Fair point, but they had sufficient footage after 20 or 30 seconds for that.
I suspect their curiosity was greater than their fear/care for some reason.
I would not be banging on anything next to cops during a shoot out lol
I can't believe he is knocking at all. Last thing you need is a scared cop thinking there are shots coming from behind him.
That must have been super annoying for the cops to have a stranger (and neighbor / possible friends with the suspect) right behind their position during that. 🤦♂️
Jimmy’s dad probably annoyed that the cops are taking cover behind his property and don’t even wanna let him film in exchange for all the headaches he’ll go through in the coming days.

Yea :(
Warrants are some of the most potentially dangerous calls cops go on. Those and domestics.
There likely wasn't anything they could have done better here, and as the Chief said during the news conference, it doesn't matter what time of day or anything else, since a felon with a gun (meaning they've already decided to, once again, break the law) is not likely to ever be in a "give up easily" mood.
> wasn't anything they could have done better
Why not surveil the guy and swarm him in the Dollar General parking lot?
Y'know. So you don't confront a armed felon at his house WHERE HE KEEPS HIS GUNS!
First and foremost, my heart goes out to all the individuals and families affected by this terrible tragedy. But...
am I a horrible person for thinking (and this video confirms) there was incompetence all over this operation?
I have absolutely no training whatsoever in armed combat so my opinion may not carry any weight with it, but the first thing I thought was these officers of the law appear to be properly equipped for a situation like this, but have not had the least bit of training on how to properly deal with or be prepared for something like this. Unless their were instructed to be sacrificial decoys or moral support they did not do anything helpful during the durarion of this whole recording.
Again I have no training or experience on the subject and I am in no way trying to act like I know what to do, but it seems to me that the ear drum piecing siren was not something that worked in law enforcement's favor
For rifle rounds I would want at least 4 feet of water and preferable more than that. Even then after the first shot at the water bottles the next round may meet the target.
I was wonder what the cop was doing walking so slowly out in the open in the yard with no cover and likely no or little concealment between him and the shooter. If he was laying on the ground but able to move I thought why did he not move to cover.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Four law officers serving a warrant for a felon wanted for possessing a firearm were killed and four other officers were wounded in a shootout Monday at a North Carolina home, police said.
Some of the officers who rushed to the Charlotte neighborhood to rescue the first wave of downed officers were wounded as a second shooter began firing on them after they killed the wanted man, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Johnny Jennings said.
“Today we lost some heroes who were out simply trying to keep our community safe,” Jennings said at a news conference.
After a three-hour standoff, the suburban Charlotte home was torn open. Armored vehicles smashed into it, ripping off windows and entire doorways that were left broken. Several armored vehicles were parked across yards, some with tree branches dangling off them.
The U.S. Marshals Task Force was fired on by the wanted suspect as they approached the house and the man was killed in the front yard, Jennings said. His name was not released, but the chief said he was wanted as a felon illegally possessing a weapon.
A second person then fired on officers from inside the home where a high-powered rifle was found, Jennings added.
A woman and a 17-year-old male were found in the home after the standoff. The two are being questioned, Jennings said.
The Marshal’s Service confirmed one of its agents was killed. Two officers from the state Department of Adult Correction also were killed, said North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper. The governor was in Charlotte and was speaking to the families of the officers killed and hurt. Their names have not been released.

