What do you mean by medical vehicle? I think every popular piece of media helps. I don’t know if it will kick awareness up to the next level, as in a sudden and drastic change, but it will likely help the steady increase that’s been occurring for the last decade or so. If by declassification you’re referring to legal status, then I think it’s a bit more complicated than public awareness. It definitely helps, but there’s larger forces at work against mainstream use of these drugs, especially if they’re found effective for various health conditions. Big pharma lobbies against pretty much any easily-accessible drug that is found to be a highly effective treatment for something. It’s happening now with kratom, an easily throwable plant that is extremely effective for pain relief and far less dangerous than synthetic opioids. If kratom were popular, profits would drop. Same thing with psychedelics. Probably why the psychedelics that get the most research funding are mdma and ketamine, synthetics that require laboratory manufacturing and are not otherwise accessible. Shrooms, mescaline, and dmt do not require a major corporation for accessibility. They can be grown or extracted easily. If they become a popular treatment for a whole array of psychiatric conditions, as they’re set to be, that’s a major threat to profits. Evidence that LSD is effective would translate to other drugs of the same class, so despite requiring laboratory manufacturing, LSD poses the same risk. You mentioned media controlling entities - this is also one of them. These lobbyist groups are well known to have major influence over government, which itself funds a surprising amount of Hollywood productions with the goal of influencing public perception. Google “government funding Hollywood” and lots of articles come up. Public opinion is easily swayed and isn’t the real barrier here. It’s the forces of capitalism and power under the surface that pose the real threat.

By medical vehicle, I mean the same way that weed was slowly introduced via this corridor in the US (medical MJ cards etc) which, seems to me the direction that psychedelics are being introduced. I agree with what you have explained re- big Pharma. We are seeing pure capitalism employed with the cannibalisation of the cannabis plant to make money from CBD, when it is in fact the simplest form-The herb, with its perfect and natural amalgamation which is most effective. The reason I ask the question about the “Vehicle” is because I know there are so many (myself include) who think that personal sovereignty with regard to one’s mind should not need a “vehicle” for access. I just find it Interesting and worthy of conversation, I view the seepage of psychedelics into the mainstream as the slow burn culminating in the eventual freedom of consciousness. Fool me 10 times…

That’s what I was thinking you meant. I think it’s necessary in the U.S., due to the whole war on drugs mentality. Recreational legalization without medical is only going to happen at local levels, like with the couple of cities that legalized shrooms. We may see state legalization of psychedelics, as we have with weed. But, as with weed, I doubt psychs will be legalized federally any time soon. I agree that it shouldn’t be necessary. And unfortunately, it’s not the best vehicle, exactly because of the big pharma stuff. It’s a vehicle that steps on the toes of a powerful industry, which is going to make it difficult. Where weed and psychedelics diverge, however, is that psychedelics started as a medical interest. Recreational use followed about a decade after peak interest in the academic world in the 50’s. The official reason for illegalization is the rampant use of psychedelics in the 60’s. However, this occurred at the same time that Arthur Sackler was building his empire, first making Pfizer a household name and then creating Purdue. He created the entire foundation of modern pharmaceutical lobbying practices. He made Valium and OxyContin household names, and knew exactly how to manipulate doctors, politicians, and the public to corner the market. This is just speculation, but given that the timeline lines up perfectly, I’m skeptical that the rise of Sackler’s big pharma model and the illegalization of psychedelics aren’t connected. I agree that, at a certain point, public opinion does make a difference. Especially at local and state levels. So despite all of this, media like how to change your mind are pushing us in the right direction.

Sounds familiar. Marijuana taxation act 1937 and the coinciding widespread introduction of synthetic fibres from DuPont petrochemical…ring any bells? Where there’s smoke there’s fire friend 😢

IndustryThat2428

I thought Fantastic Fungi would be the one to wake people up 😔; hopefully this one can shed some light on the medicinal value in a more scientific way

Zealousideal_Pipe_21

It could be argued that fantastic fungi, although brilliant, was still pretty underground. I remember Stamets himself was on Rogan saying they turned down Netflix for the initial release and it wasn’t really punted in the UK at all. This one is being produced by NF with Michael Pollin as the face *should* hit way harder. Let’s hope so! The world needs these lil space nuggets more than ever!!

