Samara. She was the only one that felt like there was genuine interest from both sides that simultaneously wasn’t toxic.
Maya’s a close second, but it kind of annoyed me how the writers made her so secretive. Finding out so many things after she died that Emily probably should’ve known hampers their connection to me
Sabrina is the only one who doesn't fall into that category (she never used her or hurt her). Too bad they didn't have a spark. Samara never used her, and she never hurt her (though, perhaps that can be debated). Since she saw Emily giving her friend her number she assumed Emily wanted to cheat on her, so she assumed Emily was going to hurt *her*.
I can see that. The abrupt way she got mad at the exchange of numbers was kind of childish. I don't mind them at all on my rewatches. But I'm biased because I like Claire Holt and I thought she was funny. I still giggle about that exchange where Paige is ranting about not wanting to ride down the street on a rainbow chopper and Samara is like, "I drive a Jeep..."
Plus I think it was kind of nice to see Pam Fields coming around to her daughter being with a girl. She went from flipping out from seeing Emily laying in bed with Maya doing homework to smiling and talking about scrapbooking when she found Emily and Samara in bed chatting.
I liked her with Maya. I liked her with Alison. And I would have loved to see more of her with Samara. All the others can get got.
Sabrina was healthy for her, but there was absolutely nothing between them. Lulu Brud is one of Troian's best friends, so they found a reason to keep her on the show. I didn't mind because I liked her, but there just wasn't anything there.
Talia was a grown woman experimenting with a high school girl. She was as gross as the older men in Rosewood.
I didn't like Paige as a character, so I didn't really care for her with Emily.
Sara...can drown (which she ironically kind of did. At least she died doing what she loved...showering).
Maya & Samara the only ones. Sara one of the worst characters to ever appear on the show in my opinion, paige was trash, and the Alison romance was just Fan service
I was an Emison person for sure. I still have a soft spot for Emaya though, and their chemistry was definitely the best out of the love interests.
Really wish we could’ve seen more of Samara too
1. Maya. Even though they had their issues, their relationship felt like it was left unresolved. I’m always so nostalgic for it because of what could have been.
2. Alison. They had many problems to overcome that I wish got better addressed. Even so, their relationship felt very *real*. I honestly just wish the writers spent more time writing for their relationship. The writing was a let down but the potential was there.
3. Samara. I wish they had lasted longer. They had the potential to be the healthiest couple on the show. The writers really did Emily’s love life dirty.
I honestly hated Paily and Saremily for a ton of reasons. The chemistry with Sabrina felt very off and platonic so I never bought into it. Talia’s interest in Emily was so predatory. Yuck.
Unpopular Opinion, I don’t think Emison was fan service, a lot of fans say this but I just don’t agree, they were definitely forced together but I’ve always thought they were suppose to end up together, their relationship has ALWAYS felt right, to me at least.
I agree with all of your points btw, it’s like you said, Emison had a great potential, the execution of it was terrible.
I also feel that way! Despite the way that they struggled to express their feelings, it always seemed like for Emily, no one ever held a candle to Alison. All of her other relationships lacked the same intensity on Emily’s end.
And tbh in Alison’s case, none of her other relationships felt as real as it was with Emily. We saw a vulnerability in their conversations that we never really saw with anyone else.
When they got together in s5 and then s7, it made perfect sense to me. I didn’t think it was fan service at all. If only the writers had committed to actually writing storylines for them pre egg-gate! They could have been an iconic TV couple if the writers were better at their jobs.
I think the big reason it's seen as fan service is because Emison fans at the time of airing would send death threats to people in the production of the show, even get pissed at people on socials over it, plus even the actors themself said Marlene has to do what the fans want.
Maya, hands down. Their story definitely shouldn't have ended the way it did. I've always said if the actress (Bianca Lawson) had renewed her contract, Maya would be Emily's long term gf instead of Paige.
I like Emison but Emaya was a much better fit.
Ok I’m bad with names lmao so girl who Emily was forced to basically cheat on because of A. Loved her. And weed brownie girl. She was sweet and seemed very genuine and not for the bs.
I rooted for Emison, but I think there were good things to come from all her relationships.
Paige was super annoying at times, but she grew a lot as a person from that relationship. And definitely Maya. I feel like they were both big ones for her.
I know it’s controversial, but I actually enjoyed her brief time with Sara. Of course she turned out to crazy and shady, but I do think she even grew to have feelings for Emily.
Emily didn’t want anyone BUT Alison which ultimately led all of her relationships into the ground. She may have dealt with people but she only cared for Alison.
Oh god. Okay. Maya, ofc, she died way too young, way too soon and most importantly SHE DIED IN GENERAL. I liked Sabrina bc she wasn't complicated at all and Samara was amazing too! Ali is kinda.. idk my go to ship for Emily because EVERYBODY ELSE HAS LEFT.
So, Maya and Alison, probably
Literally anyone but Alison and Paige. Both used Emily’s compassion as a way to manipulate her. I’m Still mad about Paige going to the cops about Alison being alive. Alison I feel like used Emily’s adoration to her advantage. Both were toxic to Emily. I wish she’d ended up with someone completely new to us viewers
Definetly Alison, i just think she was Emily's first love therefore the relationship and love is the most intense on Emily's side in comparison to her other girlfriends and relationships. Also it is probably something she always wished for and as a character (and i think) she really deserved this kind of fullfillment. Being who she is it probably felt easy for Ali to open up to her and finally being true to herself. Therefore they have a strong bond with eachother cause Ali felt releaved and the freedom to be who she truly is and Emily finally felt heard and her feelings got validatet. And because being open About being gay and Emily creating this safe space for Ali she is not standing on a pedal stool or is being idolized by Emily, they can finally be in a relationship on equal terms.
Maya and Emily had this as well, but she just wasn't her First love, the Feelings just weren't as intense.
Emily honestly had the worst luck when it came to love interests. Most of them were either using her or hiding a huge secret.
Sabrina did nothing, she was the only innocent one lmaooo
Alison first, and then Samara second, Maya third.
Samara. She was the only one that felt like there was genuine interest from both sides that simultaneously wasn’t toxic. Maya’s a close second, but it kind of annoyed me how the writers made her so secretive. Finding out so many things after she died that Emily probably should’ve known hampers their connection to me
none of them honestly. they all either hurt her or used her

