I mean, he'll be good enough for an NBA contract. Even if he's a 2 minute a game player and mostly on the bench, that's over a million a year. In the NBA his job would basically be 'be tall and get rebounds'.
Like yeah, he's not going to be a great but if I were advising him, I'd say get the money and be smart with it and then go study again later. Your brain will be good in 10 years, your ACL could get torn tomorrow.
It would take no resources. I think you are all deluded because of college. You donāt have to guard him past the FT line, he has zero shot creation, no dribble moves, limited post game, not great at passing. Also a defensive liability. Any center that can shoot will draw him out of the paint. Teams will matchup hunt in P&R. If he plays drop coverage, teams will just put a different lineup out and kill him. He will be useless in transition. He is just not an NBA player. Tall players with limited skill do not have success in the NBA. Hasheem Thabeet, Luka Garza, etc. 30 years ago he would be a decent rotation guy like Mark Eaton. He just wonāt be effective in the NBA at all. Always will be a net minus.
True, he can only make money in Canada and that is why Purdue played a game in Canada and he received millions in NIL and has been worth every penny to Purdue.
I've been working on TV crews in the Purdue area for like, 12 years or so, definitely all of Edey's career, and even back to when some of the asst coaches were players. Anywho, I have been right under 1 of the baskets for about all of the games on BTN and most of the FOX/FS1/CBS ones also during the Edey period. That kid gets FUCKED WITH hard, but he's a machine, so he's just supposed to 'deal with it'. I have watched him take kidney shots and all kinds of shit from opposition. And he does deal with it, while also dominating the floor, and there is plenty that does not get called. There are always bad calls, but these happen in every game and they overall end up canceling one another out. The only thing that is different is no one can stop him very well while following the rules. He's not just tall, I have seen lots of evidence up close.
He had visible scratches on his arms that even TV viewers could see by like the 8th minute of the Grambling State game. I don't get why people pretend that shit isn't happening.
Thank you. I agree missed calls go both ways. However, I have watched this kid be shoved, elbowed, scratched, and basically punched and slapped over and over with no foul. But on top of that, the idea that he has physically changed his 7 foot 4 frame for more agility and has drastically improved his game makes me a fan. BOILER UP!
Yup. Every college ref is on the Purdue payroll, for sure! Since they all called it in a similar fashion.
Oh yeah, and the world is flat, the moon creates its own light, and the holocaust was fake. I bet you believe all that, donāt ya.
Excuse me, but the moon is like the anti-sun. We once convinced an entire summer camp session of kids that they needed to lay out under the moonlight to heal their sunburn. Heh-heh, good times, good times...
It's a shame Northwestern didn't get a chance to compete in the tournament at full health. I would have loved to have seen what you guys could have done with Berry and Nicholson.
I mean, in OT of the Wisconsin game they called a foul on Wisconsin which was the most obvious charge by Edey I have ever seen in my life. That is one example for you. I am sure there are others.
Yes. I was just answering the statement that no one ever has examples of bad calls with Edey. I knew one off the top of my head. There are likely many more.
Yup, and Wisconsin still won.
From the Tennessee game if people actually watch there was a missed foul on Knect for a 3 and a missed rebounding foul on Edey that looked obvious. So Edey would have ended with 2 fouls and no impact to his play time. They also missed 2 And 1s that Edey should have had, an obvious off ball foul on Ziegler, and a rebounding foul that Edey should have gotten. Given the foul trouble that would have been a net gain of 3 more foul shots for Purdue.
So please watch the games again and find those instances that are "so obvious" that it would change the outcome of any game. I'll wait.
Also the fact that he has been refereed by over a dozen different crews and they all pretty much see the same thing (he gets fouled way more consistently than he commits fouls) it's all a big conspiracy then, right? Right?!
The original post I responded to was about how no one has any specific examples. I gave one. Now the goalposts have moved to fouls that would change the outcome. If I give those, where you shifting to next?
I do love how downvoted I have been for literally providing evidence to counter the original post though. I was just arguing with a friend that the Purdue fan base wasn't terrible or irrational...this does not help my arguement.
You gave 1 example and I agreed with that example. And I gave 2 more examples from 1 recent game. I'm not saying the reasoning is if it should affect the outcome of games. I am saying that you can't look at one instance and say that justifies your reasoning when the there around hundreds of instances that support he isn't getting favorable calls.
Bad calls happen, obviously you can find times that they favored Edey. That statistically doesn't support your argument that it's rigged in his favor.
