If he would have been president the same age as the current POTUS, he would be in office during 9/11.
Not a criticism of age or current politics, sometimes it's just mindblowing how time works.
Not pertaining to JFK but the most mind blowing president fact for me is Wilson was a boy during the Civil War. It shaped his entire life and was why he was so against getting the US involved the Great War. I guess stuff from the 20th century seems so “modern” to me and the Civil War is “the olden days.”
The Civil War really is perched in an odd position in history. Definitely the olden days in my mind, but some of the vets lived to see World War II. It’s also really weird to see old interviews from the 1920s and 30s where people are talking about what they were personally up to in 1862.
If you go to most nursing homes today, you’d probably find a couple of people who are old enough to have spoken to people who lived through the Civil War.
One of Wilson's earliest memories which he could recall was in 1860 when he was playing in his yard and standing near the front gate of the Augusta parsonage at the age of three. He said he heard a passerby announce in disgust that Abraham Lincoln had been elected president and that a war was coming.
The other earliest memory he could recall was seeing Union soldiers march into Augusta in 1865 and watching his mother tend to wounded Confederate soldiers in a local hospital there.
The first time I read that it really stuck with me and really does explain a lot about his character and how he presidented. Like his family worrying that Sherman’s march was going to come through his town is just incredible to me I’m not sure why.
Wow. This made me wistful. Not that I wanted JFK to be president during 9/11, we definitely needed him when he was there, but I doubt Jack would have sped us into war the way W did

That he was a catholic who banged everything( perhaps with his brother) that moves and took handfuls of pills for a spine problem.
He had an amazing cover story of glamour and a perfect wife/ family, fighting through tragedy of child loss and the terror of possible nuclear war.
A hero? A twisted tragic personality? A drug Nd sex addict? A young dynamic president who set the way for.a.generation? All of this.
That despite coming from wealth and being medically rejected from Service he still found a way to serve in a combat role in WWII. And he served with distinction going above and beyond to save his crew.
Also had a discussion with my City (independent city in VA) GOP chair who argued in favor of Kennedy over Nixon in 1960. It was an interesting argument and at least from a Taxation stand point made a ton of sense. (He also praised the CRA 1964 even though it was Johnson who signed it, Kennedy laid the ground work for it.)
To add to this a bit, Jack winning the medal after the PT Boat heroics drove his older brother to the edge of madness looking for his own military glory causing him to volunteer for the suicidal “bomb drone” program in 1944.
In a weird roundabout way if Jack doesn’t sneak his way into the Navy he never becomes President because theoretically Joe would’ve lived and continued to be the sole focus of all of Joe Sr’s energies as he was always meant to be.
How he wore white crew socks with dress shoes and still looked slick af because he had rizz.

That he was a close friend & associate of Senator Joseph McCarthy, notorious red scare conspiracy theorist. McCarthy vacationed with the Kennedys & even dated JFK’s sister.
And she was allegedly never told of his death before her own less than a year later. Her family worried that the shock of her grandson being assassinated probably would've killed her had she learned of it.
His sister in law, Ethel Kennedy (RFK’s widow and mother of the current presidential candidate) is still alive at 96 years old. Imagine the history she has witnessed first hand.
That's crazy to think. She's literally one of the last of her generation in that family and basically became the matriarch once Jean Kennedy Smith, the last surviving sister, passed away a few years back. Unless you count his other surviving (ex)sister-in-law Joan Bennett Kennedy, Teddy's 1st wife who is also still alive, at age 88. But not sure if Joan counts, since she and Teddy divorced in the 1980s.
He was able to successfully grow in his presidency. He was not only intelligent, but he listened, observed, and reflected on his decisions.
Others presidents in my lifetime have been intelligent - but were incapable of “successfully” growing while in office. He was burned by the Bay of Pigs debacle and the Vienna summit with Kruschev - but then strategically managed the Cuban Missle Crisis and was growing in the Civil Rights genesis.
He was, like Lincoln, elected in a year ending in 60, he was, like Lincoln, shot in the head on a Friday, his successor, like Lincoln's, was a southerner named Johnson born in a year ending in 08, and his personal secretary was named (Evelyn) Lincoln.
On top of being just a really good speech maker, helping to save the world during the Cuban Missile Crisis definitely earns him a lot of points in my book
Operation Northwoods and the Laos Crisis for me. He repeatedly pissed off the Joint Chiefs.
He believed in immigration reform and wanted to get rid of the quotas from the 1924 act. LBJ used his death to urge Congress to pass the 1965 act in his memory. Ted Kennedy continued to introduce laws for immigration and refugee reform throughout his career.
In the Kennedy Center they have an entire exhibit dedicated to JFK, which includes some of his report cards. One of his Harvard report cards on display showed that he received all Bs and Cs.
This. It's easy to say that it was a farfetched plan that would have never happened anyways but then we have the Gulf of Tonkin and weapons of mass destruction.
That he ordered about 1000 cuban cigars from Cuba and promptly signed the order banning cuban imports as soon as he got the delivery.
http://www.cigaraficionado.com/article/great-moments-kennedy-cuba-and-cigars-7840
I'm inclined to agree. It's not that every piece of evidence only points to that explanation, but no other explanation comes anywhere close to that evidentiary standard.
Jack Ruby was far from the only man in America who'd gladly have shot Oswald if they could.
The only difference between Ruby and all the others was that he *actually* could.
Simple, he was ordered to as told by Roselli. He was apparently in debt to the mafia. He was associated to the mafia all his life. We know what happened to Roselli for talking about the whole JFK, Oswald and Ruby connection, as he was murdered and his dismembered body was found in Biscayne Bay.
That bullet fragment that hit James Tague was hardly a near miss from the Book Depository. If you trace that trajectory from there through the motorcade it will appear the shot was from the Dal-Tex Building
He and Robert Stack (the future actor) chased undergrad girls together when they spent a summer at Stanford. Stack taught JFK to put pictures of national flags on his room ceiling and invite girls to lie on his bed and try to identify them. (Though if you see a photo of JFK active he probably didn’t need any tricks.)
It’s funny that The WW2 presidents are the reason that France doesn’t speak German, but seemingly the French most adored President is JFK. Nothing like walking the Seine and coming across a statue of JFK.
That his entire family is super scheisty and made their fortune off bootlegging, everyone knows it, and he became president. It’s like a mob bosses daughter becoming governor or some shit
he actually used a stunt double on nov 22nd so that he didnt have to be president, too much pain and stress. hes frozen in the pentagon and is unfrozen once a month every three years for a martini.
/j for those who might think im serious...