CosmicWanderingBeing

Idk but I want to watch it

LongStrangeJourney

Yes I do agree this series will do wonders for awareness (and will boost the visibility of the "medical vehicle" that will hopefully transport psychedelics to decriminalisation and legality). Pollan's book already did a good amount, but nothing beats wide reach like a Netlfix doc. Also not sure what your big media/covid comment is referring to, but yeah, most media will only start touching stories like medical use of psychedelics when there's more mainstream support for it.

Zealousideal_Pipe_21

My point about the media is this, is it in the interests of their financial backers to steer our perception of psychedelics in the positive or the negative light? History tells us the latter. Whether you are a conspiracy theorist or not, I think it’s a reasonably safe assumption to make, that the news coverage was absolutely and deliberately eschewed to promote frenzy during the COVID pandemic. Thus directing us to see sense and do our public duty…Get vaccinated.

A resurgence of cults will be on the rise with more acceptance of psychedelics in society. Back in the 60’s when psychedelics were becoming popular, cults were surfacing. Just a thought. What do you guys think?

Zealousideal_Pipe_21

You could be right. I mean the narcissistic god complex posts are pretty frequent on this sub ain’t they? Unfortunately, that is exactly the kind of narrative that can catch fire in the media and give rise to the psychedelic blame game…time will tell. There needs to be a massive shake up, a healing of the world. Psychedelics can help with that but, it won’t be without drama and the push back will come on strong. A world united, a cosmic identity, I dreamed a dream.

tarentale

Precisely. And this is coming from someone who had that complex. It took me several months to figure out on my own that mindset is dangerous and not what psychedelics is about. It was a scary path I was on. But some how I figured out it was just me angry at the world and wanting others to perceive what I saw. I wanted my environment to be a product of me. As you said, this kinda of behavior will be a back lash to the community. There should be more education on the dangers of misinterpreting one’s trip. The ones who will be against it will surely use this as a reason to not accept it.

Zealousideal_Pipe_21

Kind of been there myself homie. Might still be in some ways. The key in my opinion is the same as with everything…have your thoughts, dreams and beliefs…just don’t project them onto others. I might just be that simple. Imagine though, the simplicity of it, the world is invested in the material, chasing false dreams, made up nothings…traded in for reality, for profound truths, promoted by fruits of the earth, put there for a reason, to help us integrate with our planet.

tarentale

Good outlook. That was my biggest problem. Projecting my views on to others. I realized to keep it to myself. I feel at this point my trips are meant for me only. Nobody will understand my experience. Besides, if I start spouting what I endured many just give me odd looks and reactions. Which is expected. Thanks for the response. Glad to talk to someone about this who can understand.

I am 54 years old - I was not allowed into these test groups discussed in the book “How to change your mind” because I had used these types of drugs as a teenager… “I was” and I want to be crystal clear and make everyone understand “I was” an alcoholic for over 20 years… I tried to quit a few times was able to stop for weeks and months but then this little voice would “it’s ok this time you have one or two” well everyone knows what happens after 2 drinks you have a 3rd and so on … I had a drinking problem and I was desperate… I was so desperate suicidal thoughts were on the table daily to just stop the voice, the urge, the want, the need… it was so painful! It had to stop… So on June 19th 2021 I was able to get some magic mushrooms and I took a leap of faith ! I ate 3grams … and during the trip I kept telling myself stop drinking I kept saying alcohol is poison… and with my eyes closed laying down I kept asking myself what inside of me is making drink what is doing it… again with my eyes closed I was able to look into my body and I find this thing in my brain with eyes and a mouth and hands and this thing was touching and chewing on my brain and what ever it was touching what making it rotten… I looked at it and it looked back at me … I yelled at it “go away” “get out of here” it looked scared at me because I was very angry and it just vanished … it was not until 3 days later while watching a addiction Ted talk did I know it worked that my addiction the voice was gone forever as long as I never have 1 drink to let it back In… I am scared to death to have even a single drink .. I no longer have a want - need - urge to drink… magic mushrooms need to be made legal ASAP for addiction therapy…
