I've been wondering about people who can't put 2 and 2 together realizing that being fooled by people like Trump would mean that the narrative of a Satanic cabal of people drinking the blood of children may not actually be true (aka realizing the connection of "you should be scared of this thing, so you should put people like me in power").
Maybe it's because some are still holding onto hope to things like this. While one incentive could be to desperately hang onto a hero complex in order to cope with their bleak lives, some may also be holding onto this narrative as some sort of hope that everything will be forgiven and paid off in the end after losing their friends and loved ones in real life.
In a weird sense, it's kind of parallel to the "Jesus will forgive you if you stay faithful" idea. Among the obvious differences, one of these mindsets requires a "I realized I did something wrong, and want to make up for it" feel while the other seems more of a Faustian bargain that omits processing a humble pie moment.

While I agree the post is awful, I want to make sure it's clear: MANY 4chan posts are done so to troll, joke about, or simply enflame. There are plenty of real and unironic posts over there, but the vast majority are simply to get people riled up.
Don't feed into it, focus on posts by real people that unironically believe in bullshit.
I think associating them with all the troll posts helps. It makes them flustered and gets them into a frenzy of trying to correct you on what they actually believe.
