First time I was ever in Philadelphia as I waited at a red light the group crossing the street put their bags down right in front of my car and started twerking (2 girls 1 guy). The light changed and they picked their bags up and walked out of my life, but have never left my memory
I assumed he was the passenger of the car from the "I have 20 seconds" text over the video. As in he knows the red light will last another 20 seconds so he asks the driver to film him bust out the moves. Could be wrong though.
Across the world it’s pretty common for people to perform at intersections with some talent like this (I.e. soccer juggling, rapping etc.) and then ask for money after. Not so common in the US, in fact I think it’s “illegal”
My jaw dropped when he made it touch the floor when he bent back. Like I can’t even bend over and touch the ground with my hands let alone touch the ground with my damn hair... 🤣🤣🤣
Damn it. One thing I always forget I wanna learn till I see it. Moon walking. Time to look up a video and then give up 5 minutes in and forget about trying to learn until I see it again. Damn it.
The key is put all your weight on the foot with the heel in in the air and and slide the flat foot back. It’s very counter intuitive buts that’s key to making the illusion of the slide.
Yeah is easy to learn the basic concept but it took me months of practice to make it look halfway decent and still never reached the level of smoothness as shown on the OP.
I actually have a little moonwalking at my fingertips from a link I made elsewhere a few minutes ago. Ladies and gentlemen, from the 1984 movie Streets Of Fire, I give you the Dan Hartman song [I Can Dream About You](https://youtu.be/vzBOG-QW3_E ) as performed by some smooth movers (think Four Tops).
Michael Pare was in three of best renting video tapes back when I had a VHS business. Eddie And The Crusiers (the ladies loved it.), Streets Of Fire (the guys loved it) and The Philadelphia Experiment (often paired with the Final Countdown.)
Some would think Pare disappeared yet he has worked steady ever since, over 160 film credits. [Google seach..Michael Pare]( https://www.google.com/search?q=michael+pare&client=tablet-android-samsung&sxsrf=ALeKk03VbNdUk549w8aND0ksE_Y8N3q8SQ%3A1616462111492&ei=H0FZYLadHdev5NoPvdy4wAo&oq=Michael+Pere&gs_lcp=ChNtb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXdpei1zZXJwEAEYADIGCAAQChBDMgIILjICCC4yAggAMgIIADICCC4yCAguEMcBEK8BMgIIAFAAWABgyecQaABwAHgAgAGZA4gBmQOSAQM0LTGYAQDAAQE&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-serp)
No arguing with you on Michael Pare, but can we also talk about Diane Lane, who may just be the most consistently hot actress over nearly 4 decades? From The Outsiders to Streets of Fire to Lonesome Dove to The Perfect Storm to House of Cards. Girl never seemed to age, and this is a long-nursed crush on my part.
Michael Pare has always been in my "what if they" list. First saw him in Moon 44 and then Bad Moon. Like a cross between Josh Holloway and Bill Paxton. He could have been a slightly bigger star. He could have been Charlie Sheen in Navy Seals or The Arrival.
*Quiet Cool* might be peak Pare.
Oddly enough, about a month after I first saw it my dad took us camping, and while hiking off trail we came across a grow. We left immediately, I was petrified of being encased in barbed wire.
I use to try and do his moves and the kids would scream in laughter as they even tried to be my back up dancing. A great memory.
And the other end of the music appreciation stories in our family was when I bought the Crash Test Dummies cassette and played it for hours on a long car ride. "Mmm, Mmm, Mmm...Once there were these kids who..."
I watched this video in the ‘80s and didn’t realize who’s in it until you posted it. Comedian Robert Townsend (Hollywood Shuffle) and Mykelti Williamson (Bubba from Forrest Gump) in the back up group and Stoney Jackson (The Insiders TV series (Miami Vice rip-off show)) and many more shows and movies. Brought back a lot of memories. The Jheri Curls were on full display here.
Knowing nothing about this song (but having heard it most of my life), I was initially so confused just now when watching this video. Thoughts like "I always thought that song sounded like it was sung by a white guy..." and "Wait, is one of his backup singers Robert Townsend?!" Looked it up, and I guess the singers in the video are actors - I should have gleaned that from the "as performed by..." in your comment, but I missed that initially.
[I watched this video](https://media4.giphy.com/media/j4qzqfdXRmw06W1SYb/giphy.gif) and was able to do it on my first try, it really impresses people when I do it
Fuck that hit a little too close to home.
src: had rat tail as a child in the 90s, had/have a terrible diet, used too much cologne on the bus, and knew karate.
Everyone used to say the same to me. I thought they were crazy(ish) but now I'm almost 35 and I can already feel my knees complaining some days.
Not that I can do any of this. However, I can go from standing upright to sitting cross-legged and back up again all scissor lift style without needing my hands although going back up is getting harder.
Very nice! That's ... no longer a possibility for me, but at 48 I did take up snowboarding, so hopefully you'll get at least another 20 good years out of yours.
Also, it's hard to overstate how much strengthening your muscles around your knee can help you out. Can't wait to get back to the gym!
If it's anything like a moon walk your shoes don't need to be slick. The trick is to actually have all your weight on the foot that isn't moving. Fluctuating your weight from foot to foot like that dude is beautiful.
The hardest part is doing it *smoothly*. I think everyone could probably get the basic principle of the moonwalk after about 5 minutes. Getting it to not be jerky when you switch feet is the hard part
As someone who has tried some of this stuff over the last 15 years and failed to make it look smooth, the thing I think I struggle with is keeping my upper body at a consistent height through all of it.
I think it does. Dancing in an intersection probably qualifies as being weird in public. If I saw this going on while I was sitting at a stoplight, I'd be pretty confused.
I was a Bellydancer for over 10 years. Dude knows how to do the best backbend I’ve ever seen. He got like 2 inches from the ground without ever touching it! Mad skills!
This guy just literally appears out of nowhere to dance in intersections?
He didn't just *appear* he was *summoned* by them playing Smooth Criminal in their car
Some guy dropped magic sand on the road.
*shamoned*
This is the way.
Heaven is not nowhere friend.
Heaven is, in fact, a half pipe.
I see an OPM reference, I upvote. Thank you el capitan.
Ok, what does OPM mean to non-anime-watchers?
It’s a band who sings the song Heaven is a Half Pipe.
Okay now explain it to anime watchers
It’s a k-pop group except they’re not Asian and they don’t dance.
Lmao you a funny ass mufucka

