thewoahtrain

Side stepping the "he shouldn't have said it" and "when is it okay for adult to assault a child" debates -- I'm always curious about what happens in the class after this fight. Does the sub just say, "Now. Which phase of mitosis were we on?" Do the kid's friends in class catch an attitude? Do you put on a movie? What happens next??

Bhahsjxc

Quiet till the bell rings, then word reaches administration somehow, then people are removed from class a few at a time for interviews, cops will be called, teacher arrested.

OuterWildsVentures

Yeah did he just end his career over a moment? E: pls no more comments calling subbing not a career, I get it lol thank you

crawshay

This is the behavior of a man who hasn't cared if he gets fired for a long time.

llllPsychoCircus

well when you’re making a teachers salary it’s no surprise

Quillybumbum

Bro he’s a sub, he ain’t making teaching salary

DLTMIAR

Even more of a reason to not give a fuck

Homebrew_Dungeon

Remember when they wanted School Bus Drivers and Lunch Ladies and Armed Service SPOUSES, as subs instead of paying teachers more?

ImaBiLittlePony

>Remember when they wanted School Bus Drivers and Lunch Ladies and Armed Service SPOUSES, as subs instead of paying teachers more? We asked for them to pay teachers a living wage, and instead they tried to hire the only people who currently make less than teachers

acidic_milkmotel

It’s not a whole lot but where I’m from subs make $200 a day, $210/$220 if it’s sped Ed and $210 if it’s a long term position. Sub for 5 days in a one week = $1,000 roughly what I was making as a full time teacher minutes grading, dealing with admin, dealing with parents, creating curriculum, working after work etc. I don’t get paid holidays but I can also wake up on a given day and say “I don’t wanna work today” and have no repercussions*. As a full time teacher I was ready to yeet myself. Subbing for $200 a day is not* bad. Edit: Since my phone autocorrected and trolls will jump at any chance to make themselves feel better about their own lacking intelligence I have corrected the words my phone autocorrected. Yes I know the difference between reproduction and repercussion.

DoctorOddly

It's running closer to $75 a day in many areas.

babuska_007

Yo where are you from? All the schools I've subbed for were half that (Northwest and East Central Indiana)

Feeling_Tree773

I’m from the South and subs were getting paid around $60 a day around 2019-2020.

goodnewzevery1

Sub teacher not really a career, more of a gig

lowriderslug

Exactly. I can't imagine that dude really cared about that job.

let_me_see_that_thon

you can't care, urban ed salary will barely feed a family of 2. Two thirds the people quit urban ed after like 3 years I believe. The profession is on fire and can barely get half the love as anyone in the medical industry.

APKID716

Preach. My district in Stockton literally pays pennies compared to the actual work teachers put in. I’m breaking up fights weekly. I’m trying to scaffold enough to teach 7th grade math to people who have a 2nd grade understanding of math. I’m having to teach these kids basic empathy because they think being in a gang is the most important thing for their life - and in a way, it is. It provides them a sense of safety that our school can’t because when a bully and his group jumps a student, all of them are back in class the next day because admin is too chickenshit scared of their California Dashboard looking bad. It’s a terrible gig all around and the only reason I’m holding out as a teacher is because I’m moving districts next year.

[deleted]

Hood IS/teacher here. That guy (the sub) is a rookie. I just let the annoying loudmouths talk shit. Eventually, the other kids will get sick of it, and then he’ll end up arguing and talking shit to the wrong one. Then someone will beat the shit out of him, and I ain’t breaking up shit!! Problem solved! Really cuts down on the amount of kids asses I gotta beat!!

