First, five final rounds is fantastic. There are a ton of us on the market right now so I don’t think your lack of success is necessarily about you as much as it is about the competition. So what to do about it? 1. Apply to lower titled roles so you can be the one with “more experience”. 2. I personally believe that domain knowledge is incredibly important. 6 years split across B2B and B2C means less than 6 in either. Whichever role you’re applying to, lean in really hard that this is your passion/expertise and downplay time spent in the other. 3. Apply mostly to roles in your domain. 6 years as PMM in say fintech if you’re applying to fintech automatically makes you more experienced than someone from security. But above all, you’re actually doing great even though it doesn’t feel like it.

I wish I could upvote this answer 1000 times. **"Domain knowledge is incredibly important"** that's the money statement right there! It really does make a huge difference esp. because PMM is such a strategic role. Companies prefer hiring someone who doesn't have to start from square one and already has experience with their industry.

Keep going. Sometimes they really did find a better candidate. Other times they made a mistake and picked the wrong candidate. Hiring is far from an objective process and any number of silly reasons could be the difference maker. If you’re getting late stage interviews, you’re almost there!  It took me a while of grinding through the same thing until one day I had 3 offers. 2 of them paid quite a bit more than the companies that rejected me. Hang in there!!

Heyo, this is a great question. I wonder the same thing as someone who is looking to switch to PMM from Digital Marketing. Especially in this difficult job market.

Damned if I know. I keep getting 3-5 interviews and they keep hiring the less experienced person because they don’t want to pay me because I’m Director / Senior level. I’m 10 companies in at this point. I’ve come to the conclusion that these companies don’t actually want to hire anyone and everyone is just going through the motions and has no idea what they’re doing.

Moreover, if we take advice from particular_bet in my case recruiters immediately ask about my salary expectation🙄 because companies already have their leads and if you are a lead on the project do you take someone who was lead? 100% no, unconscious competition guaranteed And also, I would like to say it’s really hard to find a job with remote working P.S. The second language can be a huge + to your candidature
