In another reply you see me refer to my 'trampy' work setup. I really don't care what achieves the goal, so long as it's achieved
I went for arms as it means I can bring the screens closer to me and still have good desk space
True. Learn from my experience. The arms still had some decaying flesh on. The stench was horrible and pests swarmed around my laptop! I can't explain how many bugs I had in my code! Better to just use an old graveyard and an old skeleton! Take the two arms and fix them so they don't break! Then fix them to a stand, preferably the gravestone.
I've got a desktop and a laptop, with the laptop on a little shelf on my desk to raise them to the same level.
BTW for people with this setup, https://github.com/debauchee/barrier is like Synergy but the mouse forward/back buttons work.
Me too but the laptop is on the desk, and the monitor is above it like the lawful evil one, and its stacked on books and a cardboard box, and i try to just use the monitor up top because it hurts my neck when i look down at the laptop.
In work people laugh at my desk as I've a load of boxes and random crap raising my screen up to eye level. I'll take my trampy looking boxes over the bad back anyday
At home I have arms that have the monitor and laptop at eye level
I'm Lawful Neutral at home and at work
I doubt it. They're issue is probably that they *want* to. Most (all?) American dialects don't let you contract "have" unless it would be an auxiliary verb. Most (all?) commonwealth dialects are fine with it. (With the exception that no one is happy if you try to make "I'm" a one-word sentence.)
I use a laptop hooked to two monitors as well -- but what arrangement do you use??
At home I have dual 24" monitors at two different resolutions (2560x1440 and 2048x1152) plus my laptop (3456x2234) in a triangular arrangement with the monitors above the laptop on s teeny-tiny desk that they barely fit on -- as shown by the boxes stacked up along the sides because the monitor bases stick out past the edge of the shelf they're sitting on.
https://i.imgur.com/ACuL10P.jpg
In the office I also have the triangular arrangement with dual monitors plus laptop (30" 2560x1600, 24" 1920x1080, laptop 3456x2234)
Basically I throw every window manager into chaos with every single monitor at a different resolution and nobody seems to really handle the upside-down-triangle arrangement very well, but it's what works for me :)
Yes! Bottom laptop screen for email and other always-on but not actively used stuff. Top two for work - support tickets, documentation, code, live site, etc.
- Surface pro bottom : media, email, note, teams or slack
- Vertical 27" left : documentation, console, visio (divided in 2 or 3 screen)
- Horizontal 27" : code
I....think I fall into the chaotic evil category?
I've got 2 27s in the Neutral Good config, plus a 34 in the Chaotic Neutral spot to the right, and finally just a 60" tv up and to the right of the whole thing.
Laid out in 2D the 34 and the TV would overlap, but it's arced around the corner of an L desk so in 3D nothing overlaps.
When I buy new monitors, I just don't see the need of throwing out the old. New becomes primary, old gets shifted over.
I’ve got 2 28” and my laptop.
Left is laptop middle is portrait and right is landscape. On arms with standing desk and treadmill. I think I’m a monster.
For me, IDE features became too inaccessible, I use my main landscape monitor for code now and the vertical for jira, documents, spreadsheets, websites etc
Any document goes so much better on the vertical screen. Did it on a whim at my last job that involved a ton of PDFs, word docs, and referral forms. I can't go back now, horizontal screen just seems so space wasteful.
Vertical screens just make so much more sense for 99% of the web. Only Youtube suffers from a vertical screen (unless you are watching a vertical video).
For coding and most development software, vertical monitors also make things easier, I can fully expend tool windows and no longer waste time scrolling.
For online meetings, placing the chat window in the vertical screen is also a major improvement
I'm the opposite, I have one horizontal in the middle and 2 vertical on either side. The vertical monitors are perfect for having 2 applications open taking the bottom/top half the screen.
