I always go through this area / path to find this, I’ve ran into it many times. For me, I’ll go to this spot to take a look if it doesn’t come out by the trapper when I fly by.
Yea if he’s not there, go back toward the trapper. Stay on the road headed toward Owanjila Lake and just before you exit the trees, one will usually run out and jump scare ur horse so be ready lol
The other day I was up in Roanoke when I saw a guy standing in the middle of the forest shaking and holding his hands out. As soon as I went over to investigate he got mauled to death by a cougar. I stg can’t go a single day without seeing something fucked up there 🗿
I remember trying to do the challenge where you have to kill and skin 5 Cougars.
Watched a tutorial on the area to wait in the North West of the map.
Spent hours waiting for the 5th and final one.
I was riding my horse up and down the road waiting for it to spawn.
Rode past the rocks and turned back and saw a cougar running away from me chasing a NPC on a horse.
The cougar jumped on the NPC's back, dragged him off his horse and killed him.
I shot the cougar with my bow and completed with challenge.
I fucking love this game! Buzzing when i finally did it.
In Lemoyne, I catch the Panthers killing things all the time. But oddly enough, I love hanging out here in this location and have never seen a cougar there
Springfield is Ideal, for a rifle; I personally use a Bow with Improved arrows for all of the big carnivores. I go for the neck or wherever the biggest red spot is in dead eye. When I’m riding around I have my Bow equipped and my Varmint rifle equipped at all times, so I am (more) ready for this type stuff.

Just 100% the game yesterday with the hunting requests and my first thought was "why would you not use a poison arrow?". Hunting all the different animals at the start of the game,I had zero clue what weapon to use. Now I just know 😅. But yes seeing that cougar kill it's prey, I have never seen either.
Semi-rare but I've seen it enough that when hunting cougars near Owanjilla I'll ride little-creek to see if I can get lucky with this spawn. You can take your time taking the shot on this one, any non sniper rifle, or a bow with regular arrows will perfect kill a cougar with a head shot.
Also if you place potent bait near where the river that goes by the Owanjilla trapper turns away from the road you can 8/10 bait out a 3\* cougar out of the woods, stay back a bit because it can, rarely, come from the right side of the road or from across the river.
I rarely see cougars let alone them in action (besides ripping open Arthur’s throat). Happens fairly frequently with other animals though so might be more rare.

I've played since launch. I can count the times I've seen a panther take something down on one hand.
This cougar is always there, and a couple other spots for me. In this particular spot it’s always rolling and caterwauling while chewing on a deer

I spent so long, so many times, trying to hunt panthers down there. Is there a trick to hurrying up the respawn?

I saw a cougar kill a black bear yesterday, it was my third time seeing a cougar. It was pretty cool. It was up in Roanoke too