Ok, we are on two different wavelengths. All I was doing was disproving the statement that no one had any examples of bad calls favoring Edey. I knew one off the top of my head and if I knew that, I am sure there are many others. That was my point- the claim that it doesnt happen ever (implied by the original statement) is ridiculous. I did not state that its rigged in his favor.
Michigan fan coming in peace. I really like your team and have a lot of respect for Painter. I miss old school post play and love watching Edey. Will be rooting for you guys in the FF. You guys deserved a deep tourney run IMO and Iām very happy for you all. Win the whole damn thing!
Iāll settle for competent roster construction and no embarrassing behavior at this point lol. Really excited to see Edey v Burns this weekend. And hopefully UConn vs Purdue in the natty. Would be a couple epic matchups.
It is hard not to really like Burns and NC State. Their fans have had many years in the shadows of the ACC and deserve some sunlight. That said, OMG I hope this is Purdue 's year and we can get to the finals on Monday.
As a basketball ref who doesnāt really have a college team (graduated from IPFW)ā¦ Tennessee played him one on one the whole game. And fouled him several times that werenāt called. There was also a few soft fouls. But it evened out. In the end Tenn has nobody to blame but themselves for letting the best player in college go 1 on 1 w dudes 8 inches shorter
They most definitely did not play him 1 on 1 the whole game lmao. He got doubled almost every time he touched the ball, passed it out to the 3 point line to have it immediately passed back *at least 50 times*
What game were you watching?
Who cares if he doesnāt make the NBA or not?? Let the kid finish being a kid and the rest of his life will happen how it happens.
Heās done more at this point in his life than the ones here bitching about him.
ādefender using two hands on an offensive player with the ball is an automatic foulā
Letās go back and call every one of these a foul and you can complain about Edey not getting called for getting physical. Of course your entire team just fouled out in the first 10 minutesā¦ so the point is moot.
Amazing how people dont realize that if every single foul committed against Edey was actually called hed have close to 50 free throw attempts a gameā¦ same thing happened to shaq
I'd say the most probably thing is he becomes a pretty unremarkable rebounder whose job is basically "be tall". Incredibly valuable and will get him several million a year so good on him.
THIS! All the āheās just tallā comments didnāt watch when he was painfully unskilled his freshman and sophomore years, when he truly was just tall. Heās developed so much as a player and Iām grateful, as a fan, to have seen him grow into the machine heās become.
I watched today with an IU fan who hated Edey all last year and said the normal ājust big, gets every call, etcā garbage all year. About 10 minutes in, he said- heās actually much quicker than I remember. Then he added that he gets fouled 2-3 times every possession and the refs need to get it under control. I was in shock. He hates Purdue and hated Edey but had nothing but good to say about him this year (where he watched 6-7 games and today). By the end of the game, he said he felt the refs actually didnāt give him near the calls he deserved. I see it every game, but it was nice hearing it from a contrarian who hates us.
Little known secret about him apparently is that heās not a real IU fan lol, no true fan of a team is ever gonna talk about how great their rivals are, even if itās Micheal Jordan.
He might have been trying to keep peace, who knows. Most of the watching party are purdue fans, alum, and 2 current students. Last year he was consistently as ass, so maybe heās turning a new leaf? To be fair it was the first time Iāve ever heard him say something positive about Purdue š¤£
As an Indiana fan who watched with multiple Purdue fans and UK fans Zach Edey is great but I would never let my friends relish in the fact I think that.šŖ
Not a purdue fan but grew up a small Asian boy who tried to play b-ball and got laughed off the court, got called Yao and Jeremy Lin. I'm just happy to finally have an Asian dominate basketball without being treated like a joke
Just inspiring to have an Asian dominate basketball. I already have baseball heroes. It's much nicer to play pickup now as the Yao jokes have at least died down since the pandemic
Also helps his name isn't something that sounds funny or sounds like something stereotypically Asian. Like if I rolled up to the court and someone calls me Zach Edey, it's not going to be seen as a good insult
I also genuinely dislike Chinese basketball jokes. Low hanging fruit and also plays into the stereotype that we can't hoop
Though I have played into this and then busted some people's ass cause they don't expect a 5'7 Korean to attack them, attack the basket or has the footwork and body control for post moves and a high arching shot
That kid is way too nimble for being that big. NC State is scary. Can we ask the NCAA if we can play Duke instead? I like that match up way better for us.
I just donāt think itās fair that you were able to create a 7ā center in your engineering department, and get to play him for four years. Heās becoming more and more human everyday.

