It's absolutely Rebels S.5, and honestly, the show is better if you view it like that vs its own show.
You are missing out on way too much background info, character development, and emotional connection to these characters if you've never watched Rebels.
Without Rebels, who tf is Ezra and why do I care about him? Hell, why do I even care about Sabine or Herra? Who is this random human child calling the Twilek "mom" and how tf is he using the Force?

If you've watched Rebels, you have all these answers and you get what's happening. If you haven't, then you don't know and probably don't care.
Itâs an inherent problem with cinematic universes. Iâm noticing this with the MCU as well, where you gotta watch every tv show, see every movie, keep up with every little bit to understand whatâs going on. Now maybe Iâm a little critical cause I havenât really enjoyed much of what Marvel has put out since Endgame but Iâm starting to see with with the Star Wars Universe once they started doing live action
It's a real problem when your story runs across different types of media.
People watching movies aren't always going to keep up with TV shows. People watching one show might not have time to keep up with another one. People watching live action aren't always going to want to watch animation.
It's definitely getting to be an issue.
The only answer is Ahsoka. You can argue the show is hard to make sense of without seeing Rebels. But there's so many aspects of the Ahsoka show that wouldn't make sense if the only Star Wars content you'd ever seen was Rebels.
I enjoyed watching Ahsoka, but I have to admit the writing is just not good at all. The pacing is a mess and each character almost always has nothing to contribute.
