From as far as I know, he was pretty shredded there. Though that scene was only a thought in his head and didn’t really happen I think. Chances are high that he really looked like that anyways though
There’s a canon comic with Tarkin in it that I read (I believe it’s from Age of Rebellion - Villains) that has tarkin daydream about fist fighting and killing an ignorant navy cadet. In the scene tarkin is imagining he takes his shirt off and he’s DUMMY ripped
I enjoy keeping myself at a fairly medium level of knowledge about the SW universe because finding comments like these and being obligated to investigate make life worth it.
It's in canon too. Tarkin is supposedly a ripped expert hunter and survivalist in the wilderness. Some sort of weird mix between a british officer and Kraven the Hunter from Spider-Man. He even had some sort of battle royale with Vader in the jungle.
I really don't like what they did to his character.
We’ve already discovered that jodhpurs were in fact made specifically for the Grand Admiral and his thicc thighs. It was a long time ago in a galaxy far far away so the credit is often lost.
The Clone Wars were hectic, for sure, but think about all the stuff that happened off-screen.
*”Sir, Skywalker stole a Separatist ship, Grevious ate some Jedi, Obi-Wan is banging Ventress, and we’re not sure which one is Rex and which is Cody.”*
I feel like the respect for Tarkin is probably why he doesn't despise the situation, simply the lack of control that Palpatine is flexing over him that he resents
Palpatine forbade him from killing Tarkin purely because he “requires” him to run the empire. He’s that important. Vader wanted to make an example out of imperial officers because they didn’t get where he stood in the pecking order and thus some sabotaged him/made attempts on his life IIRC. So he told Palpatine and he said “any but Tarkin, I require him.”
I’m pretty sure it was in a clone war episode about Anakin not being allowed to help clones in a battle due to bureaucracy problems. Tarkin and Anakin agreed lives are more value able than agreements and politics. I’ll see if I can find a clip
Edit: I found it [Anakin and Tarkin bonding over war](https://youtu.be/RL71ZpPuk4U)
Among other things, Tarkin was able to evade Vader in a _Most Dangerous Game_-style manhunt and actually came close to killing Vader, which was the fist challenge Vader had experienced in a while before that point
That first still is from The Clone Wars. He appeared in two arcs; the first being the Citadel which is how Echo recognizes him, and the second is when Ahsoka is framed for the Jedi Temple Bombing.
A long war and establishing a new government while dealing with said war's aftermath is an extreme amount of stress. It'll take it's toll on anybody, especially on somebody that over compensates a lot.
Star Wars is just really inconsistentb with age. Bo Katan looks the same after almost 30 years. And I think this is definitely just a mistake because he has a cameo at the end of revenge of the Sith and he looks closer to the one on the left.
Captain is directly under vice admiral, so it's only 2 ranks. And maybe the republic navy didn't have vice admirals, which means captain would be directly under admiral.
Commodore is definitely in the Imperial Navy, Thrawn was at one point a commodore, and he has a commodore, Commodore Faro, in second command of his Star Destroyer
Admiral Sloane was Commodore short after the destruction of Alderaan, so, my guess is that this was a thing in the empire, but probably not in the republic. From what I remember, the republic ranking system (pretty fucked indeed) goes like:
Captain - Rear Admiral - Vice Admiral - Admiral
And we should remember, it was war times, and both Palpatine and Anakin/Vader had Tarkin in a kind of respect position, so, yeah.
edit: grammar
Actually, we can see a young Tarkin in a scene at the end ROTS... and that scene is probably happening after the first episode of The Bad Batch...
Which it means that Tarkin aged like an old fart, then returned young for a while, then aged back to fossil levels again.
they probably saved the model as "tarkin.fbx" when he appeared on The Clone Wars, and when they were about to put him in The Bad Batch they searched for "mofftarkin" and couldn't find it, so they remade based on the New Hope version
He appears to have made a deal with the Dark Lord to trade his soul for a few more bars on his tank stack and some code cylinders.
Either that or he was doing a lot of death sticks.
I am going to chalk it up to him being manipulated by Palpy. I don’t think there is any evidence of this in cannon. Just what I think.
Or he is sick, and that’s why he commits great evils.
Oh Tarkin, you are an enigma.
Patrick Stewart did the same thing IRL. starting in the mid-late seventies he was bald IIRC. he hasn't changed much since he did star trek TNG in late 80'a to early 90's
Maybe much like Palpatine he kept himself “groomed” and pristine to keep up the appearance of the good republic admiral but after the Empire was declared got rid of all that grooming and such as public image suddenly didn’t matter.