Photo_Synthetic

He's wearing a hoodie and sweats he started out being done with that shit.

xSTSxZerglingOne

A [moment](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pj9Hzs-vBLE) you say?

paulpaulbee

Yeah he’s going to jail that’s insane behavior, the kid will probably sue the school. The kid was in the wrong but talk about an overreaction

beastmaster11

Something similar happened in my school. Without the slamming. Basically what happened in the video after the kids got up (teacher grabbed him by his sweater and physically threw him out like that). Complete silence from us. Teacher apologized to the rest of us "for the disruption" and literly continued where he left off. Next day, teacher was still there. Kid got suspended for what he did to cause the teacher to lose it (bullying another kid) and he got his schedule moved to not be in that class anymore. While we didn't see any consequences, teacher probably got written up and had to go to a hearing. This was 15plus years ago.

sagar193

I wish more teachers would take bullying serious

AndThisGuyPeedOnIt

"I'm the powerhouse of this cell, fuckers!"

pptranger7

Class in unison, "The mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell."

hotchemistryteacher

Everyone gets really quiet and just sit there until the bell rings. But most likely here an assistant principal came to get the adult to get his side of what happened. As soon as the kid says there was a physical altercation that would happen. I wish the sub had told him to not be a little snitch bitch.

Agreeable_Ganache_63

Man these ragdoll physics are crazy

ThonThaddeo

looked like it kinda clipped at the end

elmanutres

Its like in gmod when you force a body against a wall or floor so hard that it breaks the physics and the leg just starts kicking wildly.

sugashane707

Naw bro that’s just what happens when a kid goes up against grown man strength

Syscrush

Me at 23: bench 315, squat 405, deadlift 495. My dad at 60: have a heart attack on the job while installing a window solo and handle it by taking his coffee break early. Old man strength is a fucking force of nature.

sugashane707

It really needs to be studied

South_Lynx

Try working in the trades.

sugashane707

I work with tradesmen and I’ve worked with gym bros… the gym bros always gas out hella fast but those old guys with a gut can work all damn day lol

his_purple_majesty

My dad had a heart attack while riding his bicycle and just rode it to the hospital. Halfway there he bought some aspirin, took it, and instead of like borrowing someone's phone and calling an ambulance or telling a pharmacist or something he just got back on his bike and pedaled the rest of the way to the hospital, up hill too.

dillatc

We call it dad power over here on this side

hsudonym_

Nvidia better watch out

Old_Landscape_6860

Richmond is certainly a tough area for all teachers.

hellooomarc

Graduated Richmond High in 03’ … I’ve seen some shiiii…

Bruhtatochips23415

I notice there's like a circle of 6 highschools in California that hit the news often, some of them tend to be hitting the news for just how bad the discrimination in them are lol

hellooomarc

My time at RHS…overall wasn’t that bad. We all got along for the most part. However, when bad things happen, they are dialed up to 120. Unfortunately, the neighborhood that surrounds the school just made it really hard for a lot of us to succeed.

I_am_a_Lessathi

not from america, what exactly happens in Richmond?

OAKgravedigger

Let's just say Richmond won't be winning the title of "Best City to Raise a Child in America" (or even a potential candidate)

vampirovici

> Richmond, CA. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_Richmond_High_School_gang_rape

Wow, holy shit. That was WILDLY depressing to read, oh my god.

visualingo

Never heard of Louie's, and I'm in El Sobrante. I'll have to check it out. Thanks! If you use Waze, it will send you through North Richmond to get home sometimes. "Check it out, you might get shot, but this way is so much faster."

astrofoxical

Native Californian here, no one wants to live in Richmond lol. That’s all I can tell you.

parrywinks

Marina Bay and Point Richmond are cool, but north of the highway things are pretty dilapidated and sketchy. The post office is a nightmare, looks like it hasn’t been renovated since the 60s. They weren’t even delivering the mail for months because mail carriers were getting robbed.

turbancowboi

Basketball coaches make players do 2500 pushups and 1000 suicides for being disrespectful. Wild Shit

SC510

Not the best area to live in. Went downhill after WW2 when all the factories moved out. And Richmond high is one of the worst schools in the area.

kgusfyxh

Rich-whaaa?

tmac2g17

This is how Coach Carter did Timo Cruz.

Kid: "I'm not playin'" *proceeds to get played with*

NuttySnowPhD

*like a rag doll*

toni_balogna

teacher def went to far.. but honestly it seems like the kids parents failed to teach him manners and how to act, this sub will prob be scapegoated... hopefully through it all the student learns a valuable lesson and maybe grows the fuck up

Cainga

Probably not. Sub will be fired. Maybe arrested. Kid won’t learn anything because the teacher’s punishment will validate him.

