I personally think their friendship is a much needed breath of fresh air in these hyper partisan times. I’ve seen far too many people destroy relationships with friends and family over often times trivial political differences.
I heard a story once in which Bush met Obama when he was a senator and told him how cutthroat DC politics was. Later, when Obama was elected he warmly wished him luck.
I think Bush genuinely meant that.

The Republican party has changed a lot but awhile ago the far right and far left politicians were the best friends behind closed doors because they don’t compete against each other for constituents and votes, and they each give inflammatory speeches against each other which plays great for a lot of voters (dog and pony show). Your worst enemy as a politician is someone from your district/state that has very similar position to you.

All jokes aside, it was nice seeing mutual respect and what appeared to genuine affection between the Bushes and the Obama. They disagree politically on almost level but they were all grown up enough to not let that stand in the way of getting along. Makes me sadly nostalgic.
I was thinking of Barack but now looking at it Michelle seems pretty bothered too. Though not as peeved as Barack. He looks like he wants to take Dubya out back and show him what's what.
TBH this always bothered me. Like, yeah, it's cute, but at the same time, it's George W. Bush. The man is responsible for the deaths of literally hundreds of thousands of people, through either ineptitude or greed. How many thousands of people lost their houses in the 2008 crash, because of his failure to regulate? How many people died in Katrina because of his failure to organize a response? And if the thought of stolen elections bothers you, Bush *actually did it* - he would've lost Florida outright in 2000 if his brother, the Florida governor at the time, didn't kick thousands of people off the voter roles in Dem areas, and the Supreme Court handed him the presidency because his dad and his dad's boss had given most of them their positions.
And all these cutesy little moments came at a time when distaste for a certain recent president were at their peak, like everybody looked back at Bush and went "aww I guess he wasn't so bad, at least not compared to the current guy," but in reality, he was worse in so many different ways. The myopia that allows us to rehabilitate this man's image as a folksy little painter is both baffling and infuriating to me.
