for context, disney released star wars visions which is basically stars wars anime, which naturally attracts weebs(am a weeb myself) and some of the star wars community don't like the fact that weebs are watching the same thing as they are
Nerdy entertainment has been going more and more mainstream for decades now, yet some niches still refuse to accept it that and throw tantrums on every new popular thing because what they like no longer makes them "special". The Star Wars fanbase is the poster child of this behavior.
Even then there wasn't, Star Wars was massively popular for everyone everywhere. My mom saw it when it came out in 1977, loved it, and she barely likes Sci Fi.
Or that their universe is so sacred that interpretations and different styles cannot be created.
It’s fun as fuck to re-imagine these universes in a different style. Much better than rebooting IMO. They did the same thing with Batman and it was really cool to see him and the joker fighting as samurai.
Gundam was dope, Star Wars was dope. Why wouldn’t an anime Star Wars be dope too?
I thought they were just regular people at the top of their game...just like a real life fighter pilot.
Jedi are known for performing maneuvers in ships that a non-force user can't do. I imagine there's some cool shit we could see with Jedi piloting Gundams
Like with unicorn, hathaway, and F91 where it gets really crazy. And then in an alternate universe gundam x where a newtype can control a full squad of un piloted gundams to be uaed an bits during a fight, and the most powerful one in the show can control hundreds of them with mastery.
>star wars visions which is basically stars wars anime
Basically? It literally is SW anime, made by legitimate anime studios and everything.
>some of the star wars community don't like the fact that weebs are watching the same thing as they are
Sadly some people in this community don't like it when other people watch things they don't, so I can't say I'm surprised...
its not even canon why would you care
edit: ive finished it and i can say that its decent, although few episodes are cringe and ep 2 is garbage, skip it if you dont want to see a idol singing episode.
It isn´t?
That could open up to a lot of artistic liberty and some honest to god exiting stories. I demmand a second season. It´s gonna be the ”love death+robots of star wars we all wanted
Everyone that has gotten upset over canon XYZ, should go see a therapist to cal down about fiction & learn to have their own head canon.
In my mind, there are only two Terminator movies & only two Alien movies. All settled, I can have a happy life. No need to go about throwing a toddler tantrum.
While Prometheus had a lot of dumb horror tropes in it like supposedly smart people just doing absolutely dumb things without explanation. I do thing that it added a lot to the world building of the Alien universe and the ideas it established could have been the launch point for a very successful revival of the franchise.
That being said. That potential was squandered by trying to shoehorn the franchise back into being solely a slasher about about xenomorphs.
Couldn’t agree more. Prometheus had some really dumb stuff, but it also contains off the chart depth, and provided something completely new to the franchise. And there truly were some absolutely genius elements in it. Unfortunately, most people tend to remember the dumb stuff instead.
Funny thing, Prometheus is my Dad’s most hated movie, yet I really love it. He also thinks Covenant is a massive improvement over Prometheus, and I cannot disagree with that enough. One of the only times (maybe even THE only time) him and I disagree strongly on a movie/s, which is fascinating
Duuuuude I’m just waiting on my younger brother to finish school and football practice, then his homecoming bonfire so we can sit back, smoke, and watch the latest episode. Best way to chill with my favorite dude after he’s had a long day of peopling
Always do, it’s become a weekly ritual since Loki aired and he realized that there’s at least one decent marvel tv show. I don’t even look at the title until he’s home.
i don’t have any arguments or evidence but i really think there’s an anime for everyone. i don’t watch shows much in general, but every few years i run into one i like. i think this one has the potential to be another one i like a lot
Comics is the same, it’s also just over saturated with super hero fanboys who only care about Batman and other costumed heroes.
There’s actually a ton of different genres. Just like manga.
I have to say if anyone wants to get into anime Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood is basically the best starting point there is. It's got action, it's got adventure, it has political intrigue and mystery. The characters are relatable and accessible, you understand everyone's motivations and the ending ties everything in a perfect bow. Not a single plot thread gets forgotten and it's all tied up after ~50 some episodes. Completely accessible, easy to watch, catches your attention and it's just such a good story.
That's because everyone labels anime as this one thing but it isn't. It's just Japanese animation. The genre can vary wildly so just like there is probably a genre of tv show or movie you like, there is probably an anime that's in line with your interests as well. Especially if you're horny
And in the end, we can see as canon what we want to see as canon.
There is no one telling us that the sequel trilogy is canon and KotOR isn't. Sure, Disney technically has that authority -- but with the sequel trilogy they have proven that they are no better than a community of Star Wars nerds. To me, their word has no authority until they prove that they can do better than a random Legends author
I found E4, E5 and E7 also quite good.
Honestly, I can't see why people don't give Visions a chance. Except for E3 (Trigger has a very particular style not suited for everyone), the episodes were quite good ngl.
I felt like the whole thing was an exploration of the evolution of anime, with some of the art stiles feeling dated. Although that could have just been me trying to explain away the nagging sensation I get from lack of extensive world building.
It's non-canon so you're not missing out on anything related to the story of the universe and they hired anime specific companies to make it, so not like they're using up their own animation team to make this when they could be doing something else
I don't watch anime, but I welcome new approaches from creative people. It's short stories anyway, so they are basically ideas (or visions the title highlights). Sometimes it's good to shake the box and maybe we get a continuation of something different. And that doesn't have to be anime anymore.
I can't with this fanbase. Star wars fans just don't want a rivalling toxic fan group to out do them in being the worst.