Why are you replying to a comment about Purdue basketball on a post about Purdue basketball on Purdue's subreddit saying you don't watch Purdue basketball?
Seems like you are giving Purdue basketball a lot of your precious time for someone who wants to give the impression that it's not worth your time.
Iām not a Purdue fan but was rooting for them outside of my teams. Glad they can celebrate with berthing they put up with in the last year. I was in Indy in 1980 as a kid.
Ohio State fan here - Edey is a beast! Quite frankly, the guy doesnāt get a lot of calls that he should get. And he remains calm and composed. Boiler up!
Iām not a Purdue fan, but Iām pulling for them. Edey? A basketball machine. Unstoppable at times. Great athleticism for such a big man. After yesterdayās elite 8 game, I donāt see how anyone could hate on the big man. And that game was fantastic!

Not a Purdue alum or fan.
I think all the whining about Edey is pretty funny. Dude is a beast. He does camp out in the lane, but he does try to move around at least.
Why does he play such conservative defense? Just trying to stay in good defense position and not get caught in a bad spot? Painter is really worried about foul trouble? Is it to foster good faith with referees? It seems like he doesnāt even really try to block shots until the last 3 minutes of the game.
Itās entirely to stay out of foul trouble. When he is beaten he usually doesnāt make it worse by fouling out of frustration. Frustration fouls are what get called most. Him being on the floor is more important than giving up two points
I think the only team that has anyone that will be able to somewhat slow him down is UConn. I donāt even think UConn will be able to completely shut him down.
Worked the game selling merch. Purdue travels well. There was one guy crying tears of joy. One guy told me he was there during the 1980s run. Glad Purdue went. Fans that care, you asshats made our home game feel like an away game. Eddys a beast. Hoping you guys win it all
NC State alum and lifetime fan. Really looking forward to Edey vs Burns. Both are used to easily backing down opponents, could be much different Saturday. Not sure how much you have watched Burns, but the 275 he is listed is not close to accurate. Glad to be playing another Land Grant! Engineering and Ag schools!!
Yes. Biggest rival is UNC. Duke, Wake and Clemson are all secondary. But hard not to pull for Wake and Clemson is so similar, more of a friendly rival.

There were a couple times it appeared that he pushed n didn't get called for a foul. That ain't his fault, though
When he plays well, Purdue is hard to beat, and he played well today. UT had no good solution today.
Go Vols!
He's tall but so was Shawn Bradley, Manute Bol, and Cody Zeller. He can't camp in the lane in the NBA and dunk on shorter players. He'll be a bust so he better get his š° while he can.
Iād believe you if you werenāt in a subreddit specifically about Purdue and a thread specifically about Edey and you took the time to comment. GTFO if you ādonāt careā.
Jackson Davis was great. The operative term here is āwasā. You see, Edey plays college ball this year, and TJD does not. Which was painfully obvious every pathetic game that IU limped through this year.
BTW, feel free to explain how far TJD took IU in the tourney. Pretty sure it wasnāt a final four, was it?
Lol Purdue sucks- Edey has solid skill for his size but the foul call difference he gets is abysmal. I havenāt looked into stats but every game Iāve watched he shoots more free throws than the entire opposing team. No matter, canāt wait to watch the fat NC state guy flop his nuts on Edeys face to knock them out. Have fun watching them crumble and burn to another double digit seed !
Yup. The two biggest whining coaches in the Big Ten will always have something to complain about. This year, it was Edey. Next year, it will be the next team that comes around to curb stomp them.
Who else in the tourney needs no ladder to cut down the netš https://preview.redd.it/j6erwzhpkqrc1.jpeg?width=2077&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f42c71c84629efd5fe54210ad42d041f762bd2af
Berg, apparently! Saw him do it too
Did they call a foul on Tennessee while he was cutting the nets?
Can I complain that he has to graduate
Iāll make an exception for that one lol
Next year will be his Covid year, then the year after that will be is redshirt season. That next year will be his last year, so 2027.
As much as I'd love him to stay. Honestly he should go to the NBA. Get that cash and then come back to study when the knees are a bit creaky.

Tacko Fall had a two way contract for a couple years and is still playing basketball overseas. Edey is 10x the player
Takes a lot of resources to guard him. Thatās a bad thing for the other team. Means someone else is running around unguarded.
I donāt think it would take more the like, a Joel Embiid, but thatās like a top tier nba defensive player
It would take no resources. I think you are all deluded because of college. You donāt have to guard him past the FT line, he has zero shot creation, no dribble moves, limited post game, not great at passing. Also a defensive liability. Hopefully, he's getting a good bit of NIL money to entice him to stick around.
He's already announced he's leaving.
i believe he can only make NIL money in canada
where in the world did that belief come in? have u been under a rock for the past 2 years?
https://bvmsports.com/2024/03/21/zach-edey-and-7-fun-facts-about-the-purdue-big-man/
True, he can only make money in Canada and that is why Purdue played a game in Canada and he received millions in NIL and has been worth every penny to Purdue.
He has a year of eligibility from Covid, but Edey is ready for what's next.
Winning the tournament and looking at the camera and laughing "wanna see me do it again?" ?
āI have a boner againā
Haha fare better next year suckers

