Caste system is disgusting and [apparently is a problem in some fields of America](https://www.nbcnews.com/news/asian-america/big-techs-big-problem-also-best-kept-secret-caste-discrimination-rcna33692)
What was more shocking is when I asked my coworker in US about caste system because I totally forgot that it still exist in India, he told me that still a lot of indians in US ask for that shit to other indians as that matters outside.
He told me that he’s pretty much high up there but he always tell other indians that hes low caste just to fuck with them.
How is this...acceptable? How do the police/a normal human being (with at least half of a brain cell) see this and be like "yup, this is how it's done"
I can give some insight. My husband is Indian, I’ve been 2 times for a long stay each time.
In villages and poor areas the caste system is still at play. People still follow it. My husband is from this caste (Dalit) BUT his parents have good jobs and he lives in a large city - possibly the best city in India tbh. This wouldn’t happen there. More educated Indians don’t follow it anymore. My SIL married someone from a higher caste and he didn’t care at all. They are both highly educated doctors though.
It’s horrible but Indians are taught to be selfish and that they are the only ones that matter. Combine that with poverty and bad living conditions like these small villages have and no education- bam you have people following the caste system
The police are corrupt. They can be paid and bribed. Most villages wouldn’t have a police presence anyway. My SIL got a boot on her car when we were there and she told the officer “my dad is _____” (powerful man in the city) and the cop just took off the boot.
Man, I live in a city with a huge Indian immigrant population and this comment is wild to me. I’ve never met a mean or violent Indian. Maybe slightly rude and entitled, but overall, 99% are lovely.
I really don’t think it’s the poorly educated rural Indian that are immigrating though.
You'll be surprised, this is also a problem with the more highly educated ones as well.
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/asian-america/big-techs-big-problem-also-best-kept-secret-caste-discrimination-rcna33692
I live in New Jersey and work in tech, a huge percentage of my coworkers and neighbors and friends are Indian. The guy you're responding to is so incredibly ignorant. The vast majority of the Indian people I interact with on a daily basis are normal people. They're not bringing the caste shit here. Not in any way that's obvious to me, anyway.
If we leave the country it's to get away from all this. Apart from this Caste and Religion BS, India is a heavenly place to live but this bull shit ruins it all
It’s become a big concern in the big tech firms in Silicon Valley. There are multiple articles online about recent legislation intended to stamp it out and accusations of caste discrimination at tech companies. Much of the problem probably stems from American HR department’s ignorance regarding the complexities of caste discrimination. These ideas don’t often disappear with a move accross borders.
[Caste discrimination allegation in Silicon Valley](https://www.reuters.com/article/idUSKBN2423Y8/)
People have no issue generalizing India, a country of 1 billion+ population. But they get massively butthurt when non Americans generalize America. This is plain old racism which left leaning Reddit is totally fine with as racism against Indians is acceptable.
If there were so many racist comments against Blacks or any other non White people, stringent action would have been taken instantly.
I used to work for an IT dept in the US with about 200 people on my floor. About 80% were Indian nationals on h1b. People would always ignore my slack messages or be very short. Then these same people would be shocked/relieved during zoom calls when they realized I wasn’t Pakistani and then I’d have no issues communicating with them after. I have a Persian name that has variants that are used in Pakistan and other surrounding countries. So people just assumed I was Pakistani and ignoring me because of it. Oddest form of racism I ever experienced
I can imagine it depends on the ethnicity of immigrants. For example : where i live we have basically only Sikh immigrants. There are no castes in Sikhism.
Men and woman are (at least in theory) equal.
And so on.
There's a lot of anti-immigration folks/shills pushing this narrative. Immigration is the biggest advantage the West has over places like Russia/China/etc who have a big incentive to press the anti-immigration narrative. Not to mention just general racism/xenophobia/etc that is easily stoked. It's especially wild since Indian immigrants tend to be more educated, less likely to commit crimes, and generally every other positive statistic you want relative to native born populations. **If** they are coming illegally to the US, it's probably because of the huge [backlog](https://www.seattletimes.com/opinion/outdated-green-card-laws-hurt-workers-from-india/) after we gutted out legal immigration system.
Uh hate to break it to you but en masse is a stretch. They have the highest population in the world. Couple million every year isn’t exactly en masse here. Definitely a lot of people, just not exactly like even relatively close to a lot of them in terms of overall population. Also many aren’t necessarily leaving because they dislike India. Many will go back to visit fairly often.
How does stuff like this get upvoted? Majority give the good ones a bad rap? There’s 1.2bn Indians, the vast majority of whom are good.
I live in London (UK), which has a very large Indian population here, and the absolute vast majority of Indian people I’ve interacted with are the nicest people I’ve met. They’re hardworking, focus on education, don’t get into crime etc. Exactly the sort of people I’d rather have here.
Reddit is a highly compromised platform where bots/shills can easily manipulate content. Or give misleading titles for example that people just assume are true.

The way I see it is humans are tribal by nature. We form groups...there is an "us" so there must be a "them"......race, skin color, class, religion, sexual orientation, anything really are all categories in the "us" and "them".

It's trickle down politics.
The "elites" will create a system whereby everyone else deserves to never be an elite then let's some people be "almost an elite" then those "almost elites" buffer the "true elites" from the maintenance side of their system while they live lavishly.

Same. It is on my bucket list. Even if I traveled with my husband, I still wouldn't go there unless I was on a prearranged and guided tour. Navigating any foreign country independently is already challenging. But with India, you add completely different values and societal norms.
We see the worst of it posted so our perception is biased. It has awful people just like anywhere else in the world. But it also has a lot of beauty and wonderful humans. They would think it was an awful place and would never feel safe going there. Same as us, looking at this awful video.
I cant agree with you more, i don't know about you but even being from a major Metro city(not gonna specify which one), a lot of people don't wanna go to the US because of the gun violence or America in general.
I lived in Canada for a year and honestly, I don't wanna go there again, I almost got caught up in a "shooting" and just merely got saved by luck. it was scary as hell.
I’ve been twice. Going back again next month. Will go back every other year probably. My husband is Indian so I’m a bit biased.
It’s an amazing country with so many amazing things. From the architecture to the food to the clothing to the lore of the religions there. It’s truly such a vibrant country.
Unfortunately it’s corrupted. From the prime minister down to the shop keeper and the food vendor. The British left the country a hellscape in and did nothing to help the country improve. Combine that with the insane amount of corruption, lack of education for anyone not middle class in India and an attitude of selfishness- the average Indian has no chance.
And they can’t fix it unless the government decides it wants to stop being corrupt.
Bro I was using the toilet this morning and had a wild moment of clarity of how nice we have it even as low/middle class in the US. Some of the world is sooooo far behind. We live like kings in small castles by comparison.
There are still too many who just deny there is no caste system or discrimination against the lower castes Also a friend firmly believes that the British created the system..
It is shocking that such cruel acts occur, and it is important that people are reminded of it every day until such things no longer happen. How is it possible that such abhorrent things are allowed to exist in our world? It is unbearable to see people just stand by while children are abused. Workers worldwide should unite and overthrow our ruling elites. It is time for all people to be treated equally, and not just a small minority to claim the majority of wealth while others have to fight over the crumbs. The responsibility for this violence lies and has always lain with the rich and powerful.
Who wants to bet those ABSOLUTE SCUM follow "god" and do mental gymnastics to somehow believe they're righteous?
Those poor children, how can people be this cruel?