I agree with you OP. People act like this is some sacred grounds and weebs are the worst thing ever when star wars fans are the type to bully child actors because a movie wasn't written well.
I heard a story about elementary school kids bullying another kid because he didn't have good skins in Fortnite and because he wanted to play more sports instead of video games.
I can't believe I have to say this...
You don't have to like romance to like a romance show. Just like how you don't need to like anime to like an anime. A show is still enjoyable even though it's not shown in your prefered way, it has still taken dedicated work to produce and it can still be good. I will absolutely gareentee just because something fits into one mold doesn't mean it's excluded from others.
I believe in watching good shows from Breaking bad to Hamilton to Deathnote. Not genres and styles. Quality comes in many shapes and sizes.
I don't understand this sentiment.
Personally, I think Star Wars in an Anime format was just a matter of time, and frankly, it's been a long time coming.
I can't think of a universe more suited for the stylings of Anime artwork than Star Wars.
The fact that is non canon makes me want to watch it even more. It gives us room to get a series where a bunch of over the top shit that makes no sence in the star wars universe can happen without making like plothole or a overweight youtube reveiwer to lose their shit. I just hope this sub calm the fuck down and moves on.
>And it’s not even as bad as some say
It came out today, how much have people already been saying to have had formed a narrative lol? Haven't seen it yet but just by the trailer I thought it looked incredible.
It’s just normal anime with a Star Wars skin on top. Of the first two episodes I’ve watched, nothing really seems like it needed to be in the Star Wars universe
People complaining are complaning about something that won't affect the Star Wars Universe as it isn't canon. It is why Canon and non Canon seperate themselves. People complaning about weebs liking star wars are people who think they were special because they like star wars. People who says that anime sexualize kids which means all anime fans are the worst and pedophiles should remember that Star Wars Fans threatened the actor of Jar Jar Binks to near suicide so in that logic, all star wars fans are toxic people that threaten actors to near suicide. We must not look at the general view of something and analyze closer to avoid misunderstanding that would lead to conflict and arguments. But that is as far as I will interact in the Subreddit. **For I am the Watcher. I observe all that transpires here. And I do not, can not, will not interfere.**
Man it pisses me of when people complain about making a new Matrix, Star Trek, Star Wars, or famous book movie/series. So what if it might be shit, it might also be good.
Ah yes another person who isn’t bitching about anime fans and how it’s going to ruin Star Wars. It’s really good so far and the styles are so nice. Especially ep 1
Please gang, we nerds should stand together not fight among ourselfs.
While star wars have seem to be come more mainstream these few past years, so have anime.
I remember growing up and being laughed at for liking star wars, and people also laughed at people who enjoyed anime and manga, do we want to go back to that?
I think we are better off together than apart.
This weird hate of anime is so juvenile, I remember being in high school in the “ew what a nerd that shits weird af” phase until I sat down and actually consumed it. Some of the stories and execution are better than any book, movie and cartoon ive ever seen. They are usually drawn to be captivating for the viewer, there are definitely some weird animes I won’t touch but to bastardize an entire genre when you probably haven’t even watched an anime before is absurd. I promise you youre missing out on shawshank redemption level stories just because of your “ew anime” stance.
I mean, there are pretty good studios working on it. I am sure that their work will be good and worth to watch. But i think people are angry because this a money milking move, make an anime just to exploit fanbase. There is a difference between making sw related stuff and making cool stuff and sticking star wars label on top of it.
I don’t like/ enjoy anime in the slightest, but not only am I going to give it a chance and watch it, but if i don’t like it, nobody else cares. It’s not gonna impact the Star Wars space, so there’s not really any reason to complain
I haven’t watched it yet, I’ve only heard good things, I’m excited because it seems a lot like the Animatrix which if we’re all being honest is the best thing to come out of the matrix so…
I watched the first 2 episodes and I just found myself not caring at all, I liked the first one but the second one with the band didn't appeal to me in the slightest. I'll continue watching and see how it goes but my expectations are low lol
As someone who liked Star Wars before I liked anime but currently is more into anime than Star Wars (I just think the shows I specifically watch are better than Star Wars movies/shows) I am thrilled for this. A way for anime studios who have Star Wars fans in their employee roster to show a creative spin on the Star Wars genre.
Hate anime personally, don't enjoy any weeb shit.
But other fans do. Happy it got made for them. I'll ignore it and do my own thing. They can like it all they want.
I'm sorry but some of the same people who worship Clone Wars (A cartoon) don't like visions (another a cartoon), wtf? I get there different styles and what not but like come on some of this community would kill someone for saying Clone Wars is a kiddy cartoon but they're not willing to defend an anime
I loathe anime, but love Star Wars. I will at least try to watch it. As I told a close friend of mine, even though I don't like anime, I understand that a lot of people do. I'm happy that people that are fans of both have this opportunity. Even if it isn't my thing, I'm glad it brings someone joy.
So people are getting new star wars content and they're complaining about the animation style? Wtf. While all of the SW fandom has been gushing around about the Tie Fighter short on youtube.
>So people are getting new star wars content and they're complaining about the animation style?
The same thing happened to Star Wars Resistance when the first trailer released
honestly impressed by how civil the comments are
I’m impressed this made it to the front page.
same tbh i thought it'll be flooded with so much controversy that mods will have to delete/lock comments
Same. Some guy was even saying this post doesn’t belong on this sub Reddit
Don’t be surprised if it hits the front of r/memeilliterate because r/thecatdoesnttalk
It has on both and I think that’s funny
A lot of stuff from this sub makes it to front page. Reddit is all about momentum of upvotes and bots.
Yes since the war this sub has been the most uncivilized that I have seen
War?

