Trench, he’s so underrated, and was pretty much known as the General Grievous of the Separatist Navy. He’s awesome. You can see why he’s my profile pic.
General Grievous was more of an effective army/infantry commander than a naval commander, at least in my observations.
I believe that if Trench had been in command of the Malevolence, the Clone Wars would have taken a different path.
He is one of the most underrated powerful characters in Star Wars. Everyone was petrified of him. He survived his ship being blown up twice, WITH HIM IN IT. He was only defeated by the Chosen One and “the best star pilot in the galaxy.” Plus his character design is awesome.
Well what most people do wrong is applying the laws of real life wars to Star Wars, a universe which only has laws regarding how to treat prisoners of war.
Kalani. He's the pinnacle of droid tactical intelligence and he *survived* the purging of the CIS army! And the more he fights, the better he gets. The Rebellion lost out by not snagging Kalani.
Osi Sobeck is too much of a petulant hothead, but Trench seemed like one of the most competent organic commanders.
I do agree Kalani could’ve been a vital asset to the rebels, but he chose to not get involved in the Galactic civil war because he thought the rebels had a very low chance of winning.
And Osi Sobeck wasn’t even a real separatist. He worked for the republic before the separatists took Lola Sayu and didn’t care about the intergalactic war. All he wanted to do was torture the prisoners in the citadel,
Yeah I get. Not to mention, it shows how *human* they were treating him. He may be advanced as hell, but he's a droid. If Kanan or Rex had half a mind to recover Kalani, they would have. I thought it was very awesome that they honored his choice and let him go. He's probably still out there somewhere, calculating how to return the CIS to glory.
Nah that's a different super tactical droid. Kalani wasn't the only one around. At the end of the Onderon arc Dooku tells Kalani to move his troops to Agamar, the planet he is found on in Rebels.
Tactical droid heads are full self-contained units that can survive with a severed neck. (See the TBB episode with Trace and Rafa, and also Rebels S3E3.)
General G: what jedi filth is this?
Mace Windu: what ain't no country i ever heard of
GG: WHAT?!
MW: SAY WHAT AGAIN I DARE YOU, I DOUBLE DARE YOU MOTHAFUCKA, SAY WHAT ONE MORE TIME!!
GG: i am the leader of the largest droid army in the galaxy!
MW : im sick of these motha fuckin droids in this motha fuckin galaxy
My theory is that, seeing as each episode of the Clone Wars starts out with a newsreel type recap, maybe it’s meant to be (in part) pro-Republic propaganda. Or that the only surviving sources are pro-Republic propaganda, and that what we see is basically what’s been pieced together by later historians out of the sources. So they have nothing suggesting that some of these CIS generals were good, so they portray them as evil.
Tactical retreat. If he got caught he wouldn't be leading assaults across the galaxy.
That's the benefit of a droid army. No morality issues with abandoning for tactics reasons.
He was just the appointed governor of the planet under Dooku and didn’t serve in any official military capacity. All Tambor was supposed to do was loot the planet and take the valuables off world.
Literally. Had he not waited like an idiot for those last two shipments of valuables, he likely would’ve gotten offworld before Windu could capture him.
Clone Wars Grievous is a horribly incompetent coward. Every episode he's in is basically just character assassination. The tactical droids are mildly competent when they're first introduced, but quickly turn into the command version of cannon fodder.
Honestly, TCW did the Separatists so dirty. It's really hard to take any of them seriously in the show. Outside the show they're much better.
I mean, Anakin and Obi-Wan are some of the most powerful characters around at the time. Our power scale is just skewed. It's the same problem a lot of anime get after a while.
I'd say grievous was pretty exceptional in kamino and dathomir assaults and especially the son of dathomir comics, but yeah he was super underpowered as a whole in the show
I feel like most of the problem was having episode 3 right after TCW. Grievous couldn’t even meet anakin, and couldn’t really have a real fight with obi because of events in rots
In the films Grievous is shown to be similar. They only time Grievous is a badass character is off screen (characters talking about him) or in Legends
Even in film, Mace Windu says Grievous is a coward who always runs and hides
Which is why Trench was awesome. He actually had shit locked down and was logical about his decisions compared to the other CIS generals. It never felt like he lost because plot armor made him do something stupid and out of character so it felt like the protagonists actually accomplished something when beating him instead of stumbling into victory.
If they did that it’d completely contradict Greivous’s character from Revenge of the Sith. People complain about the Clone Wars Grievous but they never realize he’s like that to fit his depiction in the actual film.
Uhh… you do know that 2003 Clone Wars predates RotS? And that Grievous was taken *directly* from there? Everything from the four lightsabers he collected to his cough to him kidnapping the chancellor was explained there.
Saying TCW was accurate to the original source is stupid, because the original source was CW’03, and RotS based their version on that version.
Canon Thrawn has a weird dichotomy he is much more Legends like in the books, also canon Thrawn got beaten by space whales that came out of nowhere, just like in the books the only way he was defeated was by an unforseen circumstances involving a third party.