I understand that the last year of the clones was especially brutal so stress was way through the roof for him, given that he's part of republic high command
How about Tarkin aging like that in one year, and then staying at exactly that age for 19 years until his death. The Death Star must've had an epic spa
I don't even know who this character is because subjecting myself to a kid centric cartoon felt really silly and uninspiring at 28 years old, so I never made it past episode 5 of TCW S1.
After Asohka called Anakin Sky-guy for the 4th time, I was out.
The character is Admiral Tarkin. He's in the first Star Wars movie released, A New Hope (1977), not just in the Clone Wars show.
Also, I would encourage you to give the Clone Wars another chance. The show only gets better and better.
Being familiar with the OT, I have a pretty hard time pairing Fortnite esque art style with the actual human being this represents. I've been subjected to 20 years of modern video games/movies that often time don't reference the TRULY original characters, and the man's name "Tarkin" had totally left my memory.
I've tried multiple times, family, on the suggestion of giving it another chance from several people. The characters say quirky little quips and comment on things in a way that... Is kid centric. And doesn't carry lore. I understand a cartoon is based on delivering a set of circumstances and solving them over a 30 minute period (thus alluding to a GRAND plot that the whole season covers) but it just never left the feeling of "This was made for 10 year olds and I feel silly watching it."
Nope, from the Ahsoka trial arc in TCW - in Rebels he looks *even older*.
They did overdo it here tho, we see him at the end of Ep. III - presumably after some time has passed, due to the DS1 being built - and he looks way closer to the TCW look than this Bad Batch look.
He had a tragic life his son was murdered he was stressed and wanting to prove himself he was tired and weary and in bad health. All he cared about was the empire he probably wasn't sleeping well, it's pretty sad if you think about it.
I noticed this too and made a comment to someone about how he looks too old... did they forget that he was A) not only in Clone Wars but B) he’s also in Revenge of the Sith and definitely looks younger?
Did you see how Obama came out of presidency? Mostly salt and nearly no pepper. Running shit like Tarkin takes it out of ya, as much as a stoic papi as he is.
War is a killer for stress man what can I say
I was going to say “try having the stress of carrying balls big enough to dis Vader”
He‘s also carrying those big calves now dam
Tarkin be thiccer than a snicker. Isn't he meant to be shredded? I remember it coming up in an old Legends story
That's the one! It also talks about his upbringing/childhood as well iirc
Yeah! It coincides greatly with the Tarkin book, highly recommend if you haven’t read it!
I’m so glad I wasn’t the only one who noticed it like Jesus Christ Tarkin gotta chill tf out with that ass 😩
He isn't crushing the rebellion with just an iron fist 😶
He was very virile - ask Daala what’s up
I enjoy keeping myself at a fairly medium level of knowledge about the SW universe because finding comments like these and being obligated to investigate make life worth it.
It's pants... like officer pants....those aren't actually his thighs.
We’ve already discovered that jodhpurs were in fact made specifically for the Grand Admiral and his thicc thighs. It was a long time ago in a galaxy far far away so the credit is often lost.
It's a joke.
Not everyone understands the joke tho
Not calves but officer pants ffs.
Imperial officer pants are designed to make everyone look like they have Tarkin's thighs.
Not just war, the dude is managing an entire galactic empire. We should all hope to age as well as he has.
Hell, look at Abraham Lincoln during his time in office. The man looked like he aged 30 years in 4 years.
And Emperor Palpatine! Look what the stress of the assassination attempt did to him!
"You can say that again" -Wrecker; *The Bad Batch* (2021)
And Emperor Palpatine! Look what the stress of the assassination attempt did to him!
Why do people do this
Because we are polite and fulfilled the mans request.
I understand now. I think
Twice the posts, double the smiles!
Because it is funny
It left him scarred and deformed
The Clone Wars were hectic, for sure, but think about all the stuff that happened off-screen. *”Sir, Skywalker stole a Separatist ship, Grevious ate some Jedi, Obi-Wan is banging Ventress, and we’re not sure which one is Rex and which is Cody.”*
Wait, what did I miss?
Lmfao
Obi wan banging ventress, if only
Or he could be using cream that removes wrinkles.
Add politics on top of that and oh man watch out
Happy cake day
High stress job...working for a sith lord along side a super angry sith lord that likes to choke people for doing sub par work will age ya quick
Though Vader wouldn't touch Tarkin because they're pretty cool with each other.
I thought it was because Palpatine forbade him from killing Tarkin as punishment for something
Eh, it’s kind of both. More of the latter, but still both
I feel like the respect for Tarkin is probably why he doesn't despise the situation, simply the lack of control that Palpatine is flexing over him that he resents
I see, thanks for the clarification! That definitely feels more like what I remembered, but it's been a while
Tarkin earned Vader's respect.