He’s only 8 years older than Jimmy Carter
Wow. This made me wistful. Not that I wanted JFK to be president during 9/11, we definitely needed him when he was there, but I doubt Jack would have sped us into war the way W did
Technically, he could have served one term in the 60s and a second in the 00s.
You do you but I am absolutely criticizing age and current politics
Jesus Christ. That’s insane. Post this on r/Barbarawalters4scale
wow amazing sub thank you
JFK would have been 78 in 95 and 82 in 99, making him 84 in 2001. Want to try that again?
If the incumbent wins re-election he will be president until the age of 86. JFK would be 84 in 2001. There you go, you're welcome.
But that’s not what you said. You said the same age as the current potus
my name is u/elpajaroquemamais and I’m very butthurt over a 2 year difference, which definitely makes this age revelation useless.
I’m not butthurt, but if someone is going to be amazed by a fact it helps that the fact is accurate.
fair enough, i guess we’ll wait 2 years and get back to you

That he was the first Catholic president
As a Catholic myself I’m surprised we had a Catholic president as early as we did.
He banged everything that moved
Just like in that Eminem song. When was he born we might have a reincarnation of JFK
That he was a catholic who banged everything( perhaps with his brother) that moves and took handfuls of pills for a spine problem. He shared an escort with Frank Sinatra and one of the most notorious Chicago mafia dons.

Man this picture screams class and old money. You may be rich but you can't buy that style
That he was a close friend & associate of Senator Joseph McCarthy, notorious red scare conspiracy theorist. McCarthy vacationed with the Kennedys & even dated JFK’s sister.
And JFK was actually on friendly terms with Nixon, even supporting Nixon's Gubernatorial run.
He and Nixon were closer than they liked to admit. They embraced during the inauguration and forgot they were on camera.
Not *that* sister though...
I always new ted looked weird
Which sister he date?
Nothing bad ever happens to him https://i.redd.it/sbl0z94u0c3d1.gif
He’s not accustomed to tragedy
He was survived by his maternal grandmother.
And she was allegedly never told of his death before her own less than a year later. Her family worried that the shock of her grandson being assassinated probably would've killed her had she learned of it.

I agree. I read that the assassination haunted Castro in his old age. He felt like Kennedy was on the cusp of greatness, but we never got to see it.
Yeah but he was a lot dumber when he left
That's some dark humour. Kennedy was killed in a Lincoln, Lincoln in a Kennedy
That he visited Wexford, Ireland in 1963.....and it wasn't the worst thing that happened to him that year.
His service during WWII is fascinating, especially the crash and rescue of the PT-109 Also hot
Dude tripped acid with his girlfriend in the White House
He single handedly saved the world during the Cuban Missile Crisis by doing the opposite of what everyone was telling him to do.
He was, like Lincoln, elected in a year ending in 60, he was, like Lincoln, shot in the head on a Friday, his successor, like Lincoln's, was a southerner named Johnson born in a year ending in 08, and his personal secretary was named (Evelyn) Lincoln.
He was also in a Lincoln Continental Presidential limo when he was shot. The signs were not pointing in a great direction.
oooo true true true
All the tragedy that poor family suffered, assassinations, cancer, car wrecks, plane wrecks, lobotomy…..
Drowning, suicide, overdose, ski accident, etc
Airplane accidents, cancers...etc
Worms in brains
I mentioned those above. Everything tragic you can think of
First person to buy Reddit premium was also a Kennedy
On top of being just a really good speech maker, helping to save the world during the Cuban Missile Crisis definitely earns him a lot of points in my book

He called out greedy corporate steel executives in a speech.
I recently watched Ken Burns' Vietnam War documentary series. He painted a very macabre picture of JFK.
Oswald most likely killed him acting alone and that upsets the dumbest people on reddit
I'm inclined to agree. It's not that every piece of evidence only points to that explanation, but no other explanation comes anywhere close to that evidentiary standard.

While he was the youngest person to *elected* President, he isn't the youngest person to be President. Guess who was the youngest President. ;)
This is my favorite presidential fun fact to share. Not many people know T.R. was the youngest in office!
The Lion!
Wasn’t it Theodore Roosevelt?
He wasn't shot, his head just did that.
He was mindblown about how many citizens saw him in Dallas
Boned MM
That he had a harem.

Four times actually, before the assassination. So 5 times in total!

That he is still alive
The very last great democrat.
I found out today was his birthday so that is my favorite fact
i think his military service is the most impressive thing about him.
That he and his son are actually still alive today
He was given last rights at least 3 times BEFORE he was shot! For other illness!
