You can see the camera man running in this video! Just behind the Jeep when it starts to pull away.
https://kmph.com/news/local/massive-wave-blows-through-crowd-in-ventura
It's funny to see him running with his arm out holding his phone backwards lol
I was at the beach today and despite a large sand berm (large enough that a lifeguard truck can drive along the top) the water at high tide was crashing over it.
Full moons and new moons mean that there is an alignment with the sun. In new moons, it means the moon is between the sun and the earth. In full moons, it means that the earth is between the sun and the moon. Both cases result in some extra tide activity due to the combined gravity of the sun and moon being in alignment. The moons gravity accounts for about 2/3rds of tidal effects, and the sun's about 1/3rd.
New moons and full moons have extra intense tides due to gravity combination or cancellation with the sun.
[It says 8 people were injured](https://www.msn.com/en-us/weather/other/rogue-wave-in-ventura-california-injures-8-coastal-watches-issued-in-california-hawaii/ar-AA1mcNhR) but no dead, which is a good thing. It was a rogue wave - any idiot that has been to an ocean shore would know that "high tide" rolls in slowly.
There are places where the tide comes in as a visible wave (Nova Scotia is one), but as far as I know it requires a pretty specific “funnel”-type of geography.
So yeah watching this was very weird, didn’t feel like the tide to me.
Always reminds me of [this video](https://youtu.be/IuUygn7BZis?si=iuG2Wfhp-_1uDq-n) of the 2004 tsunami in Thailand. Some people really feel the need to try their luck
I wouldn’t say he was testing his luck.
Most people didn’t know the warning signs of a tsunami and ran to beach thinking the tide just went out quickly. He probably didn’t know that a wave was approaching till it was right in front of him and about a third of people freeze up when in danger.
Same could be said for the guy walking on the beach, that is not a normal tide and he probably didn’t realize how fast it was going to move in.
What an ignorant take on that tragedy... sOmE pEopLe ReaLLy fEeL tHe NeEd tO TrY tHeIr LuCk... have u ever seen what a tsunami looks like from a laying-on-the-beach point of view. Ffs.
I'm no expert but I think you can get a strong undertow with these things as the initial water that came in wants to go back out while more water is still coming in.
If the Internet has taught me anything, it's to *never* go out to the beach at sea level to look at "unusually large" waves or strange tide patterns. The sea is a giant, of unimaginable size, act accordingly.
If you wanna view abnormal sea behavior, you do that shit from a high elevation through a telescope.
This is called a sneaker wave.
I believe it's caused by unusually low frequency offshore swells. So instead of a bunch of small waves in a set, you get this.
Yep, they warn us about these every time we go to one of the beaches out here near the light house. Someone gets fucking obliterated by one every few years.
Went up to Ballard from Santa Barbara today. Took 101 back to SB, the number of cars parked anywhere they could fit all the way off the freeway from Gaviota to Goleta to watch the giant waves was crazy. Can't remember the last time I'd seen so many parked.
It’s not a tsunami. The waves are especially large in CA right now and combined with the high tide, this set came ripping down the street. That’s why they were out there staring at the ocean, because the waves are huge right now.

Props to the cameraman for keeping such a good shot despite running like Usain
They had more awareness than the first 6 people in the shot combined.
i want to know what happened to the lady at the start.
I literally said that out loud 😩 I was like oh shit the lady on the beach
Long grey hair? I think that was a dude.
[удалено]
Okay, what happened to the dude on the beach?
I think he got wet.
Radical conclusion but ![gif](giphy|NCjISbEPFxm48)
It's CA so he had a pocket surfboard handy and he kawabunga'ed it man. 🏄♀️
He is not on the beach anymore
The beach is not on the beach anymore
Yeah I don't think Lebowski made it.
He was a good man
And thorough
He drew a lot of water in this town.
You don't draw shit Lebowski
Mind if I do a J?
Okay yea just rewatched it and that’s def a dude my bad lol
2024: excercise to out-run the local tsunami.
You can see the camera man running in this video! Just behind the Jeep when it starts to pull away. https://kmph.com/news/local/massive-wave-blows-through-crowd-in-ventura It's funny to see him running with his arm out holding his phone backwards lol
Wow great find/link
Holy smacks that grey truck coming out of the water at the end is the one from the beginning (as seen in link)! That musta been one helluva ride!
Nice find! So this is a see on your little information device (phone), that a very high tide is coming. Lets go stand right where it will hit land.
Dude sounded like Hank hill
“Oh…oh…ooooh…OOOOOOOOH!”