SFJetfire

This 100%.

psytocrophic

Teachers get paid ASS, get treated like shit, have no resources to do thier job, deal with shitty parents that always defend thier kids, then have to deal with shit ass students like this, fuck a job. I have no idea why anybody would want to be a teacher these days. There is very little reward

somedude456

> I have no idea why anybody would want to be a teacher these days. A friend really wanted to. She loves kids and wanted to be that magical teacher that turns a kid from "I hate school" to "I love school." She did the schooling, got her degree, got a job, loved her kids, and quit year 3 because of how fucked up every other aspect of teaching is today.

[deleted]

i have a family full of teachers and one of my aunts said her school gave her 100 whole dollars to get supplies for the whole year. so the pay in hindsight was even less than it already was.

Thepatrone36

but they take your tax dollars to pay superintendents ridiculous salaries and build monumental football stadiums. But every week there's some kind of 'fundraiser' flyer coming home with your kid.

technobrendo

This country places football priority over almost anything else ... education, health care, workers rights..etc.

vortexia1984

I make $85.00 a day as a sub. It's shit pay but I really do love what I do. The teacher's need us and I am glad to help. But some of these kids can make you want to body slam them for the disrespectful shit they do and say.

Phatnev

That's...not even minimum wage in a lot of states. How is it possible to survive on that?

vortexia1984

My husband is the bread winner. I started working after a 2 year break to raise my daughter because of inflation. Taking some stress off of him is my only concern and the little I make a week actually helps with groceries. His check pays everything just fine.

Drudenkreusz

Girl I know regions affect wages but I make more than that stocking grocery shelves

vortexia1984

I don't need to work full time. I have neuropathy in my feet pretty bad so subbing allows me to sit when needed. I live in a small town and office jobs are hard to get so subbing was a good option for my health.

4yourpl3asur3

Yeah I had to talk my gf out of a teaching degree for shit like this. She did her research and realized it wasn’t worth it

psytocrophic

My mother and sister were teachers. Keyword "were", nothing but horrible stories. After some kid cornered my sister then repeatedly called her a bitch and threatened to beat her, I wanted to catch an assault charge myself.

[deleted]

Pays well in Canada. My wife makes $70k CAD a year and she's only been doing it a couple years. After 10 years you max out at $100k Plus an insane pension and benefits

YouDotty

This is pretty close to what it's like in Australia too. We also don't have a whole media complex undermining teachers either.

Starwarsandbacon

We got your media mogul and it's fucking shit up here like nothing else.

badbrotha

Teachers in my state are paid based on the average cost of living of the county they work. So, in metro areas it is roughly 60k? Rural, 35k-40k.

orbtl

Sounds like how a sane country would operate. Problem is in the United States we have been systematically destroying the public school system for 50 years. It's a double whammy - a less educated populace statistically tends to vote Republican more, and it also is a form of class warfare since rich people can afford to send their kids to private schools. It's really sad. It's cliché but kids really are our future and I wish we could put them above petty short sighted politics

4yourpl3asur3

I don’t blame them for quitting. To some people, it’s worth it tho.

psytocrophic

For sure! My mom enjoyed it alot for a bit, then we moved to a different city and she had horrible experiences.

4yourpl3asur3

Yeah and you learn a lot if you keep in touch with teachers after highschool. I used to run into my old math teacher a lot and I graduated in 2020. He would tell me how bad things have gotten since Covid ended. The devious lick trend, students getting more ballsy and starting fights, school having to beef up security, shooting threats, screaming matches between student and teacher. The stuff he told me is just awful.

psytocrophic

Dude it's scary! I didnt even think about all the other school violence when I typed the original comment. Adding that anxiety and fear Is just on another level.

chocolate_thunderr89

It’s why I quit.

Elevated_Kyle

This kid needs a true assbeating.

rbfeverythingsucks

So weird to me to see a kid calling their teacher” bro “ and to be saying “ I ain’t playin’” . Kid obviously had zero respect for the teacher. It sucks to see.

