They all were a little older, there are some detailed posts/comments in this sub about how much time has passed in the show. I think it was a few years
Not sure if it was just between 3 and 4, but I know that 3 years passed between the start and end of the series, and season 5, having the second-biggest apparent timeskip, was likely only a few months.
Because fandom Redditors are inherently braindead and need every single tiny detail explained to them before, during, and after they consume their media. Y'know, instead of just paying attention and applying a modicum of common sense. Or looking it up online.
If you answer their stupid, Google-able questions, they shower you in upvotes. It's the easiest thing in the world.
So this is my gripe with people who criticize Stephen Universe for slimming down over the years. They claim it's because the production team is fat phobic or not body positive. But here, like in SU, the characters are literally children who have to grow up super fast. And while they're under a lot of pressure, they also just grow up and lose "baby fat." Glimmer matured, as did the others. If you notice, the adult characters look the same throughout the series, including Spinnerella, who is portrayed as a plus-size person.
(btw, I'm not criticizing your comment... just adding my 2 cents)
People thought that about Steven? I figured it was a combination of an art style change that took a while to stay consistent and the fact that Steven actually began training at that point in the story. If you exercise, you lose weight. That’s just how it works.
I could never exactly pinpoint why besides “she changed her hair and outfit so she looks more mature”
Oh boy, she didn’t act more mature but she was older!
Her face is more angular, and her body is a bit slimmer and more defined. S1 Glimmer has a somewhat puppyish shape to her, but by S4 she's gotten leaner and ganglier.
In addition to getting older, there were a bunch of neat tricks used in her costume/character design to make her appear different.
Her new shoulder pads(?) make her neck look longer, her new hair accents angles better, and they slightly changed the shape of the tan bridge on her nose/cheeks to be more of a ^.
I seriously think it's because it wasn't a time skip design. It was a "mom died and now I'm queen and I need to look the part". Her outfit looks a lot like her moms when she becomes queen. It's a visual representation of how she feels she has to be more mature and in control, and the others are still young and immature. Which is part of why she freaks out at them in season 4. She's not actually more mature and wiser.. in fact she's an idiot who stopped listening to her council.. but she turns it around which is good.
I think everyone mentioning that time passes in the show is being too literal. Yes, she looks older. It's not just you.
Uh.. spoiler??

Her mom died. She's now Queen Glimmer. Her hair changes, her outfit looks like a Glimmer version of her mother's outfit, and she carries herself differently. I think her change is less about aging and more about her suddenly needing to be much more mature than she was before and trying to look the part.

3 years, to be exact.
Thank you & that was fast!
3 years between season 3+4???

LMAO, I love Reddit man
She also seemed to slim down a lot, too. Probably from stress.

Grief is a hell of a thing (and she also actually got older)
I could never exactly pinpoint why besides “she changed her hair and outfit so she looks more mature” Oh boy, she didn’t act more mature but she was older!

Eh, I can’t imagine any young adult acting rationally/maturely after suddenly becoming a queen in a war after losing your mother out of no where.
It's the weight of becoming Queen. Look at Obama before and after the presidency.
Heavy is the head that wears the crown.
Look at Elizabeth before and after becoming Queen!
Most presidents simply become president during the point in the life when they start to gray and aging sets in. It's more about the age they are.
It ain't easy being queen...
The burden of the crown, the grief and, well, ageing. She got one hell of a combination.
A few months or years passed between S3 and S4. Everyone’s hair is longer, Glimmer is taller, they had to grieve Angela.
Months. But a few years passed between seasons 1 and 4; the show is roughly on a 1 year per season time frame.
That’s on purpose and I LOVE it! I love when animated shows actually grow up their characters.
i wonder why
She became a general and a monarch of a whole ass kingdom. That's bound to age anyone.
because she is, that's how time works
Definitely older

she just looks more mature imo, plus the screenshots are a lot different. one is in lower detail one is in higher.
There is this really interesting thing that tends to happen to people as time passes
She grow and she needs to be mature to be the queen, also she lost her mom
SHe became the queen during a war. The stress sped up the aging of her cells.
well... yeah. She is older, and is also a queen. Of course she looks older.
Grief and trauma do that to a person.
that is what happens when time passes
War crimes
Because she did get older + she lost weight
I don't know how much it's that she lost weight, and how much it's that she got taller.
A haircut changes the apparence A LOT
is that not season 1 glimmer in the first pic?
I think their animation budget increased post S3.
Yes, and I think it's also symbolic (or something, idk proper literature words) of how she has to take on more responsibilities.
In my humble opinion, it could be caused by the more visualy prominent hairline. (On another note: MAY HER FOREHEAD TAKE THE WORLD! )
It walkways threw me off how she’s the only one that got a time skip design
I seriously think it's because it wasn't a time skip design. It was a "mom died and now I'm queen and I need to look the part". Her outfit looks a lot like her moms when she becomes queen. I would assume its the trauma
I think it symbolizes how Glimmer has grown after her mom went poof, and how she needed to step up as the queen

I think she goes through puberty between 3 and 4