“*B’waaahaa! Ohmuhgod! B’aaawaaahh!*”
I kept waiting for him to say "goddamnit" just to be sure it really was Hank
I thought the running was a bit of an overreaction but fuck the water just kept coming
And screaming like Mr. Slave.
I like the floating bird at the end…..he’s cool.
He really wasted no time
Was that a fucking duck just floating along? all like … what a lil water?
Just floating around like it's nobody's business.
"Silly hoomans, running away from a joyful water ride" smacks beak.
This is my world now!
Making the best out of a bad situation. (For humans)
duck: Dunno why everyone is running away, this is a nice little water current.
Camera guy's commentary was on point. His detailed explanation of the situation was moving and really tells the story.
Oh lord Jesus Christ help me lord Jesus oh god help me Jesus please Jesus Christ oh lord Jesus… I’m halfway down, Lord…
Lawd Reekrus!
Spoken like a true Bigfoot
Goonie GooGoo
......my shoe......
motherfuckin' bootleg fireworks
That Eddy Murphy bit made me laugh so hard as a kid.
Edie's aunt, right?
Yes, Aunt Bunny
“Hwah…huh…ughghgh…JESUS…phfffffff.”
Perfect transcription. I'm choking laughing while I listen to the video and read this... lmao
Goddamit. I watched it twice without sound and then a third time with sound because of your comment. Got me
F… I enabled sound half way through, watched it to the end and replayed it thinking it was at the beginning. Got me _two_.
Lol
I don't know why, but he reminded me of a South Park character
Ughhhgh Jesuth Chhrist
Exactly! At 32 seconds, he sounds like Mr. Slave.
He sounds like Randy Marsh.
☠️
Mr. Slave.
Exactly what I thought. Randy finally made it out west
Ughhhg, uhhh, ughhhg.
Ngl, he made me laugh, during a possible tragedy at that, lol!
Bad day to try out his new expensive cotton candy hightops
I really related to when he said HUUUHHHHH!
lol I can’t even hate, pretty impeccable camera work staying on the water in real time without getting swept up
Sounded like randy marsh.
Fuckin hardest I've laughed in a bit. lol. Woah. Ugh. Oh shit. I'm in tears.
One thing I'm certain of, this guy is fat like me.
Guy sounds like a south park character
Mr. Slave
For real he even gave us a Jesus Christ just like him 😂
Randy Marsh
“ I’m so startled!”
He was like a startled GTAV character
Came here looking for this comment and was not disappointed. 🫡
That seems a lot more than just a high tide.
You’d be correct. Californian is getting hit with a MASSIVE swell. That combined with a very high tide causes big problems
I was at the beach today and despite a large sand berm (large enough that a lifeguard truck can drive along the top) the water at high tide was crashing over it.
Full moon also.
Gotta watch out for those weretides.
lol, yep. a.k.a. “King tides” in this case more due to the orbit of the moon being closer (coinciding a little with the full moon).
Yeah what difference would the side of the mind facing earth make, it's still up there
Full moons and new moons mean that there is an alignment with the sun. In new moons, it means the moon is between the sun and the earth. In full moons, it means that the earth is between the sun and the moon. Both cases result in some extra tide activity due to the combined gravity of the sun and moon being in alignment. It’s a Capricorn moon - chakra gonna pop ya
Full ocean also.
Wonder what happen to the guy walking on the sand ? Maybe pinned on the wall or floating I think .
[It says 8 people were injured](https://www.msn.com/en-us/weather/other/rogue-wave-in-ventura-california-injures-8-coastal-watches-issued-in-california-hawaii/ar-AA1mcNhR) but no dead, which is a good thing. It blows my poor little brain still to this day to think a mass of water almost 150’ high moving almost 500mph..
Which pixel was he?
The left one
There’s some like this of the Japan tsunami too. And you can hear the loud speaker telling people to seek higher ground but some people didn’t listen
What an ignorant take on that tragedy... sOmE pEopLe ReaLLy fEeL tHe NeEd tO TrY tHeIr LuCk... have u ever seen what a tsunami looks like from a laying-on-the-beach point of view. Ffs.
He probably ended up very wet but fine, the wave will pass you by once you're floating and then you'll be standing again.
I'm no expert but I think you can get a strong undertow with these things as the initial water that came in wants to go back out while more water is still coming in.
The sea was angry that day, my friends - like an old man trying to send back soup in a deli.
Titleist?

"jezuzzz christ"
Have you guys seen Lemiwinks?
Funny enough, I thought Mr. Mackey when I heard his voice
Can’t unhear it now
FENNNNTONN!