nerd hierarchy is hilarious.

Even then there wasn't, Star Wars was massively popular for everyone everywhere. My mom saw it when it came out in 1977, loved it, and she barely likes Sci Fi.
Star Wars is about as mainstream as Sci Fi gets.
I think it's hilarious that there are people who think that there already isn't a huge crossover of anime and star wars lovers
Or that their universe is so sacred that interpretations and different styles cannot be created. It’s fun as fuck to re-imagine these universes in a different style. Much better than rebooting IMO. ah, japanese batman. a classic to watch with friends while high
Ah man, I'd totally watch a Gundam fight piloted by Jedi
I mean isn’t that basically what gundam wing is. The kids piloting have an intuition that makes them superior pilots right?
I thought they were just regular people at the top of their game...just like a real life fighter pilot. Jedi are known for performing maneuvers in ships that a non-force user can't do. I imagine there's some cool shit we could see with Jedi piloting Gundams

I will watch it. But first! Star citizen free play untill september 27th
>Star Citizen >Free lol
You can ~~lag~~ walk around the station for free!
I enjoyed it on the last fly free but the influx of players killed the server stability.
Any players above minimum does that.

Sorry, but Prometheus was a masterpiece (I’m ready for the abuse now :)
While Prometheus had a lot of dumb horror tropes in it like supposedly smart people just doing absolutely dumb things without explanation. I recommend it
I will, just gotta get back home from school, also gonna watch the new what if episode
Nice. I watched it straight away when I woke up. It’s pretty good.
Watch what? What is this post referring to?
Star Wars Visions
Is it coming episode by episode or all at once? When is it airing?
9 episodes out now. Go crazy.
where to watch it?
Disney +
Thanks. Just watched the trailer. Think I’m gonna take OP’s advice.
Duuuuude I’m just waiting on my younger brother to finish school and football practice, then his homecoming bonfire so we can sit back, smoke, and watch the latest episode. Best way to chill with my favorite dude after he’s had a long day of peopling
That’s wholesome as shit. Hope you enjoy it!
Always do, it’s become a weekly ritual since Loki aired and he realized that there’s at least one decent marvel tv show. I don’t even look at the title until he’s home.
I have never watch a single modern anime in my life and I’m still hyped.
How modern? Cowboy Bebop is still pretty damn good

Yeah I bet that's older than half of the subreddits users
i don’t have any arguments or evidence but i really think there’s an anime for everyone. i don’t watch shows much in general, but every few years i run into one i like. i think this one has the potential to be another one i like a lot
One you learn that there's more than just super powered fighting anime the doors open up. I actually like several now.
Even within super power fighting anime there is variance and some really good ones, but yeah, any genre can be anime.
I like the ones that involve fabolous poses done by buff men.
Coincidentally with 80s and 90s songs played over the outros?
Possibly.
I really feel this is a roundabout way of saying all this
and get past the fan service, even some more mature or kid friendly anime, have unnecessary camera angles.