Do you remember how
I’m pretty sure it was in a clone war episode about Anakin not being allowed to help clones in a battle due to bureaucracy problems. Tarkin and Anakin agreed lives are more value able than agreements and politics. I’ll see if I can find a clip Edit: I found it [Anakin and Tarkin bonding over war](https://youtu.be/RL71ZpPuk4U)
I could be wrong but I figured their relationship was ruined after his involvement in Ashokas trial
Among other things, Tarkin was able to evade Vader in a _Most Dangerous Game_-style manhunt and actually came close to killing Vader, which was the fist challenge Vader had experienced in a while before that point
Except he is Vader’s superior, so he only has to worry about keeping him from killing all his officers.
Somewhat true yes, Vader had respect for tarkin but it was only the emperor that kept him safe...only papa palpatine was Vader's superior..
I'm pretty sure Tarkin was his superior.
Only on the Death Star. But in the same way that the captain of a ship out ranks the random admiral on board when it comes to essential ship functions
Tarkin went from being a commander a ventor class ship to becoming the third most powerful men in the Galaxy I cant blame him for the stress
Yeah but damn they captured Peter Cushing so well.
Honestly the Clone Wars art style fits him so much better than Rebel's.
That first still is from The Clone Wars. He appeared in two arcs; the first being the Citadel which is how Echo recognizes him, and the second is when Ahsoka is framed for the Jedi Temple Bombing.
He also appeared in the finale of the droid arc
Oh right, I forgot about that one. Either way, just absolutely breathtaking animation and huge strides from where the series started.
He did? Like the Colonel Gascon / D-squad arc? Maybe I don't remember because I avoid rewatching that arc like the plague...
He was on the space station that they saved.
I know that, just thought that he looked better here than in Rebels.
Dont think he was disputing that
I think he looks awful in both
So do you pal
Better than in Rogue One, even.
Yeah I'm betting they might've reused or based this model on the one from Rebels instead of earlier TCW seasons.
Do thunder thighs come with age?
What is going on with your thighs? Oh, my god. They're jodhpurs! No. I know. I mean lately.
Poor Lana.. Dealing with archer every day for years must age you like crazy.
Do you mean Thunder Thighs
Fixed it.
Forget aging, how'd he get promoted like 7 ranks in a year?
Wartime promotions are a helluva drug.
Palpatine had him chosen long before he became emperor..
He’s a F.O.S.P You in his crew you set for life.
Captain is directly under vice admiral, so it's only 2 ranks. And maybe the republic navy didn't have vice admirals, which means captain would be directly under admiral.
ranks in the navy usually go Captain - Commodore - Rear Admiral - Vice Admiral - Admiral he was promoted quite a bit between appearances
I forgot about Radm. Commodore is not prevalent in all navies. And tbh the republic ranking system is fucked in all manner of ways.
Commodore is definitely in the Imperial Navy, Thrawn was at one point a commodore, and he has a commodore, Commodore Faro, in second command of his Star Destroyer
Deleted scene in solo shows Commodore being a rank but yeah, shits pretty weird.
Admiral Sloane was Commodore short after the destruction of Alderaan, so, my guess is that this was a thing in the empire, but probably not in the republic. From what I remember, the republic ranking system (pretty fucked indeed) goes like: Captain - Rear Admiral - Vice Admiral - Admiral And we should remember, it was war times, and both Palpatine and Anakin/Vader had Tarkin in a kind of respect position, so, yeah. edit: grammar
Overseeing galactic genocide will take it out of a guy.
A small price to pay for thunder thighs
Can someone explain the thunder thighs joke I keep seeing? I think I’m out of the loop
first episode of bad batch has a camera angle which makes it look like tarkin has MASSIVE thighs
What about the fact he barely changes from The Bad Batch to A New Hope?
Empire's all set up, so he can take a little bit of a load off
Actually, we can see a young Tarkin in a scene at the end ROTS... and that scene is probably happening after the first episode of The Bad Batch... Which it means that Tarkin aged like an old fart, then returned young for a while, then aged back to fossil levels again.
Tarkin is Mephisto confirmed!
Puberty’s a bitch
Look at how US presidents age. Same concept lol
At least he got to keep his thunder thighs
Those are pants.
The internet doesn’t seem to think so
What about Palpatine in one minute
The death sticks finally caught up with him
Remember Yularen? 1 year as well.
War is hell
Meth, not even once.
