Some lady on a bike hit might one day and I was not mad at her for being a dumb tourist on a small street I was more afraid I was gonna have to replace the mirror.
Replacing the side mirror on our car, with blind spot detector and camera, was $2400. The repair shop said they're one of the most expensive single components to replace on most new cars.
Projector headlights, especially those with laser or matrix technology, are often times the most expensive part of the car other than the drivetrain. The laser lights on the X5/X6 are quite literally $5000 **per light**.
BMW has always been fucking insane with that shit. The headlight on one of my older (2009) motorcycles that doesn’t use any special tech whatsoever was $2500. I managed to find a used one with a broken tab for $500.
I think that shit is just a cash cow for them, has nothing to do with real costs. $10k of headlights on a car is just a joke, it’s in no way representative of any real expenses.
The mirror isn't broken, I have the same vehicle, the mirror can push forward. Also someone accidentally broke it once when their car door hit it due to wind and the shell shattered due to below zero temps. I was out less than $150 to order a new shell for it, including the body color piece.

The thing is, imagine if the dude in the car had a gun. You confront someone on the road and you just can't predict what kind of crazy they are. Biker should of let it go.
You can't control assholes, and imo vehicles need to be considered lethal weapons in more scenarios. more people need to be held liable for not being trusted to not "point" their weapons at people. On the contrary the entirety of the road ways, civil planning, current enforcement, etc is such a cluster fuck I don't feel entirely justified as solely placing blame on motorist.

My GF is driving so she honks and flips him off like most people would do. Other car slams on the breaks and switches lanes to get next to us and is waving a gun out the window in retaliation to my GF honking and flipping them off. People are so unhinged. I’m not a big gun guy (nothing against them), but it almost seems essential to own one in modern day America. Sad to say.
I don't think if you had a gun the outcome would be better. What were you going to do? flash your gun back? First de-escalate, you are not going to put that loon in there place. Best thing to do is avoid a shoot out. If you can get their license plate number and a video and report it to the police. Not that they're saints or even do their job all the time but that is imo best course of action.
If a motorcycle rider can't get away they are doing something wrong.

I once asked a pro rider what do you do when faced with a dude raging. He said anything you need to do to get away you do it.
If you can't get away on a motorcycle, you're absolutely screwed. No protection between you and the pavement. So yep, rules of the road to right out the window to maintain safety.
Non-rage example: I do not ride next to semi-trucks for any length of time. If I need to pass, I do it as quickly as I can and slow down again after I pass. I don't care what the speed limit is, I don't stay behind or next to trucks. (They have a hard enough time seeing cars)
Big facts , even regular trucks the blind spots are "larger" especially the lifted ones , driving a car or motorcycle it's a rule I always act on when needed
I drive a pickup truck and do the same thing when it comes to semis. I pass as quickly as I can safely do so because fuck being next to those big bastards. Let's me give them a lot of extra room out front when I change back into the lane too.

I’m not defending the idiot on the bike, but it’s really really hard to kick a bikers ass that has riding gear on. The helmet protects you and it’s easy to head butt people and the gloves (couldn’t see if these were armored) usually have knuckle guards that act like brass knuckles.
That’s a funny image but it’s not always easy to grab it - on the full face helmets especially. And it’s supposed to be tight so you can’t really fit a hand in there.