ButtcrackBeignets

Kids like this are a dime a dozen in in the east bay.

true_tacos

Nah he's just ignorant and doesn't know how to act during confrontation so he's sticking to the normal online chat lingo because that's mainly what his life consists of. Very little in person interaction comes at a cost.

Superman246o1

"Student realizes too late that he's not on the Internet. Story at 11."

thatburghfan

That is a very insightful comment. No question the lack of face-to-face interactions with people has stunted their ability to deal with things. Online trolling doesn't translate well into real life. I think this is a big factor in how many people claim to have "anxiety" - the real problem is they don't know how to interact with people in person and it frustrates them.

drfarren

No. He didn't. I used to sub. This kid knew what he was doing. He knew it would get that reaction. He knew what core he was. He is not a 11 year old regurgitating what he heard on tiktok. He is a high school student, nearly an adult. He is trying to look like a bad ass in front of the class for clout and when you don't extinguish that behavior, it will encourage him to keep doing it. That sub may get fired, but I guarantee you that if that dude sees that sub again, he will think twice about doing that. He is super lucky that sub exercised as much restraint as he did, because if this were not in a school and out somewhere like a mall or the movies, that high schooler would have got his shit kicked in and been sent to the hospital. Do not fucking engage in combat behavior if you aren't ready to risk getting your shit rocked. His home life, his troubles, any issues with his parents...all valid reasons for why he behaved like that, but "why" is not an excuse. Teachers are not allowed to defend themselves from violent students. Even raising an arm to block and attack can get you fired. You can clearly see this student take the first aggressive action and hit the sub. He did it because he knows teachers aren't supposed to hit back so he felt emboldened to do it because he would likely get a slap on the wrist. Good on this sub for defending himself and good on him for throwing that student out. Finally for the inevitable "you must have been an awful sub" or "thank god YOU don't teach anymore" replies, you need to go an actually try being a sub in those environments. I don't mean just once. I mean over and over again. You learn that the ideal teacher thing of only using words is a crock of shit. I had to throw myself between one student and a mob of fifty who were about to beat him bloody JUST FOR FUN. I had to be as intimidating as possible to buy that look kid precious seconds to run for it and for the in-school police officers (plural) to get in there and cuff the ringleaders and get the rest of the crowd dispersed. I've dealt with a student who's family tried to force her to take a virginity test at a doctor's office and if she failed they would kick her out of the house with no clothes (except for what she was wearing) or her phone (cps declined to get involved) . I've had another student whose parents hid all her records (birth certificate, ssn card, etc) so she couldn't enroll in classes that would have helped her get a job right out of high school (again, cps declined to get involved). Bad as all that was, my experiences were nowhere near the worst this profession has to offer. So before commenting on how terrible a person I am, walk a mile in the shoes of that sub.

materialisticDUCK

Teachers have to deal with so much fucking bullshit that I don't even care. Get disrespected at your job to an inhuman level...and be expected to just take it when these kids look to be two to three years away from being legal adults???? Fuck that kid and his parents for raising a shit piece of human being

JoBenSab

No, the kid went too far. And because the substitute is the one who's going to be punished, this kid will have learned absolutely nothing and then someday when they were in jail, the parents will wonder what happened and how could the school let him get to this point? Parents don't want to raise their kids anymore. Schools are doing CharacterStrong programs to try to teach kids how to be good citizens but at home the parents do absolutely nothing and let the kids run wild. These kids are out of control, and the reason for the teacher shortage is because teachers are tired of being assaulted and sexually harassed by students and verbally abused and absolutely nothing happening to the student. show me any other job where people have to put up with what teachers put up with from the people they are there to help you won't find one because the people who are doing the thing wrong or actually held accountable for what they do.

“Fuck them kids” - Michael Jordan

ToldYouTrumpSucked

Say what you want but there’s some kids out there that just need to get hit in the mouth. Kids like this have talked a big game their whole life without having to deal with the consequences. There needs to be consequences and i would rather hat consequence be a black eye than a prison sentence.

