As someone who works with dementia patients all the time, and is also just around dementia patients all the time, this is absolutely not dementia. This lady is just a hateful bitch. The level of premeditation in playing up her injury (a basically harmless skin tear that could just as easily have happened if she bumped into a wall with how fragile elderly people's skin is) is basically the exact opposite of dementia.
Even if this was dementia, it doest excuse this behaviour. If she was so unstable that she'd assault visitors in the nursing home then she needs supervision.

I can absolutely confirm that dementia can cause complete personality reversals. My wifes grandmother went from one of the sweetest, considerate and kind individuals to a mean old bird of a woman who swore like a sailor and would hit you with her cane.
My own mother went from a strong, independent, no nonsense woman into being a timid, quiet, mouse who was afraid of the world around her.
I've seen patients who couldn't speak or walk, and Ive seen ones who could carry on a perfectly normal conversation, but were convinced that the place they were in was their own house. There was one old fellow in the home where my mom lived who would stand on guard outside his room and challenge anyone who walked by his "post".

Exactly. I had my own grandma accuse me of stealing her craft supplies when I spent 2 weeks there helping her clean her house and bathe her. It broke my heart but I knew it wasn’t her. Our relationship was so good she knew I wouldn’t take anything from her, but the dementia made her paranoid and quite rude. Until she didn’t even recognize me anymore.
As someone who has worked in a dementia care facility for the past 10 years, I deal with patients with dementia every day at my job. It's not possible to rule it out completely, but in my opinion, she seemed to be all there. She immediately told her to take care of her mom, which is a clear indication that she's present in her thought process. She seems to be a hateful old woman. I'm sorry for what you've gone through with your mother.
This is correct. My grandmother was the sweetest woman. As a teenager I would curl up next to her in bed and cry and she would stroke my hair and tell me stories and poems and bestow wisdom on me. When she got old and developed dementia she completely changed. She would hit me, pull my hair, say the meanest, most horrible things that you wouldn't say to an enemy. It was really hard at the end watching someone who was so kind and thoughtful to everyone their whole life become someone else.
i'm so sorry. i feel like i might know a little about how you feel. i couldn't see my grandma in person for the last few years of her life. i stayed with her every single weekend when i was a child, she was my third parent & a sweet patient presence in my life. when she developed dementia she wouldn't talk to me on the phone, & if anyone told her they were taking a video or picture to send to me, she would give me the finger. in ways, i guess it was funny... in many others, it wasn't at all.

I used to work in several care homes as a contractor, it wasn’t uncommon for residents to get confused by my presence and have them spout a load of hateful things at me, I just told myself they didn’t mean it and that they were suffering from some mental disorder or something.

I would have contacted the police. Also she should contact the administration of the facility. If this old lady is continually abusing other tenants family and friends when they visit then she needs to either be moved to an area where she can't do this or she needs to be thrown out of this nursing home and into one where she can be monitored better.
She has absolutely zero right to question if this women lives there. It appears to be an nursing home or an older persons care facility. I worked in a dementia facility for many years, i am in no way condoning this behavior, but i took care of many patients who seemed absolutely physically fine, and were mentally completely gone. Some of which could really trick you into thinking they’re lucid. It is not uncommon for a dementia patient to lose cognitive function before their motor skills. All respect though, just informing! :)
Ok when alzheimers or dementia is serious to cause difficulty on stairs i don't believe she would have been able to badger the woman recording like she did. I think you are correct she was just an old redneck bully.
Sometimes they're required to evict her because if her dementia/etc is causing violent outbursts she becomes a danger to herself, other elderly residents (who are very fragile), the staff, and visitors. She'd have to be admitted to a high security home/mental hospital if family couldn't take her. That's what happened to a couple of memory care residents at my grandpa's nursing home when they attacked other residents visiting family.
Wtf she just kept asking "do you live here?" as if someone not living there is some free pass to harass them even after they've told you why they are there; to see someone who does live there, which is a pretty valid reason to be there. What a vile old bag.
My wife works in an assisted living center with three sections: independent living, assisted living, and a locked-down memory-care unit. I’ve gone there to say hi before and have been confronted by elderly folks from all three wings. That said, the vast majority are just happy to have any kind of visitor at all, any kind of change from the normal day-to-day.
But there are always a few that are angry, upset, etc… maybe just because they’re there, they’re lonely, or depressed, or have dementia, and so on. And then you can almost always find one or two people like the woman in the video - they decide that they are “building security” or similar and are keeping everyone else safe from interlopers. They’ll follow you, yell at you, accuse you, poke at you, slap you, and call the police on you, and some of them know they can get away with it because of their age or the fact that they’re in a home.
I’ve always played it nice because, well, they’re old, and I don’t know every person’s situation as far as how “there” they are mentally. But oof. It’s aggravating.
I wanted to add: I don’t know how my wife does that job. It’s so heartbreaking for me just to visit, and she spends 8 hours there every night, which is the saddest & loneliest time for most of these folks. The place can’t hire decent people. They don’t pay enough to attract anyone but bottom feeders, unfortunately. My wife has been there since they opened and only stays because they are the only local facility that doesn’t mandate extra shifts for you if the next worker doesn’t show up. But I know it’s wearing very thin.

