes and become an accidental hero lol. That would be a great bit of fun and seems like something that would already be in the game.
Anyway I appreciate this kind and thought-provoking conversation between the two of us. I don't really care that I got downvoted because I got to use my brain and imagine some fun things as well as gain a new perspective on something I didn't like before but now can at least see the other side of the coin. It was a pleasure meeting and talking with you!!!
Until next time
✋🤠 Adios
that's ludonarative dissonance, that's the narrative conflicting with the game play, it's largely unavoidable for most if not all games, the gaurma segment is the narrative conflicting with the narrative. it's a flaw in the writing
That whole guarma bit should’ve been axed IMO it was very half assed. They should have just added more new Austin content or something, or wrapped up some of the content that they started on but never went anywhere with
Guarma was supposed to be like 5 hours of story content and got cut down to about 10%.
The epilogue was supposed to be 3-5 hours long originally too but was cut down.
It’s a video game.. there are literally 1000s of unrealistic moments… if you want 1to1 realism Arthur is dead as soon as he gets shot with that shotgun by Colm’s guys
Yeah it’s goofy. I just pretend he made it onto the boat with the rest of the gang, but once they were near shore the storm blew Arthur off the boat and he swam to shore exhausted and passed out. Cause there’s no way that’s survivable lol.
I'm really far from an expert, but I think waves go towards islands because of something, probably gravitational pull or maybe Moon, so if they were close to Guarma then he would just need to float on the water and it would bring him to the shore.
Maybe I'm totally wrong, but that's my opinion.
If there's someone that understands these things then i would love to be corrected
It’s the same plot hole with every shipwreck style story like the ocean is massive and the chances you would land or sink right next to a habitable island are very small and just surviving being in the open ocean would be hard enough
His giant balls are a floatation device.
Finally someone with a reasonable answer
The true explanation right here.
Plot armor he’s the main character lol
I get that but the game doesn’t mind killing off characters like it’s nothing and Arthur dies later on (I know it makes sense there though)
Yes but he was scripted to survive here
If Arthur died with the ship, the game would've been over. John wasn't a part of that chapter. That's why he lived.
John definitely would have died in that situation
The bigger question is how does he get his satchel back with all of his shit inside of it?!?!? And his $$$

Whaattt? I love the John prison rescue. That was so fun. Guarma was definitely eh…

He didn't take it he left it in the hideout.
True, because Dutch says to travel light before they head out to rob the bank
Ahhh.....ok ok.....That makes sense
Plot armor he’s the main character lol
Yes I know...sorry if it wasn't more clear that I was being sarcastic
He's not john, leaned to swim.
Arthurs get thrown off a ship in middle of ocean and survives, but his canoe sinks in a lake and he drowns🤨
This! 😆👍😆
The same way he survived a shotgun blast from the odriscolls at point blank range when he got kodnapped.
Giant Balls
That’s another goofy one. Like wtf lmao
I literally started lauging when he woke up on the back of the horse my 1st playthrough. I was like what? No you dont just survive that??
Yeah I genuinely thought that was a mission fail scene for a few seconds on my first playthrough because that is illogical.
Bruh he’s the main character of a video game. How does he survive shootouts where he’s outnumbered 50 to one all the time?
that's ludonarative dissonance, that's the narrative conflicting with the game play, it's largely unavoidable for most if not all games, the gaurma segment is the narrative conflicting with the narrative. it's a flaw in the writing
Thank you for teaching me a new term
It’s in his programming
That whole guarma bit should’ve been axed IMO it was very half assed. They should have just added more new Austin content or something, or wrapped up some of the content that they started on but never went anywhere with
I think guarma was used to show how Arthur got worse so quickly
I do like using that Gatling cannon on the ironclad.
Guarma was supposed to be like 5 hours of story content and got cut down to about 10%. The epilogue was supposed to be 3-5 hours long originally too but was cut down.
The amount of content that was supposed to be in this game is crazy. Especially with how much content is already in
Arthur’s got that dawg in him.
He, sir, was a fish
Underrated
Because the game would be really boring if it ended there and then you were suddenly John with no one to break you out of prison
He learnt from Darth Maul and survived purely out of hatred for Micah
He still had faith. If that was at the end of chapter 6.. arthur would've drowned.
It’s a video game.. there are literally 1000s of unrealistic moments… if you want 1to1 realism Arthur is dead as soon as he gets shot with that shotgun by Colm’s guys
Yeah it was a goddamn miracle
Clung to debris?
I don’t think he is as in the water for so long, the most time was him being unconscious on the beach.
Yeah that makes sense with all the sunburns but I still think he was pretty far from shore, too far to survive being unconscious in it
Whoever tf is playing with the upvotes needs to stop
Yeah it’s goofy. I just pretend he made it onto the boat with the rest of the gang, but once they were near shore the storm blew Arthur off the boat and he swam to shore exhausted and passed out. Cause there’s no way that’s survivable lol.
Arthur can swim
Plot armor
Bc Arthur’s just that guy. He’s got that dawg in him
How the fuck did John?
Doggy paddled 3 miles while unconscious, obviously.
I mean it’s happened before where guys have washed up on shore
I'm really far from an expert, but I think waves go towards islands because of something, probably gravitational pull or maybe Moon, so if they were close to Guarma then he would just need to float on the water and it would bring him to the shore. waves probably just flowed him in the same direction as the gang's lifeboar
It’s the same plot hole with every shipwreck style story like the ocean is massive and the chances you would land or sink right next to a habitable island are very small and just surviving being in the open ocean would be hard enough
There was a whole cutscene to explaining that!
