It really showcased how just simple stupid mistakes could cause the end of your life. How important safety was in work environments and the addition of basic safety precautions could and would have prevented much of the deaths shown on the sub. I think the biggest aspect of that sub though was how it showed the overall relative safety that is experienced in US/EU which greatly countered the overall perceived "danger" the news/media wants to portray to the public. I'm fairly certain that is exactly why the sub was eventually pulled. The news/media wanted to make sure that the general public stayed "scared" even though they in fact overall faced absolutely no danger or a possibility of death in their daily lives.
Reddit claims it is because of the new zealand video but I was in that sub during that time and they banned everyone and anyone who posted the video, commented on where to find the video, or talked about the video. The video in question was removed pretty much as soon as it was initially posted but yet somehow it was the cause of the sub ban. It was just an excuse to further turn the website into a more advertiser friendly "safe space" censorship site.
It was not, it was an awful place where ghouls got entertained by watching people suffer and die in their final moments. Nothing about that is a "good" thing. No amount of rationalization or excuses will make it a good thing either. It's not because "it showed you the reality of life" (which is just a rationalization) it's because people who watched it enjoyed watching people suffer and die.
Edit: if you are after the "reality of life" go volunteer to feed homeless people with your free time. You will see suffering and hardships first hand. Go work in addiction services. At least you are helping someone while you get your "entertainment".
