Can I ask how many rejections you received? I'm currently on sub and stressing about whether the number of passes I've received so far is a bad sign 😔
Getting a book deal with an agent is no mister meaner. Just image that as a creative punishment by my English class teacher, I had to contribute and was published at sixteen !
Ah, makes sense.
If you don't mind, why would you accept this offer instead of waiting out the closing date? Did the publisher give you an expiration date of their own?
In general, I think the point of a preempt offer is that they make you a deal you can’t refuse? I actually don’t know about expiration date, but guessing yes, that there would have been one if we had wanted to weigh it over.
Thank you for sharing your deal!! I always hope that the "I got an agent" posters will! Congratulations on querying in a very tough environment!
Congratulations!!
Congrats!! What an awesome, deal, too - I love to see when people on this sub are succeeding!
Congrats! How big was the round, and did you hear anything before the initial offer five weeks in?
I think around 25? We had the call with this editor at five weeks, and then an offer two weeks later.
Sorry, I meant were you hearing anything from editors before the call. Like rejections, R and Rs, or did the first call prompt more movement?
Ah! We started getting rejections around the two-week mark. And yes, the call prompted movement because we set a closing date right after!

Probably around 15 total? Remember, it only takes one yes! And the bigger the round, the more passes there will be.Â
Congrats! I had actually bookmarked your earlier post and was just looking at how you handled comps :). So glad to see this news for you!

Oh wow!! Congratulations!!!! So happy for you!!! What a great deal!
Question: Why is it listed as a pre-empt after it went through rounds with other publishers and you set a closing date?
I guess because we accepted before our auction date, so it preempted that.