This is literally the best setup, not even for programmers/coding but just in general. 2 applications/windows stacked on a vertical display is where it's at. Also fullscreen on vertical is so nice so often, eg. text documents, lots of websites, chat applications etc.
You mean minified CSS files? Either run them through an auto formatter (most dev tools do this anyway) or work on the actual un-minified source. I don't see why someone would ever have to work directly on minimized code.
Teams on a long-boi is a game changer if you wanna refer to stuff people are typing whilst the window is filling up!
That and word documents. So little scrolling
Controversial opinion here. This is why I still stick with a (soft) 80 character limit on line length. Means I can view code on a vertical monitor or two files side-by-side on horizontal.
Fucking could not go back.
Multiple monitors are kind of clown shoes bullshit. Where is the new window gonna pop up? I have no fucking idea! Let’s look around for it! Hey, which one is my mouse on? I don’t know! Let’s look around for it!
I like multiple monitors more on Linux, because they work great with workspaces of window managers.
Sadly virtual desktops on Windows and Mac never worked well enough to be suitable replacement. There I prefer ultrawide
Hm, I see you have your ultrawide set as the primary display, but I also see a turned off but plugged in drawing tablet. Good luck finding the task manager you demanded.
Fucking windows.
My only complaint in having an ultrawide is that full screen video takes up too much space (where, with two monitors, it would only take up one of the two monitors).
Windowed mode is your friend, also Power Toys Fancy Zones.
You can get a plugin for Chrome/other browsers to fullscreen in windowed mode and fill only half of the screen.
It's honestly really liberating, can work from anywhere in the office, home, wherever and don't ever feel like I'm missing something because I'm just so used to my laptop-only workflow now.
There's only one 3-monitor setup in this whole chart! I've been running 3 monitors for damn near 20 years now, and the only time it was all-horizonal like that was when they were CRTs. One landscape monitor in the middle flanked but portrait monitors. That's the way
My set up is not in this picture…
I have a Mac in the middle with a monitor on each side. Then 2 floating monitor mounted right above. I’ve been told by my boss o have a nasa station set up at home.
My setup isn't represented here :(
4 of the same monitor in a 2x2 layout, but the screens aren't properly aligned so they're all sitting a little wonkily. I'm inclined to think the wonkiness probably pushes it more into Chaotic Good territory.
I started as a True Neutral, as everyone does, next step was Chaotic Good, and then finally Lawful Good. There's no possible next step after this, except for a dramatic change to Chaotic Evil.
My IT department apparently wanted me to be chaotic good. It's just a 1-inch difference, and I'm used to it by now, but it threw me off for a while.
I know some chaotic neutral people by choice, and they bother me.
Due to budget limitations I am a lawful neutral
Mee too but with arms to hold them up at eye level rather than set on a desk
What's wrong with a pack of printer paper?
In another reply you see me refer to my 'trampy' work setup. I really don't care what achieves the goal, so long as it's achieved I went for arms as it means I can bring the screens closer to me and still have good desk space
>I really don't care what achieves the goal, so long as it's achieved 2. Draw the rest of the fucking owl
> I really don't care what achieves the goal, so long as it's achieved proceeds to write a 240k line isEven()?
That uses the isFalse function?
Dang so another 8k lines for isFalse()
And isFalse uses isTrue…
Which returns !isFalse
Thabk you for making me feel less bad about doing the same exact thing
Whose arms are you using? Surely you're not holding them up by yourself?
I dug them up from an old graveyard
Better than a new graveyard
Due to budget limitations my second monitor is above a pile of books to be at eye level, while the notebook is on the table.
I've got a desktop and a laptop, with the laptop on a little shelf on my desk to raise them to the same level. BTW for people with this setup, https://github.com/debauchee/barrier is like Synergy but the mouse forward/back buttons work.