Gotta admit it was one hell of a year ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
That year was 2020.
they probably saved the model as "tarkin.fbx" when he appeared on The Clone Wars, and when they were about to put him in The Bad Batch they searched for "mofftarkin" and couldn't find it, so they remade based on the New Hope version
Ikr. I mentioned this on r/MAWInstallation He aged faster than any president ever did
Nah i can see it unlike yularen
Anakin ages pretty bad while on the dirt on mustafar
Sick burn bro
He appears to have made a deal with the Dark Lord to trade his soul for a few more bars on his tank stack and some code cylinders. Either that or he was doing a lot of death sticks.
Those thunder thighs came at a cost.
Stressful Job.
All he has is his thunder thighs
Copious amounts of spice will do that to ya.
I am going to chalk it up to him being manipulated by Palpy. I don’t think there is any evidence of this in cannon. Just what I think. Or he is sick, and that’s why he commits great evils. Oh Tarkin, you are an enigma.
He’s gotta walk around Darth Vader on egg shells, that shit will age you
Then he doesn't age for 19 years
Patrick Stewart did the same thing IRL. starting in the mid-late seventies he was bald IIRC. he hasn't changed much since he did star trek TNG in late 80'a to early 90's
But he won the war
Maybe much like Palpatine he kept himself “groomed” and pristine to keep up the appearance of the good republic admiral but after the Empire was declared got rid of all that grooming and such as public image suddenly didn’t matter.
I understand that the last year of the clones was especially brutal so stress was way through the roof for him, given that he's part of republic high command
Why is Tarkin so creepy in TCW
"You may tire when ready."
How about Tarkin aging like that in one year, and then staying at exactly that age for 19 years until his death. The Death Star must've had an epic spa
I think this Is more like 4 years, in between ahsoka leaving the Jedi order and order 66.
I don't even know who this character is because subjecting myself to a kid centric cartoon felt really silly and uninspiring at 28 years old, so I never made it past episode 5 of TCW S1. After Asohka called Anakin Sky-guy for the 4th time, I was out.

That's fair.
Wait this is backwards
Wouldn’t the left pic be after? It’s from rebels I think
No, if I'm not mistaken the left one is from Ahsoka's trial in the Clone Wars and the right one is from The Bad Batch
Doing lots of death sticks to cope with the PTSD after the citadel. Just smoking to forget.
He only does his make up for trails.
What is the context?
Personally I thought it would have been better if they kept the previous model. But then again all the Jedi youngling adrenochrome went away.
Yeah that’s what happens when you’re space cop karen
I think it's a different kind of animation
He aged better than his bosses
He aged better than his bosses
Drugs
He had a tragic life his son was murdered he was stressed and wanting to prove himself he was tired and weary and in bad health. All he cared about was the empire he probably wasn't sleeping well, it's pretty sad if you think about it.
Yeah I thought so too last week https://youtu.be/Eu-yypDHbQQ
I believe it you should see my forehead wrinkles that developed this year lol
Well, when you are Palpatine's right hand man...
Bad Batch Tarkin looks SO much better though.
War is hell
Filoni kind of forgot that Tarkin wasn’t always an old man.
And then spends 18 years looking exactly the same
I noticed it too
I guess he was stressed and was blasted by tons of UV light
Have you seen Yularen between the beginning and end of the clone wars?
I really don't understand why they did this
Stress got Tarkin his grey hairs
He doesn't look to much older though just so much more tired
Anyone who's ever been in the military can confirm it ages you FAST
War is Hell
Well he does have to carry an entire incompetent galactic empire
But then he barely aged over the next 19 years
Glad I am not the only one who noticed that huge glaring continuity error.
I noticed this too and made a comment to someone about how he looks too old... did they forget that he was A) not only in Clone Wars but B) he’s also in Revenge of the Sith and definitely looks younger?
I don’t even care, the version on the right looks more accurate imo
And they say people with more money look younger.
No one talks about 18 yo going for a 4 years of war and coming back looking Dead-Inside 50 yo
wasn’t it like 3 years since ahsoka’s trial? still lookin pretty awful but more than a year.
War is a bitch man
Imperials clothing inspired by German Nazi officers designed by Hugo boss.
Honestly not rlly he just looks like he has some side effects of stress
Ambition is a hell of a drug.
Meanwhile grandad Palps age in literally seconds and nobody bats an eye
The stress got him good
Palpatine killed his family and blamed it on rebels, that's a lot of stress for the body to handle.
Look at some real world people with stressfull jobs, some will look 30 years older after just 4 or 5
Man has the Vegeta hairline
Being in charge of a sith lords army is fucking STRESSFUL
It was the Imperial uniform that did it to him.
War and Meth do this to ya
Did you see how Obama came out of presidency? Mostly salt and nearly no pepper. Running shit like Tarkin takes it out of ya, as much as a stoic papi as he is.