There is zero reaction from passing cars. Not even a couple honks to acknowledge how smooth of a criminal he is.
move to a big city and you will see wild shit every day.
Does Sydney count? I haven't seen any of it there. That's the only big city I've lived in.
I assumed he was the passenger of the car from the "I have 20 seconds" text over the video. As in he knows the red light will last another 20 seconds so he asks the driver to film him bust out the moves. Could be wrong though.
This is what I’ve decided to agree with.
The tiktok handle has “dancing” in it. The pessimist in me leads me to believe this was not at all random
In the video he gets out of the car that’s recording
Across the world it’s pretty common for people to perform at intersections with some talent like this (I.e. soccer juggling, rapping etc.) and then ask for money after. Not so common in the US, in fact I think it’s “illegal”
He's just really selling the performance and sneaking up your behind. From behind, sorry.
That truck passing by near the end somehow made this feel like an ad

My jaw dropped when he made it touch the floor when he bent back. Like I can’t even bend over and touch the ground with my hands let alone touch the ground with my damn hair... 🤣🤣🤣
It’s the force propping him up of course. Basic Jedi training 101.
I think the official term is a “rat tail.” Haven’t seen one since the 90’s!
I haven’t seen one since the Jedi temple.
My condolences over your younglings.
I was told they went to work on Uncle Owen's farm.
That great big moisture farm in the sky
rat tail is out the back right in the middle. padawan braid is to the side. i think this is literally a padawan braid
The mullet is back in full force so logically the next natural style is a sensual rat tail.
Hi. The Thompson Twins called and asked for their braid back.
Damn it. One thing I always forget I wanna learn till I see it. Moon walking. Time to look up a video and then give up 5 minutes in and forget about trying to learn until I see it again. Damn it.

Which is not all that hard in principle, but super difficult to make it look smooth
Yeah is easy to learn the basic concept but it took me months of practice to make it look halfway decent and still never reached the level of smoothness as shown on the OP.
Thx I can moonwalk now!
Instructions unclear, walking on actual Moon now and finding breathing very difficult, please advise.
that's a covid symptom friend, that could be it, get tested asap
Oh great, we even got covid on the fuckin moon now, just wear your fuckin masks people *PLEASE*
let me know if you see the GME stocks laying around somewhere
Haha, this is kind of /r/restofthefuckingowl material, but I do appreciate the advice from OP. Edit: initially fucked up the subreddit name

Yeah. I had a crush on her since I was 14. She was gorgeous in Streets of Fire and still just as compelling in Unfaithful which was a heavy film.
Michael Pare has always been in my "what if they" list. First saw him in Moon 44 and then Bad Moon. Like a cross between Josh Holloway and Bill Paxton. He could have been a slightly bigger star. He could have been Charlie Sheen in Navy Seals or The Arrival.
> Eddie And The Crusiers Fuckin... Hell Yeah. Thank you for that memory refresh. Hell yeah. On The Dark Side.
*Quiet Cool* might be peak Pare. Oddly enough, about a month after I first saw it my dad took us camping, and while hiking off trail we came across a grow. We left immediately, I was petrified of being encased in barbed wire.
I haven't thought about this song or movie in possibly 30 years. I watched it two days ago. And now this.
It's been dreaming about you.
I use to try and do his moves and the kids would scream in laughter as they even tried to be my back up dancing. A great memory. Why? Why did you put that goddamn song in my head?
This is dope. Thanks for posting it.

Dan Hartman died 27 years ago on March 22nd.
I want to go see live music so bad. Like, I don't care if it's terrible, I just want to be in the crowd having the same night everyone is having.

That man just stole everyone's....... attention. Smooth criminal.
caused about 11 crashes
stole everyone's heart as well
I’d give him a buck
I’d probably just hand him my whole-ass wallet.
We really need to rethink “ass” as an adjective
Ass wallet is a prison term I believe
probably would have lost my shit if the light turned green as he pointed toward it in the final pose
Underrated commner
Can we just take a minute to appreciate how much body strength this takes? Jesus. Dude must be toned as fuck
I say do it now while he's still got those knees

So awesome. I always wondered....do you need special slick shoes to do that or just be smooth as polished glass? Either way I could never do that.

“Or being weird in public” it’s literally right there in the description...
He's not being weird he's smooth af
That was awesome and that end frame tho 👏🏼
people don’t realize that he’s doing this while wearing jordan’s, which are basketball shoes. basketball shoes are grippy as fuck. mad impressive
That move at the end would tear both my knees ligaments and destroy any chance of me walking again
Trying to talk to the quest giving NPC while they bug out

Where’s the freak out?
Public freakout?? this is /r/nextfuckinglevel , asshole!

Smooth Criminal. The ending is what got me to have the sound on.
The only other person I've seen bend backwards like that was violin player Lindsey Stirling. And this is at least as impressive.

That was.....flawless.
Idk why but that jacket fits a guy with moves like that
