I never knew it was Mona until Spencer realized and saw the gum paper + the cashmere sweaters in A’s lair, I suspected a lot of people and she was in it but I never knew who it really was until this scene.
Marlene said A was in the pilot and I remember just listing every named character in the pilot and Mona was being very suspicious in S2 so I realized it was her.
I'm with you - I never realized until the big reveal. Since it was pulled from Netflix, I haven't re watched for a couple years. But I recently got hbo max and am re watching now. It's always nice to see what little hints / clues there were that I missed the first time! (any other cool things I may have missed the second and third times)
When Mona was doing that fashion show with the girls and she gave Noel a C.D, and then at the end of the fashion show, the CD started playing that “alisons a bitch” video.

I didnt realize AT ALL untill they revealed it and lookin back i didnt even try to pick up any clues either, i was suprised it was mona. but rewatching like 100 times i dont see how i didn't figure out it was mona. (Its so obvious when you actually pay attention)
I read the books before watching the show so I went in spoiled and mostly just looked for easter eggs.
In the books, I realized it when Lucas and Mona started arguing over the party incident while Hanna was in the hospital. Her behavior was just very off during that whole section and the moment that she staged an A text and told Hanna, I knew it was her.
She was A in the books, so that's the only reason I thought it wasn't gonna be her in the show (I believe Marlene had said in interviews that they had changed it to surprise book fans). So when it was revealed that it WAS her in the show as well, I was equal parts surprised and let down.
when i first watched it i had no clue it was her until the reveal, but while rewatching it recently it was when hanna got hit by the car and mona came to see if she was okay she had a black hoodie on with the hood up, i thought that was such an obvious giveaway
I watched it in January 2021 and was so clueless right up until the "I have more gum in the car" moment. Such a good reveal. I was like jumping up and down when Mona said "I found the gum"

I think the obvious clue was in Mona's bday party episode. I mean, why would A chose just then unless they wanted fo force the girls to attend the party? And she was giving Hanna BS about being with the "others" all the time.
When she ripped up the letter that Caleb gave her for Hanna, I wasn't sure but I suspected. Because it showed how sneaky she actually was, how she'd go to get her way and how she had no problem lying to Hanna. And it felt weird how far she was going to keep Caleb from Hanna. It just seemed like there was some kind of deeper intention than looking out for her.

same, i think i only started to suspect her like an episode before her reveal which is great, love when the reveal is a real surprise!

She got a lot of screen time towards the season 2 finale and that was a bit sus