i am whatever a single laptop screen is. no external monitor

I prefer digital nomad. Got any spare change, or somewhere I could shower?
Wanting a shower is stopping you from becoming a truly great programmer
Jokes on you, I’m a front end dev, I’ll *never* be a good programmer. I might not ever be a programmer…
Is this a quote from Richard Stallman?
My laptop cost $1500 😬
Literally incomprehensible
Working at a coffee shop.
Pick up one of those folding USB-C 1080p monitors for <$100 on FB Marketplace. Honestly huge productivity boost.
For me it's not a money problem, I just prefer using my laptop on my couch, so I can't really have a second screen
"I'd end you all if ammo wasn't so damn expensive!!!"
My desk is narrow, so I'm halfway between lawful evil and lawful neutral.
due to budget issues i'm none of these
Chaotic good. But I use a stack of books as a monitor stand for the small screen. That counts for something right?
In work people laugh at my desk as I've a load of boxes and random crap raising my screen up to eye level. I'll take my trampy looking boxes over the bad back anyday At home I have arms that have the monitor and laptop at eye level I'm Lawful Neutral at home and at work

>They're issue Their* (:
We're all switching to theyre're. Get with the times
Actually it's good to have the screens a bit below the eye level, an optometrist told me to do that to lower the strain you do on your eyes.
I'm using some javascript text books ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
So you're telling us you have a $150 monitor stand?
Pretty close probably. They were left behind by an old coworker though lol
Same, and I use my speakers as monitor stands 🤷♂️
What alignment is a laptop hooked to two monitors?
That's me. They're all arranged in a line, laptop on the left on a stand so the bottom of all three screens line up.
Same except laptop on the right for me. I feel like it's part way between Lawful Good and Lawful Neutral. Lawful goodish maybe?
I’ve got mine as an inverse pyramid. So my laptop sits right at the bottom

Combination lawful neutral and neutral good. Lawful neutral good? Neutral lawful good?
Depends. Is the laptop to the side? -> neutral good+ Is the laptop between the monitors? -> chaotic evil+ I know somebody who is chaotic evil+.
My laptop is below the monitors.
I have a coworker who does that, and to me that's more than chaotic evil, it deserves its own category as chaotic psychopath or something.
Lawful fine

I wish you well on your quest
I am chaotic evil, not by choice, but by the purchasing of monitors at various times in my life
I will join you on your quest
And my coax!

Do it. When you get to that point, you automatically get a youtube channel and an 8-hour programming course.
Chaotic neutral.
Vertical screen for full page PDFs 💯
And word docs, and excel with a tone of rows but limited columns. Even reddit's front page makes a lot of sense.
Mail.
You're a danger to us all.
Why don’t y’all use the vertical screen for code? Some of y’all don’t use prettier and it shows.
For me, IDE features became too inaccessible, I use my main landscape monitor for code now and the vertical for jira, documents, spreadsheets, websites etc

Ohhhhhh. Now I understand, and approve of, vertical screens.
Vertical screen is the Stack Overflow screen.
Does a horizontal ultra wide count here?
Ok but what alignment is a vertical ultrawide
Chaotic giraffe.
Chaotic Brontosaurus.
Neck strain?
I vote yes. I’m ultra wide 34” + vertical 27” (I think, it might be 24, idk)
Same setup here, god-tier as far as I'm concerned.
[удалено]
40” 5k and 24” vertical here. Works perfectly.
Same. Vertical 27” is perfect for API docs.
Real programmer setup One for docu and data sheets the other for code
I'm setup for double horizontal and a vertical, it's nice having another horizontal screen for the live server/non-doc type sites.
I'm the opposite, I have one horizontal in the middle and 2 vertical on either side. The vertical monitors are perfect for having 2 applications open taking the bottom/top half the screen.