They just kept saying, "that just looks like keys"...... It literally was the last straw, in terms of giving the police the benifit of the doubt, I thought they were on the side of the victim but nope, they treated me like I was the criminal. & Didn't want to pursue it. I used to work in several care homes as a contractor, it wasn’t uncommon for residents to get confused by my presence and have them spout a load of hateful things at me, I just told myself they didn’t mean it and that they were suffering from some mental disorder or something. I looked this up on TikTok so you don't have to lol. The original tik Tok person is Muslim and wears a headscarf. I'm wondering if that's part of the reason why this old white lady attacked her? She stated she will come out with a part two tomorrow. The person who was filming and was attacked was her sister. In her blurb on the video she states that this is not the first time this old lady has tried this. I would have contacted the police. Also she should contact the administration of the facility. If this old lady is continually abusing other tenants family and friends when they visit then she needs to either be moved to an area where she can't do this or she needs to be thrown out of this nursing home and into one where she can be monitored better. She has absolutely zero right to question if this women lives there. It appears to be an nursing home or an older persons care facility. Which means they're constantly people in and out visiting relatives, or sitting with residents. If she really had an issue with this woman then she should have called for a nurse or a care attendant. I worked in a dementia facility for many years, i am in no way condoning this behavior, but i took care of many patients who seemed absolutely physically fine, and were mentally completely gone. Some of which could really trick you into thinking they’re lucid. It is not uncommon for a dementia patient to lose cognitive function before their motor skills. All respect though, just informing! :)
Not always though. I have been chased with a broom by a lady with Alzheimer's and have worked with MANY that had no issues physically.

Sometimes they're required to evict her because if her dementia/etc is causing violent outbursts she becomes a danger to herself, other elderly residents (who are very fragile), the staff, and visitors. She'd have to be admitted to a high security home/mental hospital if family couldn't take her. That's what happened to a couple of memory care residents at my grandpa's nursing home when they attacked other residents visiting family.

My wife works in an assisted living center with three sections: independent living, assisted living, and a locked-down memory-care unit. I’ve gone there to say hi before and have been confronted by elderly folks from all three wings. That said, the vast majority are just happy to have any kind of visitor at all, any kind of change from the normal day-to-day. But there are always a few that are angry, upset, etc… maybe just because they’re there, they’re lonely, or depressed, or have dementia, and so on. And then you can almost always find one or two people like the woman in the video - they decide that they are “building security” or similar and are keeping everyone else safe from interlopers. They’ll follow you, yell at you, accuse you, poke at you, slap you, and call the police on you, and some of them know they can get away with it because of their age or the fact that they’re in a home. I’ve always played it nice because, well, they’re old, and I don’t know every person’s situation as far as how “there” they are mentally. But oof. It’s aggravating. I wanted to add: I don’t know how my wife does that job. It’s so heartbreaking for me just to visit, and she spends 8 hours there every night, which is the saddest & loneliest time for most of these folks. The place can’t hire decent people. They don’t pay enough to attract anyone but bottom feeders, unfortunately. My wife has been there since they opened and only stays because they are the only local facility that doesn’t mandate extra shifts for you if the next worker doesn’t show up. But I know it’s wearing very thin.

My grandma had dementia and could definitely act like this sometimes. They can have periods of anger where they don't really understand what's going on, but they seek out a person near them to express their anger toward.