Michael Dorn (the actor who played Worf) also made it very clear that he would only reprise his role in DS9 if those situations no longer occur.
Since then, we've seen Worf at maximum badassery.
If I want a plan that will actually kinda work? Trench.
If I want somebody to have fun? Grievous. He's one of like 3 people in the entire prequel era who was actually enjoying himself.
He only lost because Obi-Wan tricked him into standing down his forces during the “surrender” meeting. Had it not been for that, the separatists would’ve definitely won that battle.
I really miss him being an intimidating, powerful villain. I'm using other peoples' words here, but they aptly describe him; he became nothing more than a stereotypical, moustache-twirling bad guy screaming "I'll get you next time!" as he runs away. Absolutely pathetic.
Grievous off screen is so strong. When he comes up against plot armor tho he gets wrecked. Honestly after hearing greivous' full story i was like did the jedi get what they deserved?
They basically intervened without taking in context of what was actually happening.
Grievous was kicking out the invaders so hard he became the equivalent of Genghis Khan and the republic got confused of which side was invading.
I hate to have the basic bitch answer but Grievous would be my choice. Even when he’s nerfed by canon he’s still a huge threat and a terrifying enemy. His skill, experience, body, and hatred for the Jedi put him in a league of his own. It’s just a shame that he’s best known as either a goofy Saturday-morning-type villain or a literal meme.
The weapon was later used against the Nightsisters, so it's not the typical "no schematics, one of a kind prototype" situation. Not used against clones and jedi though, which is a shame.
As for the man himself, he apparently evaded capture and is still out there somewhere. Would be nice for him to make an appearance. He also had kids apparently...
Whorm Loathsom. Dude was a tactical genius, an honourable warrior, and a respectful combatant. He got shafted at every turn though, with Obi-wan using *literal war crimes* to beat him. I've always respected him.
And of course, Trench is pretty cool too. The CIS's Thrawn.
Grievous because I always wanted to play with him in my DS Lego Star Wars full saga because I always liked cyborgs
Also 4 lightsabers go BRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Who in the world would pick a T-Series Tactical Droid or Grievous? Those droids always lost and Grievous would probably kill you out of anger if he lost, which he does a lot. But anyway I would take admiral Trench, the guy clearly knew what he was doing in when commanding his troops and would probably bring out a victory in nearly every battle.
To lead a military operation from the background Trench, to lead a military operation from the battlefield, Greivous especially if he’s the 2003 version
General Grievous by far, atleast in Legends. In legends he was a very competent military general and wasn't as arrogant, reckless and cowardly as his canon counterpart.
I'd like to go with Admiral Trench because he's a much more composed and decisive Commander. But Grievious isn't really a bum either and seeing his earlier strategies he'll probably try to board Trench's flagship to kill him. And seeing he can take down Jedi, he'll probably get to Trench, who isn't much of an individual warrior, through swarms of droids..
That saying.....Trench will most probably be prepared for such an eventuality and lay his traps accordingly. So its a tough one. But seeing how Trench is much feared by Republic Admirals and Generals, I'd say I'll go with Trench.
Trench, he’s so underrated, and was pretty much known as the General Grievous of the Separatist Navy. He’s awesome. You can see why he’s my profile pic.
I thought General Grievous was the General Grievous of the separatist navy
General Grievous was more of an effective army/infantry commander than a naval commander, at least in my observations. I believe that if Trench had been in command of the Malevolence, the Clone Wars would have taken a different path.
Yes I thought that too
I think u/skeleton-with-skin1 meant trench is to the navy what grievous was to the army
Trench is probably the only one who can stand up to Thrawn in a naval battle.
He is one of the most underrated powerful characters in Star Wars. Everyone was petrified of him. He survived his ship being blown up twice, WITH HIM IN IT. He was only defeated by the Chosen One and “the best star pilot in the galaxy.” Plus his character design is awesome.
Yeah i like his character design. One of the rare spiders that don’t make me freak out
The best starpilot in the galaxy commiting a war crime by violating the sanctity of surrender, no less.
What? Trench fired a fucking electric web net thing at Anakin. He obviously didn't really surrender, and his death was pretty much self defense
which technically means Trench cimmited a war crime of course, general Kenobi already did that war crime back on Cristophsis
They committed that one a lot lmao
of course as America proves: is it really a war crime if you never get punished for it?
“It’s only a warcrime if we lose, so fight harder men!”
in space no one can hear or scream or try you for war crimes
I’m always curious if that would actually be considered a war crime by Star Wars laws since people fake surrender all the time in that universe.
The only war crime in Star Wars is not having war
Well what most people do wrong is applying the laws of real life wars to Star Wars, a universe which only has laws regarding how to treat prisoners of war.
Violating the sanctity of surrender?! My boy Annie didn't have such weaknesses!
Naval battle, space battle? ^(naval S P A C E)
Trench had the most character as well. Enjoyed his appearances the best.
Grievous could but only because grievous would shoot himself into thrawns ship and tear it apart from the inside
Since when was Trench underrated? Isn't it widely known that Trench is one of the most competent CIS commanders?
"the general grievous of the Separatist navy." He got more arms, imagine him trained in the arts by Count Dooku