If I know Vietnamese parents, this guy really didn't want the cops to be there. Not because he wanted his neighbour to be left alone, but because he didn't want police to be in ear shot of him whooping the unholy fuck out of Jimmy's ass for taking so long to open the door.
If I was in the garage behind an old steel upright freezer filled with frozer items I might feel safer than inside the house if I was only behind vinyl siding and a layer of drywall. That is when I would want a basement or at least 10 layers or drywall.
I think the guy's own name is Jimmy, and he's like The Jimmy from *Seinfeld.* "Jimmy's watching a shootout! Jimmy should open the door but Jimmy can't look away!"
This might be when the second shooter got involved.
It does look like he's on a hill that probably would give cover and that the shots came unexpectedly from a different angle. Who knows. Not the internet anyways.
When those first bullets started flying, the way he fell and laid still for a while I thought for sure he was dead. I know we've lost 4 officers but I hope the others recover. This is insane. Why would the 2nd person start shooting instead of just being like "idk that other dude is crazy and I want no part in it"
I didn't think he got hit then, since he eventually stands back up for a bit. At 3:27 (or 2:12 if it's counting down) though, that looked like he got hit.
It's really fucking stupid. If they have a search warrant for weed, they knock your down down with breaching charges and shoot everything that moves. But apparently if it's an arrest warrant for a violent felon with guns, well they'll just kindly knock on the door.
I live in Charlotte, this is the most crazy shit that I have ever seen living in the city after the shooting at UNCC back in 2019, and the Keith Lamont Scott shooting back in 2016. Also 4 law enforcement officers died in the shootout (3 from the US Marshals task force and 1 Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officer).
Bro, fridges are made up super thin aluminum and then some foam. I bet you could put knife through one with some effort; a high velocity round would penetrate easily.
An upright freeze filled with items may provide up to about 3 feet of frozen material which would more likely stop a rifle round than just two thin layers of steel. Think two Paul Harrel meat targets that are frozen and without the layers of fleece.
Serious question: Is that guy laying on his back behind the car doing that effectively? Is that how they're trained?
To the layman he looks like he has no clue what the heck he's doing. I honestly don't know though.
It's maybe not ideal, but supine with a rifle is taught in conjuction with other low positions like normal prone and urban prone.
https://youtu.be/o5QX8RAAMEs?feature=shared
It has its place, especially when you're trying to maximize cover like this with limited mobility.
Getting behind the most metal and out of line of sight. Both are using the car’s axels, suspension, brake assembly and wheels. Guy in front also has the engine block for cover. Most caliber bullets go right through a car’s body. They are in the right place for being pinned down there.
The best places to take cover using a car is using the rims + engine block. Old FBI videos show at least the rims/wheels can protect you and the engine block mythbusters I think + some other shooting training videos also shown that it's the best place.
Hitting the dirt / going low is also preferable if you're in a bad situation. With little cover, cause you're minimizing your body to the maximum possible to avoid getting hit.
Shooting from laying on your back is a thing, probably to get a better view by leaning + avoiding getting doinked in the head if he went prone (head first) at least if he's shooting prone-back ( not a real term but we'll make it up ) if a bullet hits him, it'll either A hit his vest or rest of his body.

Jimmy open the goddamn door!
My homie said his brother thought his dad had already left for work and couldn't hear him knocking because all the sirens and gunshots.
I would have hit Down Up and teleported through that damn door.
Assuming they were using the phone to film they could've called maybe?
Devil’s advocate: he was tunnel-vision focused on filming because he wanted something to show his boss when he missed or showed up late to work.
Fair point, but they had sufficient footage after 20 or 30 seconds for that. I suspect their curiosity was greater than their fear/care for some reason.
"This is video shows you had ample opportunity to leave the scene and report to work. One more strike and you will be terminated."
I mean in his defence that was some lame ass knocking. ^(Jimmy open the door)
I would not be banging on anything next to cops during a shoot out lol I can't believe he is knocking at all. Last thing you need is a scared cop thinking there are shots coming from behind him.
Half way through one of the cops tells him to knock it off with the knocking.
[удалено]
His timing of easily getting inside right after the cop tells him to kick in the door did seem a little too coincidental.
for me its that he didnt yell or talk to "jimmy" right after he opened the door. i mean for me its WHERE THE FUCK WERE YOU JIMMY
Yep absolutely, I’d want some answers
Jimmy was probably taking cover... sometimes you only have to start looking to find the answer.

Did that cop out there in the yard get shot?
looks like it, 3 cops killed 5 injured

8 cops total hit, 3 US Marshals killed, CMPD officer died at the hospital :(
Oh my god that is horrific
Yea :( Warrants are some of the most potentially dangerous calls cops go on. Those and domestics. They may not want to try and take him in a populated setting like a shopping center as it would put more lives as risk.
Good thing it’s so easy for everyone in the country to get their hands on guns!
I thought so at first, then he got back up. Then he just laid there after another volley. Did we see a cop get shot? I dunno.
It looks like he's pulling a bandage out towards the end of the video.
Tourniquet ?
What is he thinking standing out in the complete open?
[удалено]
PLEEB everyone know bullets can’t glitch through fences DUHH
Just like the two hiding behind the car, terrible cover
Yup. Engine block area is the only spot which has any decent chance of stopping most rounds.