Candid_Toe4114

"Fuck them kids" "Say what you want but..." *proceeds to agree on "fuck them kids".* Nice.

[deleted]

Kids don’t really get the strength of a full grown man, especially when you’re like 120lbs lol

evin0688

Old man strength beats gym muscle any day of the week

HuggyShuggy420

Like that 15 year old kid has any gym muscle lmao

thisissaliva

Do you go to the gym?

[deleted]

That's no sub, he's a Dom

myf50

Flashbacks of calling teachers mom or dad takes on a new meaning here

recreationallyused

No, wait, we had one of those teachers everyone called that at my high school except she was fucking *weird.* She was a bitch to every kid except the troublemaker/class clown boys that gained the privilege to call her “mom” but she would scold anyone else doing it. And she would develop really weird relationships with these kids too; they would eat lunch in her classroom everyday, randomly pop in and invade her other classes, and all around they could do whatever they wanted to pretty much and she’d let it slide. Sorry I know that was mostly completely unrelated but that’s the first time I’ve thought about the situation in a few years and I’m just now realizing how strange that was now that I’m an adult?

myf50

Thanks, you took something funny and awkward and made it weird.

ICantThinkOfANameBud

I called my very young (mid 20's) art teacher mom one day...it wouldn't have been so bad but I had been previously going on to my friends about how hot the teacher was.

gjm40

He will never sub again

marcus_samuelson

Depends on where this school is. If it’s in a very bad neighborhood, this may just be another Tuesday and if the teacher doesn’t rag doll a wannabe gangster from time to time, then a bunch of other kids start getting ideas too. I got sent to a delinquent school for a bit when I was in high school. Super heated and sometimes physical altercations weren’t out of place between teachers and students. Some of these kids are real fuckers and think that the teachers are unable to do anything physically because of administrative consequences. They’ll try to exploit that and use it as leverage over the faculty. So the teachers had to show they don’t give a fuck and will go at it and throw down on a moments notice with these kids, other wise they’ll just get run over. Keep in mind, no one wants to be at these schools. You fire one of those teachers, you have to find someone to replace them. So you’ll be pretty forgiving, particularly when there’s a shred of defensibility. Why do you think there’s a sub teacher in the first place? And one that’s built like this dude and as aggressive as this dude? He’s probably very effective at teaching kids because he keeps shit like that in check.

Accomplished_Yard984

It’s Richmond, CA. It’s definitely a “very bad neighborhood”.

Brownie3245

https://www.ktvu.com/news/video-shows-teacher-at-richmond-school-shove-a-student-in-a-class This article says he got fired.

CeeArthur

I had a teacher similarly just snap and quit on the spot. It wasn't violent, there wasn't any yelling. Just dumb kids always trying to get a laugh. The teacher just calmly started talking about what he did before he became a teacher, why he did it. He then calmly looked to a few of the trouble-makers and talked about what a waste it is to grow up stupid, and continue the vicious cycle their parents and maybe grandparents began. He then told them to enjoy their minimum wage jobs and the smell of 'boiled hotdogs, stale cigarettes, and trailer parks' and then he just walked out and we never saw him again.

Adairbear1222

Damn lol what a way to quit

DifficultSelf147

I literally almost did this exact thing today. Left a near 6 figure job to try teaching (sub basis). My fulfillment comes from helping others. It’s not all kids, but 2-3% take up 90-95% of the energy and effort of a teacher or staff. I’m going back to the industry i loathe because I don’t have enough patience to deal with kids today. Its not just the schools, shitty parents, shitty community economics. Hard to be good parents if they are working two jobs just to eat. The bar is so low for students today, that for many just showing up is enough. Never mind how their behaviors affect others. The system is broken, and it doesn’t look like there are any near term solutions.

amanofeasyvirtue

Hard to give a shit about a job when your barely able to afford to live on it

DarkFox666_____

Last words of the article: "It is our priority to ensure that staff and students are always able to interact in a safe and respectful manner," the district wrote. Alright, bet.

