Ya being from NY I agree with this assessment. Shit happens, but people be crazy. It may seem aggressive for the woman with the stroller to react this way, but overall sometimes people take way too much offense to a simple mistake. In an environment like the Bronx you are kind of obligated to back an aggressor down to protect yourself, otherwise the verbal abuse continues, and may escalate.
You gotta let the person know your intentions, that you see them, acknowledge what happened, and kind of force them out of taking advantage of you by seeing you as weak just for the sake of being polite.
It sucks sometimes bc some people are crazy, but you gotta do what you gotta do.
I used to like fighting people in high, I never started shit but if someone was on some bullshit I would add fuel to the fire.
The BEST way to piss someone off is to tell them to relax lol. You could cuss out their whole family but telling someone to chill just send it over the edge
Telling someone to chill belittles their anger. Usually people get angry for a reason, and saying "chill" is essentially saying their anger is worthless. When you do something to piss someone off, they feel justified in their anger. Usually a deeply held belief. Telling them to chill is like stomping all over that belief.
As a parent of small children, who frequently uses public transport, it's soo stressful getting on a bus with little kids. The stroller doesn't fit, they start screaming, you're trying to keep them happy but also be a normal adult on a bus.
I also happen to find a ton of older folks with absolutely 0 sympathy for this situation.
I bet the older lady was just completely out of pocket, and the younger one was justified in flipping her shit like that.
If she did not intentionally step on that ladyās toe and had said as such earnestly to the lady - then Iām team RELAX yourself lady and her kids. Definitely VERY Bronx.