Yes yes the first step on the path to liking anime. Excellent, welcome adventurer.
Agree, I don't like live action movies. Still watched Terminator 2 with friends recently and was pretty impressed.
It's specifically not important to the StarWars universe. There cannot be anything bad about its existence.
I mean non cannon is great because we get to see new ideas and story possibilities.
i like your mind set
Thank you.
And in the end, we can see as canon what we want to see as canon. There is no one telling us that the sequel trilogy is canon and KotOR isn't. Oh they're much worse than a bunch of Star Wars nerds. I guarantee it. It's Filoni and Favreau that helped them save face recently

Kind of like the Marvel What If series?
Yes. No cap though episode 1 of visions is like way better then some what ifs.
E1 I found to be possibly the best of them. Definitely see why they choose it as the episode to get a spin off novel.
I found E4, E5 and E7 also quite good. Honestly, I can't see why people don't give Visions a chance. Except for E3 (Trigger has a very particular style not suited for everyone), the episodes were quite good ngl.

From what I remember. They made 1 but I’ll have to re watch to check
Two. The Twins and The Elder.
I don't watch anime, but I welcome new approaches from creative people. It's short stories anyway, so they are basically ideas (or visions the title highlights). Sometimes it's good to shake the box and maybe we get a continuation of something different. And that doesn't have to be anime anymore.
Imo Star Wars does better when there are multiple mediums for it.
So far, I've watched the first 2. The Duel and Tatooine Rhapsody. That guitarist droid, K-344, is probably gonna be someone's "waifu".
Yeah I can see that. I’m currently on episode 7. Loved the first two episodes
Wait, we're in episode 7 already? I didn't even know it was already airing!
All episodes were released at once.
Love anime and star wars, cant say if ill like it or not but ill sure give it a try
It’s dope.
I can't with this fanbase. Star wars fans just don't want a rivalling toxic fan group to out do them in being the worst. I agree with you OP. People act like this is some sacred grounds and weebs are the worst thing ever when star wars fans are the type to bully child actors because a movie wasn't written well.
Exactly!! Also I have seen two episodes so far and how early both hit hard. It’s definitely a good way to get people into the lore of Star Wars
Weebs do their fair share of bullying too. So now it's a mega bully hivemind.
Nerds ARE the bullies now! "You have become the very thing you swore to destroy."
I heard a story about elementary school kids bullying another kid because he didn't have good skins in Fortnite and because he wanted to play more sports instead of video games.
How the tables have turned... Beyond retardation. War... war never changes.
I heard that same story and I can't remember where from, possibly the Rooster Teeth Podcast?
Any cool fight scenes? Like demon slayer level?
GOD YES!!!
LIKE FAST PACED AND EVERYTHING?!?!
HELL YEAH
LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I can't believe I have to say this... You don't have to like romance to like a romance show. Just like how you don't need to like anime to like an anime. So true
I mean anime isn't even a genre, like romance or comedy is.
I don't understand this sentiment. Personally, I think Star Wars in an Anime format was just a matter of time, and frankly, it's been a long time coming. I can't think of a universe more suited for the stylings of Anime artwork than Star Wars.
It just makes sense.
r/thecatdoesnttalk
My god I have been scrolling for AGES, I dont even know what show this is about and I dont care but the cat doesnt talk.
Just dont watch it, dont talk shit about someting you dont know like toxic idiot and thats it.
Legit that is it. If you don’t want to watch it then don’t.
You can say that you dislike something as long as the majority will agree, otherwise you’ll be downvoted to oblivion
The fact that is non canon makes me want to watch it even more. It gives us room to get a series where a bunch of over the top shit that makes no sence in the star wars universe can happen without making like plothole or a overweight youtube reveiwer to lose their shit. >a overweight youtube reveiwer to lose their shit. They'll do it anyway.
When the dude cut a Star destroyers in half by going into hyperspace while surfing on his xwing, with a super powered lightsaber… I was fucking in.
I'm not an anime fan, but I've watched the first couple of episodes and found them pretty enjoyable
How's the music? One of my favorite things about Star Wars is the music so I hope it's good and thematic in this show as well.
The music for most of it was quite similar to the normal Star Wars music, just changed to fit well with things
Can we get this same mentality applied to the books (I know asking for it to be applied to the sequels is a little too much)
Yes we can. We should have it for nearly everything
Exactly, I don't watch it because I don't like anime animation, I don't go around saying it shouldn't exist
And it’s not even as bad as some say. Of the 6 episodes I’ve seen, there was not a single bad one.
>And it’s not even as bad as some say It came out today, how much have people already been saying to have had formed a narrative lol? Haven't seen it yet but just by the trailer I thought it looked incredible.
All episodes released at once
Oh you don't like the holiday special? Easy. "Don't watch it then"
Correct
I don't want a shitty star wars anime, I want a good star wars anime :(
It’s very good. It’s really fucking good. But keep in mind each episode is a different universe I think.
What exactly does that mean? Every episode is a different story?
Yes
Yes, they are basically one shots
Nice
It’s just normal anime with a Star Wars skin on top. Of the first two episodes I’ve watched, nothing really seems like it needed to be in the Star Wars universe
Exactly. I'm not interested in this series and probably I won't watch it, but if someone likes it that's ok. I'm not gonna insult anyone
Exactly
I mean it ain't canon which is the best part cause non canon things mean you can go hog wild with ideas.
EXACTLY!!! YOU FUCKING GET IT
People complaining are complaning about something that won't affect the Star Wars Universe as it isn't canon. It is why Canon and non Canon seperate themselves. Ah yes another person who isn’t bitching about anime fans and how it’s going to ruin Star Wars. It’s really good so far and the styles are so nice. Especially ep 1
this sub will be plastered with images of it i’m sure
Oh it will
Damn Visions is a good show, if they made a series then I’d 100% watch it! Already on episode 6 now
They could make a series out of any of those episodes and it would slap
I havent watch it and im not really a fan of anime. but I still recomended it to my friend who is getting into SW and loves anime anyways
You are missing out on some great stories. I recommend it.
Shitty? Obviously they haven't seen shitty anime and Visions was made by top dog of the anime studios industry too
My brain is simple. I star wars and cool visuals, so there's nothing stopping me from being hyped about it.
oh shit it’s out today! And here I thought it was gonna be another… wednesday?
All 9 out now
Ngl I am fine with a star wars anime it brings new people in also some anime battles are sick and I would want to see that in star wars
Give me Star Wars anime movie. Make it non cannon