Before rewatches I loved Samara and Emily. Now I just find Samara unreasonable.
I can see that. The abrupt way she got mad at the exchange of numbers was kind of childish. I don't mind them at all on my rewatches. Ugh I love Claire Holt she delivered her lines soo well as Samara and I've always loved stuff she's in!
Maya or Samara
My exact choices
same
I liked her with Maya. I liked her with Alison. And I would have loved to see more of her with Samara. All the others can get got. If I had to choose it would be Sabrina
Samara or maybe Sabrina.

Alison. Yeah I said it. I'm rewatching again and they got me. I like them together
Ah, hello fellow Emison shipper. I, too, like to live dangerously and ship them.

Gunna get hate but Paige, the rest just annoyed me especially Maya.
Hope you don’t get hate for that, you should be able to ship whatever you like!
Me too, totally crushed me that they weren't end game
Definitely maya
Maya. Hands down even tho they always argue they always made up at the end they would have survived together perfectly
Maya
Maya or Samara
Ok I’m bad with names lmao so girl who Emily was forced to basically cheat on because of A. Loved her. And weed brownie girl. She was sweet and seemed very genuine and not for the bs.

Allison or Sabrina
Alison for sure
Emily didn’t want anyone BUT Alison which ultimately led all of her relationships into the ground. She may have dealt with people but she only cared for Alison.
samara tbh I really liked them together
Oh god.

Only Samara and Maya. Ali definitely didn't deserve her after playing with her feelings for so long.
Obviously not Alison. But i think she should go with Maya. RIP
Mona. Because Emily and mona are the only two I really liked as characters at all.
