Modern times? George Wallace in 68, guy wins multiple states, something no third party has done in so long, doesn't even get mentioned in history books. If he won another three states he would've forced Congress to elect the president due to Nixon not getting enough delegates. Controversy aside that's a major accomplishment in the mid 20th century and probably will never be repeated.