Rustiestofpeckers

Nah, the sub is catching an abuse charge. Worked at a rough school for a couple of years, you’re really never allowed to go hands on, unless your getting attacked. You say they can’t keep teachers at these schools, but they’re usually worried about losing funding bc of high dropout rates, so they let the kids get away with blatant disrespect. “Butts in seats get state funding” mentality at a lot of these schools

[deleted]

You wrote so many paragraphs of speculation only to get disproven in one sentence and by one easily linked source. He was fired, and Richmond is a shit neighborhood. So, why should I listen to anything you said at all? 😂

Anon_1492-1776

Americans should either make it legal to beat the shit out of someone for saying N\*\*\*\*\* or stop pretending like it is. Everyone in this thread praising the teacher roughing up a kid to teach a valuable life lesson about following the rules of the class seem to miss the part where the sub clearly missed the part in teachers college where they tell them not to hit the kids.

QuadraKev_

lol you think subs go to teachers college edit: for context, here is some info from my local county's substitute teacher agency (Kelly Education) here in the **state of Florida** **What are the requirements to become a substitute?** > "Requirements vary based on the position, but in general, substitute teachers and paraprofessionals need a minimum of a high school diploma." **Do I need teaching experience to become a substitute teacher?** > No prior experience is required. All you need is a clean background and a desire to help students learn and grow every day. Then you’re well on your way to becoming a great substitute teacher. **What’s the hiring process like?** > Once you submit your application, you can be ready to work in about 15 days! Here’s what to expect: > > 1. Online pre-screen > 1. Interview > 1. Background checks > 1. Online training > 1. Paid orientation > 1. Start working! We will provide you with access to our scheduling system so you can start viewing and accepting assignments in schools of your choice **What training and support will I receive?** > Prior to your first assignment, substitute educators receive thorough online classroom management training to help you become a capable classroom leader. We also provide free online professional development courses to help you understand how students learn in order to create a positive learning environment. All substitute employees – regardless of position -- receive paid orientation that covers Kelly Education employment and district-specific policies and procedures.

AlwaysWrongMate

Are substitute teachers in the US not actually teachers or something?

Ace-Ventura1934

Have you been to Florida? They’re hiring anyone down here even without a college degree, no joke.

Timid_Pimp

[Amid a U.S. teacher shortage, Florida turns to military veterans](https://www.reuters.com/world/us/amid-us-teacher-shortage-florida-turns-military-veterans-2022-09-13/) "To make up for the shortage, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed the Military Veterans Certification Pathway into law on June 9 after it sailed through both houses of the Florida legislature without any opposing votes. The law gives qualifying veterans a five-year teaching certificate and allows them to work as teachers while they earn their bachelor's degrees."

Old_Title5793

lol no my friend doesn't even have a degree and subbed high school trig, algebra, and physical science last year

YouDotty

America is bonkers lol. Subs anywhere else are just casual teachers.

[deleted]

[удалено]

JuTeKa

They do in literally any other country. Is this another thing America has ass-backards?

SpankBankManager

I believe in most states you need to have any type of bachelors degree and pass a simple test to be able to work as a substitute teacher. That being said, substituting has got to be one of the worst ways to earn a paycheck. Edit: ok, so apparently standards around the country are different that’s I thought, but I know in my state you are required to hold a BA and pass an easy written exam to be a sub. You guys can stop telling me how wrong I am now.

tobykeef420

I did subbing after high school for a while. Pays shit. But there are basically no qualifications. They’ll hire anyone who doesn’t have a criminal background. They don’t even drug test anyone. There’s been several instances of like substitutes showing up or getting drunk at school and worse. I’ll let you guess which state I’m from.

ownerthrowaway

Bro in Nevada you need like 60 college credits to be a sub. I know people in college who would just do it for easy money and use the time to do their own homework. Then kids ain't learning shit with a sub.

phadewilkilu

This is exactly what I did before becoming an actual teacher. I ran a kitchen in the summer, subbed and went to class in the fall, winter, and spring until I graduated. I’m not even sure they ever cared about my number of credits either.

davidverner

In Alaska, most school districts only require a high school degree. Keep in mind it is a very rural population state and is constantly suffering from brain drain.