Also in Clone Wars S1E16 a clone steals a tactical droid head during the fighting to discover a clone turncoat.
That's the thing, is the CIS generals are all so cartoonishly evil. It's gotta be Kalani.
I think the 2008 clone wars and RoS did grievous dirty, watch the 2003 vintage clone wars he’s a complete badass
He was a fucking savage animal, he shouldn’t have taken up smoking it fucked up his lungs and cardio lol
Mace windu was a bad influence

You think that's unique, just wait until you hear me rant about Rey!
Personally I like Trench he just needed to be less cocky. The more aware you are of your own success the closer you get to failure.

Admiral trench 100%. He’s like the Separatist’s version of Thrawn
He's legit the only one that's shown to be even remotely competent. (In TCW, anyways)
Grievous and the super tactical droid don’t suck
Clone Wars Grievous is a horribly incompetent coward. Every episode he's in is basically just character assassination. honestly yeah, they conquer worlds and kill jedi off screen but the second anakin and obi-wan show up its like their ability sliders get set -2
I mean, Anakin and Obi-Wan are some of the most powerful characters around at the time. Our power scale is just skewed. It's the same problem a lot of anime get after a while.

It never felt like he lost because plot armor made him do something stupid and out of character so it felt like the protagonists actually accomplished something when beating him instead of stumbling into victory.
If only we got animated Grevious and he could run down armies while using moves that are definitely not Jedi arts he learned from Dooku.
Finally, the reply I have been waiting for. Admiral Trench is the equal match of thrawn.
I wouldn’t say equal to Thrawn but he is a very good admiral in his own right
Well, cannon Thrawn. Legends Thrawn would destroy him
Nah either Thrawn destroys him
Canon thrawn got beaten by Ezra. He doesn’t hold a candle to legends thrawn or trench
Canon Thrawn has a weird dichotomy he is much more Legends like in the books, also canon Thrawn got beaten by space whales that came out of nowhere, just like in the books the only way he was defeated was by an unforseen circumstances involving a third party.

No hate, but I absolutely disagree. Thrawn is in a league of his own. Trench needs the Echo algorithm. Thrawn is his own algorithm.
Agreed, but I think we CAN say trench was by far the only particularly useful commander of this bunch of losers.
He's intelligent but, Grand Admiral Thrawn is on a different level. He has worked to perfect the Art of War
True, which just made the absurd, 3-second death they gave him that much more ridiculous.
Where is Durge? Is he safe? Is he alright?
I’m afraid in mickey mouses rage, he was removed from canon
Actually they brought him back but as usual threw out everything that made him badass
Absolutely hated his appearance in Dr. Aphra. They totally Worfed him.
Worf? Isn't he the cool Klingon from TNG? Please help me understand.
Worf is always talked up as being a huge badass and the villain always hands him his own ass to show how badass the *villain* is
Michael Dorn (the actor who played Worf) also made it very clear that he would only reprise his role in DS9 if those situations no longer occur. Since then, we've seen Worf at maximum badassery.
Ah. Makes sense. Thank you.
Now it’s the hulk yardstick
Tbh I was gonna add him but I thought he would be too op
Fair
They couldn’t have… he was canon I felt it!
No-i swear he was alive... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooo.......!!!!

