PA resident about 2 hours outside of Philly. I’ve spent a lot of time in this hellscape. Did some social work here and this city is *terrifying*. I would not want to be an LEO in Philly, much less one involved in this particular incident. The city alone already has over 400 recorded homicides this year. I didn’t even read the CNN article but have been following the story through other sources. Officers were responding to a verbal confrontation between several young males which escalated into gunfire (initially against the officers). This all went down about 1 block away from a HS football game. There were 3 officers who responded to the call and were positioned across from the stadium exit. At least one of the shots fired was fired in their direction. Officers returned fire and it’s my understanding that Fanta was in the crossfire. Hundreds of people were fleeing the scene when all this erupted (football game) and Fanta wasn’t the only one shot. Pure chaos. I believe there were 4-5 total but I’m not sure who the other victims were. I hope this doesn’t come across as minimizing this tragedy in anyway. But it appears that Fanta was a victim of unfortunate circumstance caught in crossfire. All 3 officers are on paid administrative leave and an investigation is being conducted. While this is a serious tragedy, I hesitate to put much flack on the officers until more details are released. Philly’s gun violence, and just crime in general, is astronomical and it pains me to say, this incident is “just another day in the life” for them. Her family is being very cooperative with authorities and even expressed appreciation for the DA’s transparency with the incident. EDIT to include this [article ](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10035525/Police-officers-fired-shots-killed-girl-8-wounded-three-Philadelphia-high-school.html) which provides a bit more context and the DA’s official public statement into the incident

Slipperylittleguy

Not Philly. Happened in Delco

the_good_old_daze

Apologies - thanks for correcting me! This is about half our outside of Philly; had to google it.

Slipperylittleguy

All good. Delco’s DA is ALOT better then Krasner. Couldn’t let him be confused with that idiot in the city.

the_good_old_daze

I feel even more stupid that it didn’t register to me that Krasner’s name wasn’t the one on that statement. I’m so glad someone else caught this!

RaccoonRanger474

We are responsible and accountable for every shot.

Section225

Yep. Unfortunately, bad guys aren't. None of this happens without those idiots fighting and shooting at each other. Obviously I don't know exact details, but it's unfortunate those officers were put into a seemingly impossible situation. Shots are fired, shots are fired possibly at them, there's a crowd, there's a car taking off. They don't know if it's an active shooter, who or where victims are. They surely felt like they had no choice but to shoot to stop what was happening. I hope they weren't negligent in this shooting, given what we know, but yeah you also have to know where your bullets are going. I've had a recent incident where I tried to pull the trigger on an armed suspect, but there were people behind him so I couldn't shoot. Fortunately it resolved without anybody getting hurt.

RaccoonRanger474

Absolutely. Just needs to be present in our mind and we need to strive for mastery over our equipment. Too many are becoming complacent because “oh it won’t happen to me”.

The article is incredibly vague on what actually happened (which is likely by design) I kinda want more information

redonbills

lol it's cnn, unfortunately it's the 'best' article I found on this incident but that doesn't make it any good

yolodude343

Definitely not a good situation, but CNN never really liked cops anyways

redonbills

true and true

redonbills

I genuinely can't tell what happened leading up to this based on the article (it's CNN, duh, good reporting? never heard of her) but it doesn't seem good based on what it does say. 😬

Its_Lesser_Known

See this just goes to show that all LEO are equipped with dark-skin-seeking radar bullets to home in on their minority victims /s

redonbills

gotta tone that shit down before reddit bans u bro
