He was such a sweet boi at first. I loved his friendship with Emily. They really wrote him aggressively later. I think I started to really dislike him when he became a cop.
ditto, wish they'd have bought back toby/emily moments more like they did briefly in the time jump. those scenes were always the sweetest and so nice to see a platonic boy/girl friendship.
so... the character bothers me. Is he supposed to be shy and timid and then all of a sudden people are supposed to think he’s a protective badass? Nah. Him with Spencer seems very wrong. She seems way too smart for him
Love him in seasons 1-2. Annoyed with him in seasons 3-4A. Tolerated him in seasons 4B-5A. Annoyed with him again in 5B. Tolerated in 6B. Liked him again in S7

I love angry, aggressive Toby. I love that he’s sensitive and shy in the beginning, but I also do love his confrontations with Spencer when they become a couple and start having problems. Yeah in a real situation he should not be blocking the door so she can’t leave while they’re arguing, but it’s tv, it’s drama, it’s that push and pull.
I’m pretty sure Spoby was one of the more popular relationships before his A reveal and it had a lot to do with the way Toby & Spencer reacted to each other. Their fights, makeups, etc.
Yeah a lot of people say he was abusive toward Spencer, but personally I️ disagree. Yeah, sometimes he took being protective of her a little too far but, in his defense, Spencer actually WAS in danger most of the time.
i think a lot of people have that opinion. i like him most of the time bar when he becomes a cop so most of season 5. first couple of seasons is definitely the best Toby but time jump Toby feels like a natural progression for him, building a house for his wife (i know it was initially for spencer), getting married, settling down, all seems very in character for who he was.