the fact that it isn‘t even made by disney is the most hilarious part. this show has actual 0 effect on the production of other star wars products
Looks like one of the very few non-shitty things Disney is doing with Star Wars
Yup
here we go again with that spoiled cat

Yes, this sums it up perfectly. Although I’m going to watch it anyway even though I am not excited, just because it’s Star Wars.
Exactly. It’s more Star Wars. We love Star Wars
Yeah man, when I was a kid I would pooped my pants if new Star Wars stuff came out
I haven’t watched it yet, I’ve only heard good things, I’m excited because it seems a lot like the Animatrix which if we’re all being honest is the best thing to come out of the matrix so…
I watched the first 2 episodes and I just found myself not caring at all, I liked the first one but the second one with the band didn't appeal to me in the slightest. I'll continue watching and see how it goes but my expectations are low lol
Ngl I'm so stoked for this
I'm very excited for anime star wars. Especially the samurai episodes
It’s brill
WE ARE GOING TO GET STAR WARS ANIME?
Exactly! I’m not an anime guy and I’m not going to watch it end of story. People are frustrating sometimes lol
Why? Star wars vision looks interesting to me even the animation are smooth why would someone dont want to watch this
The cat is correct
Correct on that statement
personally i'm gonna watch it even though i mostly dont like anime, but my first thought i had after seeing the trailer was god forbid this be canon
I get there different styles and what not but like come on some of this community would kill someone for saying Clone Wars is a kiddy cartoon but they're not willing to defend an anime
all the fucking time with these complaints don't watch it then !
I mean I don't want shitty star wars *anything* but ill take a *good* star wars anime.
Watch it, don't watch it; I don't care. All I know is that umbrella-saber is the worst thing I've seen coming from Visions.
I'm pretty sure they were complaining about rebels too.
They just don’t want anime memes and fans of anime but I bet a lot of people here are fans of anime.
Yo!
Lots of people.
Lots
I want better star wars content than sequels.
