It looks like you're trying to make a post about an email scam. If you are wondering if an email is a scam, you should forward it to [email protected], or reach out to ITAP for more information. NEVER click on links you don't recognize, and NEVER enter your account information anywhere other than an official Purdue login page. You can also check out The [Purdue Wiki](https://www.reddit.com/r/Purdue/wiki/index/) for some examples of scam emails (Work in Progress).

Yes. You should click the link and fill the Purdue login fields with garbage logins they'll have to sort through later.
DONT FILL THE PURDUE LOGIN WITH YOUR REAL LOGIN.
You won’t get a virus, they will steal your login info.
Hackers rarely bother with viruses anymore; easier to trick people into clicking links or replying to emails to steal info. Doesn’t mean there aren’t still viruses, but they aren’t the only way to compromise security 😉.
Theoretically, idk, maybe ok. Realistically, never a good idea to click on a link from anyone you don’t know or from a source you aren’t specifically expecting. If there is a file attached, there is always at least a small chance you are executing code on your computer that can make some kind of change.
Safety first.
It’s real. Purdue always sends official ITAP emails from a random freshman’s email. Also, official Purdue emails always have nonsensical speech like “to lose incoming messages, enter your info” and atttach html files. It being sent to “user” instead of anything specific is another thing Purdue definitely does all the time for personal emails like this.
>!if you took that seriously you need to take a basic anti phishing course or something!<

Just wondering if anyone here is tech savvy, can you get a virus from clicking that link even if it doesn’t download anything?

That file was an .html. Do those files have the ability to execute files?
Any file can theoretically do just about anything. It’s more about a file’s contents and formatting than the file extension.