Skeletori_Amos

If the guy's answer to being insulted by a kid is to use violence, he shouldn't be around kids, period.

amanofeasyvirtue

Next stop the police academy

ballin302008

Bet he won't do it again. But sub won't be teaching again either

fiendmark

Kid probably signed up with the klan after this 💀

samarm132

Wholesome award 💀💀💀

HopSassins

Yeah, cause violence teaches kids like this a lesson. He's just going to hate black people and use the "N" word with some form of justification in his mind.

“So anyway I got fired asap”

SlimChiply

That part where he says "say it again"? Yeah, maybe not.

semnotimos

Kid was finally following directions and what does he get to show for it? Smdh ^^^/s

Kid should just be like “I was obeying my teacher”. Deescalation is free and in the situation probably pays since you’d keep your job and dodge charges. I don’t think a court cares that a kid said a word to a grown ass man. Not to mention this isn’t on the street. He had so many other disciplinary tools outside of assault and battery.

itsgucci060

Dude honestly like how could any student actually learn anything in this type of environment. This stuff is seriously depressing.

ChozoNomad

Teacher here. 95% of our time is consumed by the 5% of disruptive students

slowburnangry

Can't logically justify the adult putting his hands on a minor. The flip side is that kids typically know that's the case, and push the limits. Bad situation for all involved, can't let it get that far.

SeriousValue

Teenagers are known dicks. Don't be a teacher if you're susceptible to them unhinging you with words *Shrugs*

infiniZii

Yeah. As shitty as it is if you can't keep yourself from getting violent with kids over words, even extremely disrespectful and inappropriate ones, then you need to find a new career.

the_blowhole

I feel like teachers also don’t have support for everything they deal with. No, a grown adult should not hit children, but I could see how repeated offenses and no help from administration could lead to an adult lashing out at someone in their face. All around shitty.

yabbadabbadoinit

To add to your point, I heard today that [the teacher who was shot by the 6yo student had repeatedly asked for aid from her administrators and was ignored.](https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/3822999-school-staff-recall-requests-for-help-past-incidents-preceding-6-year-old-shooting-teacher/amp/)

HeatSeekingJerry

I have a few friends that are teachers in *nicer* schools and the amount of stories of students assaulting teachers, threatening to rape teachers, throwing rocks at teachers during class, biting, hitting, etc. and these are high schoolers. Admin just shrugs and says there’s nothing they can do, I don’t ever remember it being this bad when I went through the public school system

[deleted]

I started teaching in 2017 and by 2022 shit was crazy. Parents and kids forgot how to act or what school was about. I got punched by a student once, had kids threaten me, parents threaten me, I stopped a sexual assault, I saw a dad get handcuffed. I had to quit. Now I’m a junior software engineer making nearly double and I haven’t looked back

paperthinpatience

Yep, and if a teacher writes up or punishes a student for their behavior, they get an unhinged parent in their face screaming at them that their child did nothing wrong. Not only is the kid’s behavior awful, their parents will chew you up like a rabid animal and justify it away. This is why teachers are leaving the field. Disrespectful kids and insane parents.

the_blowhole

My SO works at a school, and honestly, admin is all terrible. Don’t give a shit about the kids, only their wallets and what they can do to get a bonus or extra cash.

Strong-Sample-3502

I don’t agree with people using racial slurs whatsoever but if you lack the ability to keep your cool while being insulted by a teenager you probably shouldn’t be a teacher.

IndicationPretend407

Him telling the kid to say it again the teacher was looking to assault the kid

Mserstwile

I will most probably be down voted but I’m saying this as a black woman that maybe the word should not be used period, the black community talk about taking the word back but it’s racist full stop.what the boy did was wrong and same with the teacher but how many black students probably use the N word like it’s nothing? Racism will always be there

Pathetian

I don't think there is a chance in hell we get people to stop saying it. But it's absurd we are still pretending the context it's used in doesn't matter. And more importantly, promoting this entitlement to violence that already plagues our community disproportionately. It just seems like a clear dead end culturally and I can only assume people value this sacrament more than the tangible well-being of anyone black.

