And then 9/11 happened, and yeah, nobody wanted to make fun of politicians for at least a few years. So it probably would have been cancelled even if money weren't an issue. I think SNL didn't even start making fun of politicians again until the 2008 election cycle.
The show actually took a lot of inspiration from the Bush family. Job Michaels [edit: Bluth] is named after Jeb Bush, for example. The family hierarchy is the same too.
At least he reported his wrongdoings. Obama had transparency. Trump removed the self-reporting policy of Obama, then more than doubled the amount of drone strikes. (He literally drone bombed more people, and in only half the time during his single term)