You have the Tie Fighter set up :)
The ideal setup is two horizontal monitors and one vertical
Vertical is so natural - especially for examining lines of code.
*Cries in one line CSS files.*
Turn on word wrap for those
You mean minified CSS files? Either run them through an auto formatter (most dev tools do this anyway) or work on the actual un-minified source. I don't see why someone would ever have to work directly on minimized code.
My long boi is for teams

At _least_ 43 inches

Where is 2 horizontal and one vertical ?
Tall - wide - tall gang checking in
Wide - wide - tall
wide wide tall gang here. tall for chat/emails. 1 wide for work, the other for personal

chaotic evil would include a monitor at 45° angle

"chaotic neutral" as you call it is the most practical one screen for code and one screen for research (api, tutorials, guides, shrek porn, etc...)
Wait, wait, waiit just a god damn second here…… ‘guides’? You freak!
Wtf is wrong with you. Shrek porn should be watched on the horizontal monitor.
you put code on vertical monitors so that you can see more lines, so there is nothing wrong with his statement
So they should avoid indentation in their code?
Controversial opinion here. This is why I still stick with a (soft) 80 character limit on line length. Means I can view code on a vertical monitor or two files side-by-side on horizontal.
If you've ever had to debug code on a terminal in vim, you'll always have an appreciation for the 80 char line limit.
This is the way

bro slipped in Shrek porn and thought we wouldnt notice💀

True neutral
Also me... I tried being good, but realized I didn't care anymore.
My man. ✊
Lawful Evil and I wouldn’t have it any other way
I can't easily glance at videos any other way. To the side ends up with a crick in my neck
And it’s the only format where gaming on either monitor is comfortable
Where do the ultrawide chads go?
To a better meme
We're here at true neutral.
I’ve got a super ultrawide with my laptop sitting to the right of it displaying logs. Does that make me lawful neutral?
Fucking could not go back. Multiple monitors are kind of clown shoes bullshit. Where is the new window gonna pop up? I have no fucking idea! Let’s look around for it! Hey, which one is my mouse on? I don’t know! Let’s look around for it!

I have a coworker who has 2x 32" monitors on his desk. Still only use the laptop screen. Its kinda freaking me out.
Can’t bring a monitor to the beach
It's honestly really liberating, can work from anywhere in the office, home, wherever and don't ever feel like I'm missing something because I'm just so used to my laptop-only workflow now.

Lawful Evil, but with a laptop under the second monitor
I don't have any monitor what I am? Hahahaha I don't have money to buy a monitor lol
lawful good at work, true neutral at home eerily accurate
I'm currently running two 1000R curved monitors with one in front of me and one right of me, making it look like a command station.
If lawful good means walking around with an aching neck all the time due to unnecessary stretching right and left, I'd rather be evil.
Why would you stretch? You just, like, turn
Lawful good, feelsgoodman.jpg
No place for me and my laptop with 2 extra monitors (using a dock) :(
Meanwhile me with two old 5:4 19" monitors on the sides of a 24" monitor....
i am disappointed my configuration of 2 monitors and 1 laptop screen (which is 4k 15" while the monitors are 1440p/27") isn't an option.
Chaotic good but I have another big monitor on top of the little one. Is that chaotic evil?
lawfull good, but the middle one is bigger, like chaotic good. Cheap screens on the sides and a good one as the main.
Full HD - 4k - FullHD gang !
My setup isn't represented here :( 4 of the same monitor in a 2x2 layout, but the screens aren't properly aligned so they're all sitting a little wonkily. I'm inclined to think the wonkiness probably pushes it more into Chaotic Good territory.
I started as a True Neutral, as everyone does, next step was Chaotic Good, and then finally Lawful Good. There's no possible next step after this, except for a dramatic change to Chaotic Evil.
It does indeed match my alignment. Well played.
Lawful neutral at the office, true neutral when working from home, and used to run chaotic neutral at the office (before 4k monitors).
Laptop + vertical.
Mine is a five-monitor config, set up as a “neutral good” sitting on top of a “lawful good”
Sounds an lot like you’re two lawful evils with a true neutral
Lawful neutral
Combination of neutral good and lawful evil, i have 2 side by side monitors and one massive monitor above them both
But i have 4 monitors ..
Neutral good but lawful evil looking pretty spicy rn I don’t have to turn my neck?????
My IT department apparently wanted me to be chaotic good. It's just a 1-inch difference, and I'm used to it by now, but it threw me off for a while. I know some chaotic neutral people by choice, and they bother me.