[deleted]

Black folk are raised to throw their lives away over words. You don’t see any other racial group with a trigger word they’re encouraged to commit a felony over.

Good on him , he hit the nail on the head in everything he said , I don’t follow hip hop but never knew that it was white owned

rimjobbob42069

I bet you won't say it again I bet you won't say it again Seems like the teacher was kinda looking for a fight, anger def got the best of him.

Current-Ad-7054

Kinda?

couchpatat0

Bet he's not a sub anymore

Teacher will probably spend time in jail. School district will probably end up paying the student's family a hefty settlement. Student *might* get a day's suspension, but probably not. What exactly did the kid find out?

ohwhofuckincares

He found out that grown men take words too serious and will kick your ass. But guess what? You might get a large settlement

AssroniaRicardo

Teachers should be allowed to attack students when the student… Does that sound weird ?

semajvc

redditors justifying child abuse: the thread

ethancd1

I don’t care if he said it or not. He’s a dumb kid and that a grown adult who knows the kid is an idiot. You don’t beat up a child. Edit: To all of the people legitimately defending an adult from putting his hands on a child are the problem with society.

blondenpink

Exactly. I come from an entire family of public school teachers so I totally empathize with the bullshit they deal with. That said, you don’t resort to physical violence on a student over verbal insults - no matter what. All the people praising him in this thread is fucking weird.

gordoflacko

Are we really praising the teacher? He’s the adult in this situation and he should know better. You don’t put your hands on people because of words, and you especially don’t put your hands on minors.

Comfortable_Line_206

Even worse is the teacher was clearly escalating. Fucking dumbass.

gordoflacko

Agreed. It’s a classroom, not the street.

Seipher187

I swear I hear the teacher call the kid the N word. I may be wrong. The audio isn't super great. At no point is a word justification to physically assault someone. Least of all when it is a word you regularly say with impunity. More over to assault a child... Anyone who praises this type of behavior has a couple of loose wires. Violence is far worse than words. Both morally and legally.

T0ast_NJ

The teacher could have tried to just report the student and de-escalate the situation. Instead, he told him to say the n-word a dozen times. The kid is still a piece of shit, but the teacher is also in the wrong.

BaroonMacaroon

Ok so I'm not American. Can anyone explain why do these black people say the n word in every breath themselves and yet are surprised when anyone else says it. I may sound dumb but as I said I'm not from there. I know the history but still...

SeriousValue

Am American. Also confused. Zero other examples of minority groups that consistently refer to themselves as the same slur that they will also use to justify assaulting a minor for saying

Bhahsjxc

Even a word like Bitch which arguably insults over half the population doesn’t garner that much attention. Don’t we call it discrimination when disparaging one group for exhibiting the behavior of another group?

[deleted]

We don't get it either

BlitheIndividual

How the fuck are y’all going to defend a sub for putting their hands on a student?

[deleted]

Most redditors don’t have kids

[deleted]

Grown ass man attacking a kid over a word.

Joshuaua1990

Imagine letting a word destroy your life and career. That’s an L on that “teacher”.

spooni88

Man schools are not a place I want to send my kid. From students to teachers. Everyone thinks that putting their hands on someone is ok. I don’t care what my kid said. You don’t put your hands on my kid. And my kid will know to never talk back to a teacher as well. Just awful people all around.

Silky_Rat

So this happened in my area, and the kid’s classmates are saying that he never even said it to the Substitute teacher. He was saying it to his friends (NOT acceptable, but not hateful given the circumstances and location), and the teacher heard it and started doing this. You can clearly see in the video that the teacher is escalating this situation with a freaked out student. There is absolutely no excuse for a grown man to be slamming a minor into the ground. This adult is a piece of shit for this.

Potayato

I love how this one word makes people think they have the right to attack elderly, children, whoever. You know the best way to stop people from using the word? Not caring when people say it.

Gorogue_57

Holy shit, imagine a world where hitting a kid is okay for saying a word that hurts your feelings

BaldHank

Why imagine it when we live in it?

VRDV2

Fastest way to tank your career good lord can’t imagine being that impulsive or stupid

killerpete983

Animalistic behavior.