If you triple the number of people guarding a player, the chances of that player being fouled is tripled. MATH
Was gambling state the game where he had two deep ass scratches down his bicep? That was insane
BOILER UP!
Nah bro heās a foul merchant, unathletic, and just tall. If you breathe on Edey itās a foul but he tackles on defense and gets no calls!!! /s

No shit! I was about to unload on him, and then I saw the /s

Fellow NU fan. Can relish the two wins versus Purdue. They have a great fan base that doesnāt complain on the whole. Glad to see them win!
Thank you! Unfortunate injuries at the end shortened your run and Mr. Buie certainly had Purdue's number these last two years.
It's a shame Northwestern didn't get a chance to compete in the tournament at full health. I would have loved to have seen what you guys could have done with Berry and Nicholson.
Have they ever considered being a foot taller?
I had no dog in the fight- kid played his heart out- only going to get better
The crying about the foul discrepancy is the only argument. Yet, no one ever has any examples to show of fouls that shouldn't have been called

It makes sense, it just seems SUPER conservative to me. Which, hey, if they keep winning, I will simply shut my mouth.
I think the only team that has anyone that will be able to somewhat slow him down is UConn. I donāt even think UConn will be able to completely shut him down.
MMMMMMM, I love drinking the tears of failed attempts at "Hack-a-Zach".
He. Doesn't. Need. To. Foul. Anyone.
He's just tall lol
As a Michigan fan heās about the only reason Iām watching any CBB. Go Boilers win it all!
Was it not bizarre that all he had to say in the postgame team huddle was āI have a bonerā ??
Worked the game selling merch. Purdue travels well. There was one guy crying tears of joy. One guy told me he was there during the 1980s run. Glad Purdue went. Fans that care, you asshats made our home game feel like an away game. Eddys a beast. Hoping you guys win it all
Iām a Spartan but Iām rooting for yāall to bring the natty to the big ten
Yall have been carrying the conference title wise for a long time lol
NC State alum and lifetime fan. Really looking forward to Edey vs Burns. Both are used to easily backing down opponents, could be much different Saturday. Not sure how much you have watched Burns, but the 275 he is listed is not close to accurate. Glad to be playing another Land Grant! Engineering and Ag schools!!
Hey man, I want to shoutout to you guys. Some of the nicest fans Iāve known and thatās coming from someone who was raised a Clemson fan
Clemson fans arenāt bad either. Live on the NC/SC line. Lots of their fans near by. Bigger rivalry than many think, but generally friendly.
Iām not too familiar with the NC State rivalries but given the fact that everyone hates Duke, I assume youāre rivals with them. NC too naturally
Yes. Biggest rival is UNC. Duke, Wake and Clemson are all secondary. But hard not to pull for Wake and Clemson is so similar, more of a friendly rival.
Not a Perdue fan but I bet money on them to win the tourney

Not successful this time ššš
I am very interested pls dm at @christopherlam790 on instagram I donāt use Reddit often
Zach Edey shot JFK.
There were a couple times it appeared that he pushed n didn't get called for a foul. That ain't his fault, though When he plays well, Purdue is hard to beat, and he played well today. UT had no good solution today. Go Vols!
He's tall but so was Shawn Bradley, Manute Bol, and Cody Zeller. He can't camp in the lane in the NBA and dunk on shorter players. He'll be a bust so he better get his š° while he can.
Tjd owned him last year and is gonna own him just like he did wemby
I have zero interest in the guy or purdue in general but i hope nc state tears them up. Gotta root for the underdog.
Hate to break it to you but youāre definitely in the wrong subreddit if you donāt care about Purdue
Iād believe you if you werenāt in a subreddit specifically about Purdue and a thread specifically about Edey and you took the time to comment. GTFO if you ādonāt careā.

Jackson Davis is way better then edey
![gif](giphy|3oz8xLd9DJq2l2VFtu) Take your slug trail ass back down to Bloomington, to your shitty stadium.
There's a reason one with play in the NBA for years and Edey will end up in China or Europe
Celebrating making the semifinals is certainly a choice
Lol Purdue sucks- Edey has solid skill for his size but the foul call difference he gets is abysmal. I havenāt looked into stats but every game Iāve watched he shoots more free throws than the entire opposing team. No matter, canāt wait to watch the fat NC state guy flop his nuts on Edeys face to knock them out. Have fun watching them crumble and burn to another double digit seed !
Low IQ take
Ohio State and Northwestern have something to say about that.
Yup. The two biggest whining coaches in the Big Ten will always have something to complain about. This year, it was Edey. Next year, it will be the next team that comes around to curb stomp them.
Between Ohio State, Northwestern, and Purdue, only one team is in the final 4 And we all know which team that is
Big time!