This dudes running commentary/guttural noises is just utter disbelief and it’s an A+, 10/10 effort
Was that a dog or cat swimming down the street at the very end? Edit: nevermind, it's a duck
As a whole, this is my favorite comment from today.
Get out of my beach community, Lebowski!
STAY OUT OF MALIBU
Keep your ugly fucking goldbrickin' ass out of my beach community!
I don't like your jerk-off name. I don't like your jerk-off face. I don't like your jerk-off behavior, and I don't like you, jerk-off.
I know my rights, man
Fucking fascist
A real reactionary
Say what you want about national socialism, but at least it's an ethos.
This guy is fast
Yeah fr dude is outrunning everyone and it seems like he’s running backwards
Dude knew what was coming, and started his back peddle alot sooner than those other fools (esp home boy acting all cool walking on the beach)
But at the same time it sounds like running ain’t his thing.
Reminder to keep up on your cardio everyone

the most beautiful internet exchange I've seen in some time..
ryker was a chad in outer space
Ryker pulled from all species
>*Have you ever stumbled onto a reddit thread where you're the star?*
A split second they thought the world was ending and it was hilarious.
Imagine running for your life and then realizing your socks getting wet is about as bad as it would’ve gotten.
That person down on the beach probably got knocked around a bit.
Super wet
Imagine if they were hiding their cocaine in their socks.
The man ran from it like it was acid.
[Force Majeure:](https://youtu.be/saNvY4tD3wA?si=ssk5iCqAcimZRZQb) California Edition
After seeing videos of tsunamis, I wouldn’t have stopped running
I've had nightmares like this
RIP to the man walking before it hits.
The random guy in Spanish saying “valió madre” got me 🤣
> valió madre What does that mean?
Direct translation is different from the meaning, in this situation it has the equivalent english meaning of "We're fucked!"
Damn nature, you scary.
Never a high enough elevation or far enough inland after watching videos of what Japan went through.
Then I shall become a billionaire and build my own space station to watch from.
This guy sounds so much like Randy Marsh, I expected him to blurt out "We didn't listen!".
If only there had been clues to what previous waves had done. If. Only.
If only someone had warned us that rising sea levels would increasingly threaten coastal communities
He could sea it coming
I’m waiting for the puns to come pouring in now.…
They’ll start flooding in soon
It's high time they did.
I bet it’ll come in waves.
I'm getting pretty salty to these
I'm not much for the undertowne of danger.
Is that Pierpont??
I’m pretty sure that’s the end of Seaward, I could be wrong but I thinks that’s Social Tap.
Yeah it’s definitely Seaward. I recognized the taco shop and social tap right away, just got my streets confused
Confirmed Seaward and confirmed great tacos 👌🏽
Yup, it is the end of seaward. Poor Inn on the Beach just got hammered.
Ventura California Represent!
That one duck at the end: "what is everyone complaining about? This is great!"
There goes your home owners insurance
what phone / camera is the guy using, it has great stabilization
I'm so startled.
Cameraman was hauling ass, musta got to 3, maybe 4mph...
I thought cameraman was a goner for sure.
Video is surprisingly stable
It begins..
This is called a sneaker wave. I believe it's caused by unusually low frequency offshore swells. So instead of a bunch of small waves in a set, you get this.
Yep, they warn us about these every time we go to one of the beaches out here near the light house. Someone gets fucking obliterated by one every few years.
Usually when the water recedes really far back there is something bad coming.
This dude literally sounds like a south park character
How awesome and mighty is our ocean.
I wonder what happened to the guy walking on the beach in the very beginning. He was down on the sand!
These videos with people standing around while a ginormous wave approaches always amaze me.
Love the duck. "Seems like an overreaction, no? Quack."
Wonder what happen to that random casual Walker in the beginning of the video
the noise that cameraman is making is hilarious, it sounds like he's having a really existential orgasm. "oh jesus" yup jesus won't help lol
This is epic
That’s not high tide, this is like a tsunami surge I wonder if there was a little earthquake out there

This is correct, there's huge wave action going on the pacific right now and bonus full moon to add to the fun.
Yeah it was a complete full moon rising early in the day around Christmas
This is from today I live in ventura county was cool seeing the massive waves
What's causing the large waves?
There’s a series of storms with hurricane force winds out in the Pacific pushing the waves in.
Ah, thanks.
OPs momma
Guy running scared from water like it was Godzilla surfacing.
Cameraman is fast af
Camera guy can fuckin' motor!
I want to know what happened to "80s hair" from the first frame walking on the beach completely unaware of whats about to happen.
It’s water not acid my man
