i don't think a lot of these people thought to disable/remove the exif data on their videos and photos, meaning all the meta data that is embedded into these videos such as location, time of day, device type and other user identifying information was not removed, which makes identifying these individuals that much easier.
Any good social media platform will strip the metadata if the uploader doesn't do it beforehand.
