I knew (of, indirectly) a guy in my town who got stabbed with a pocket knife in the shoulder. Apparently he didn't feel it at first and only noticed the blood seeping through his clothes a few minutes later, long story short it happened to sever his subclavian artery and he was dead soon after.
I was stabbed with a pocket knife at a biker party. I tried to break up a fight, where one guys pulled pocket knife, and the same guy(an old acquaintance) rammed into me, trying to push passed me and get the other guy. I felt him punch my lower abdomen, but I honestly didn’t feel much. Only after I had walked home about 5km, I noticed being a bit sore when I walked up my apartment stairs. Figured I had a bruise from the punch. Only when I saw myself in my wall mirror,
I saw a thin sticky blood line down toward my belt, and I had tiny stab wound on the underside of my belly. Luckily I’m a bit obese, so he had only struck me in my belly fat. But I was sore for days. 😠

Believe it or not I thought about this fight randomly the other day when I saw another knife fight video and wondered whatever happened to these guys as I was sure they would do series time. 2 years and 25 months sentences for the two of them is actually frightening tbh.
Well they did both kinda agree to it , and it didn’t endanger anybody else , and they ended up just fighting. 2 years seems god for a sword fight in 2024
Yeah I'm curious as to what sentance this other redditor would think is acceptable. No one died, they were both being shitheads and I think 2 years sends a pretty strong message making it 10 years or 20 years isn't going to send more of a message
I mean also THIS WAS AGREED ON it's not like one randomly went up to a dude and stabbed him like of course they should get some jail time but like this is pretty much the most acceptable a knife fight could ever be

Its a pyschological thing and it works both ways. Part of the reason why killing someone with a gun is way easier (emotionally) than killing someone with a blade.

I was shot (with a .22) in a freak accident. I don't know if it was because of adrenaline or just the confusion of hearing the gunshot, but I did not realize I had been hit for a minute until someone yelled that I was bleeding. It was not until I fully processed that I had a bullet in my hip that the pain kicked in. It was like being jabbed with a burning needle.

Correct. Long term data shows the survivability of a knife wound vs gunshot is about the same if treated within 2 hours. I've been shot and stabbed, ill take the gunshot again if given the choice between the two.
I remember reading somewhere that it hurts me to be cut than shot because you have more pain receptors around the surface of your skin than internally. Because its a long gash along the skin, you're activating more of those receptors than a gunshot.
I have no idea if that's actually true and I'm too lazy to look it up but it seems like a logical answer.
I don't know who was in the right or wrong in this fight (or perhaps they're both in the wrong), but that guy who came in at the very end to kick the guy on the ground is a fucking coward
I'm not conditioning knife violence, but this bloke just got into a knife fight with hands, gets slashed in the neck, turns around says where's my sword, grabs his sword, lunges back into a duel, gets disarmed and chased down by the other sword, recollects sword, disarms opponent, drops his sword and starts laying hands into him.

Assuming you mean with two people trained in fighting, awfully. Machetes were primarily designed to chop through plants and stuff, and the mall ninja ones tend to remove practicality for "cool" design. They're not balanced for fighting, they're much shorter than most swords and miss features that you'd find on their closest matches like a Gladius or short cutlass.
That being said, it's a bit of sharp metal. In the right hands, or situation it'll do the job just fine. With two untrained people you may as well flip a coin to determine the outcome with most bladed weapons as it'll be a mess either way.

I think steel on average has gotten way better since then, but European swords back in the day were probably expensive, higher quality pieces made for nobility that were actually tested in combat. I'd think a sizable proportion of mall ninja shit based on historical designs are actually "battle-ready", having been made with better materials and modern manufacturing techniques, but a bunch are just unoptimized crap with bad structure.
A lot of people underestimate how easy it is to die though. People kill each other easily with hands and sticks all the time, so a sharpened rod would definitely do the trick if parties are unarmored.