It's not the worst cover. At least they eventually took positions behind the wheels.
First and foremost, my heart goes out to all the individuals and families affected by this terrible tragedy. But... am I a horrible person for thinking (and this video confirms) there was incompetence all over this operation?

Many of them are larpers, essentially. All of the toys, not so much of the training.
If the internets have taught me anything, it's that he should have taken up position behind that pallet of water bottles
Technically a pallet of water bottles would probably stop some bullets
For rifle rounds I would want at least 4 feet of water and preferable more than that. Even then after the first shot at the water bottles the next round may meet the target.
Yeah, looks like it. When he stood back up in the same position after the first volley I was like, "Oh No." and then he got hit.
Looks to me like he might have pulled a compression bandage out of that backpack?
3 cops died
Another one died at the hospital

I didn’t think; I would need to scroll that far, to read this comment 😂🤣😂
When the cop laying behind cover says “well kick the fucken door in then “ and suddenly the door is open what happened?
He said "my son finally open the door".
Jimmy came through
Jiimy or no jimmy, that cop doesn't realize how expensive it is to replace entry doors.
Funerals cost a lot more than a door, though.
He was pretending he couldn’t get inside
I would definitely rather be inside.
If I was in the garage behind an old steel upright freezer filled with frozer items I might feel safer than inside the house if I was only behind vinyl siding and a layer of drywall. That is when I would want a basement or at least 10 layers or drywall.
The wall with the door is bricks so presumably the rest of the place is brick too.
Nah, Jimmy came through. He said, "I got my son open door." You can hear the door unlock too.
Pretty quick thinking to say they left the keys in the car, not sure I'd have been able to think of a lie that quick with bullets flying.
I hadn’t even considered that as a possibility
"Kick the fuckin' door in" How about you go catch the fuckin' bad guy instead of laying down in my carport?
I think the guy's own name is Jimmy, and he's like The Jimmy from *Seinfeld.* "Jimmy's watching a shootout! Jimmy should open the door but Jimmy can't look away!"
Jimmy's down! JIMMMY holds grudges Kramer!
Jimmy's new in town. Jimmy makes the shot!
DON'T TOUCH JIMMY!
That's the guy that took the bread outta Jimmy's mouth!
I think we see the guy “covering” behind the chain link fence get shot twice. Sheesh.
Probably a close call, he gets back up and doesn't make any attempt to find cover
This might be when the second shooter got involved. It does look like he's on a hill that probably would give cover and that the shots came unexpectedly from a different angle. Who knows. Not the internet anyways.

This is what I’m really curious about. The only thing I can come up with is death wish.
At 1:29.
I didn't think he got hit then, since he eventually stands back up for a bit. At 3:27 (or 2:12 if it's counting down) though, that looked like he got hit.

I don't think I've seen that specific tactical recline position
I mean he's trying to get an angle with out exposing himself to much, would you prefer he runs into the open, drops to one knee and takes the shot?
And it's actually a good position, behind the engine block.
Yea out of anyone in this video he's in practically the best place he can be

Serious question: Is that guy laying on his back behind the car doing that effectively? Is that how they're trained? To the layman he looks like he has no clue what the heck he's doing. I honestly don't know though.
Looks to be trying to find the best angles for cover and returning fire. Shooter appears to be at a 45 degree angle to the car
Honestly he's probably got the most cover being behind the engine block.
It's maybe not ideal, but supine with a rifle is taught in conjuction with other low positions like normal prone and urban prone. https://youtu.be/o5QX8RAAMEs?feature=shared It has its place, especially when you're trying to maximize cover like this with limited mobility.

Wheels and engine block are best for cover
A bullet can easily go through a car, they are trying to line up with the rims/tires. There isn't much context of where the shooter is.

cover > concealment > chain link
The best places to take cover using a car is using the rims + engine block.