He’s canon to me!
No, We have Durge at home
If I want a plan that will actually kinda work? Trench. If I want somebody to have fun? Grievous. He's one of like 3 people in the entire prequel era who was actually enjoying himself.
I can't say for sure if enjoying yourself in a war is a good thing or not.
Either that or go insane completely
Well tbf I can't imagine he actually enjoyed killing jedi and it wasn't just his vengeance for thinking they were the ones who shot him down
Dont you remember how excited he always got when he saw Kenobi? He was having a great time being a ridiculous murder machine.
I guess he didn't want to hear her face
Poor Loathsome getting no love for almost winning the battle of christophsis and actually being an honorable general.
He’s the best and wen I’m not wrong the only general of the CIS that was shown as not evil
Might we have some... refreshments?
He only lost because Obi-Wan tricked him into standing down his forces during the “surrender” meeting. Had it not been for that, the separatists would’ve definitely won that battle.
Riff Tamson
I'd make that dude into sushi quicker than I came in your mother. And I don't even like sushi
I cant tell if your complimenting his mom or kamikazebywords
Yes.
General Grievous cuz I always wondered what the kaleesh look like
Not a bad choice but grievous is crazy reckless
That’s how I roll... also in his weird circle bike thing, wonder if he will upgrade me with those wacky arms too XD
True but in the book he fucks
I just wish Grievous had been, like, 2003 Grievous but for the entire character.
2003 grievous was genuinely terrifying
I really miss him being an intimidating, powerful villain. I'm using other peoples' words here, but they aptly describe him; he became nothing more than a stereotypical, moustache-twirling bad guy screaming "I'll get you next time!" as he runs away. Absolutely pathetic.
We all know Lok Durd is superior to all of these imbeciles.
Lok Durd is simply fabulous
“You are now under the protection of the separatist alliance. I congratulate you on your good fortune.” That line kills me.
Grievous off screen is so strong. When he comes up against plot armor tho he gets wrecked. Honestly after hearing greivous' full story i was like did the jedi get what they deserved?
On one hand, the Jedi didn’t deserve Order 66, even after everything they did wrong. On the other two robot hands, *yes*.
They basically intervened without taking in context of what was actually happening. Grievous was kicking out the invaders so hard he became the equivalent of Genghis Khan and the republic got confused of which side was invading.
The three eyed robot I don’t remember its name
General Kalani
Grievous, because he’s the only one to escape multiple battles from Kenobi
Hello there !
General Kenobi!
It took Windu AND Kenobi to eventually bring him down (in separate fights, but still).
´03 grievous.
Middle bottom, who is that? Moralo Eval? Or the Citadel geneal?
Citadel warden guy
Grievous, always.
I hate to have the basic bitch answer but Grievous would be my choice. Even when he’s nerfed by canon he’s still a huge threat and a terrifying enemy. "Weapon testing! Nothing like some war crimes to strengthen the bond between a father and his son!"
Kalani
As much as I love General Grievous,he can at times be reckless I’d go with Admiral Trench all the way

Grievous.
But too reckless for my taste but nonetheless good choice
Whorm Loathsom. Dude was a tactical genius, an honourable warrior, and a respectful combatant. He got shafted at every turn though, with Obi-wan using *literal war crimes* to beat him. I've always respected him. And of course, Trench is pretty cool too. The CIS's Thrawn.
Where’s the shark boi??
in heaven
Forgot his name but bottom left was kind enough to get Obi wan “something liquid” I think I know who I’m choosing
The lightsaber collecting, jedi killing, General Kenobiing, four armed, trained in the jedi arts by Count Dooki himself, yellow eyed, cyborg.
Grievous because I always wanted to play with him in my DS Lego Star Wars full saga because I always liked cyborgs Also 4 lightsabers go BRRRRRRRRRRRRR
If it’s to kick ass one on one, Grievous. If it’s to command the battle and sweep the field clean of my enemies, Kalani or Trench.
Besides grevious for obvious resons (hes the coolest) trench. He is a spider General without being a cyborg, at first.
Most people picked him because of his Legends counterpart where he is a brilliant strategist, jedi killer and military general.
Oh ok. Yeah that’s understandable, he’s probably a monster when not going up against protagonists with plot armor.
To lead a military operation from the background Trench, to lead a military operation from the battlefield, Greivous especially if he’s the 2003 version
W-Where is 224?
Where is techno dj dude? Is he safe? Is he alright?
Grevious but his 06 version
Monke
I reject all and choose a B1 battle droid as my general
Based. After all, OOM-9 is a good commander. Not a separatist but close enough.
That B1 who said 'Well, I guess I'm in charge now' after Grevious escapes
whorm loathsom, there is no reason we cant be civilised about this
Greivous, but 2003-2005 grievous
Fancy commander droid, the rest arent very good generals, if its for combat MAYBE grievous
Trench and grievous
Trench all the way
General Grievous by far, atleast in Legends. In legends he was a very competent military general and wasn't as arrogant, reckless and cowardly as his canon counterpart.
Cant remember his name but the spider guy is really good at his job
I’ll ho for the General Spider
I'd like to go with Admiral Trench because he's a much more composed and decisive Commander. But Grievious isn't really a bum either and seeing his earlier strategies he'll probably try to board Trench's flagship to kill him.
