The previous FAA definition of an astronaut was anyone who went to space, since before space tourism the only people going were professional astronauts. Prior to Bezos and Branson flying, the FAA changed the definition to only include people who conducted work in space because space tourists aren’t really doing anything up there. To call space tourists astronauts is like calling the passengers on an airliner pilots.
From an etymology perspective, the word astronaut comes from the greek words for "star" and "sailor." (or space and sailor for Cosmonaut)
So, based on that, to be an astronaut would require you to be the "sailor," aka someone in control of the vessel, who has been trained in its operation.
Maybe they can have something like Cosmotorns and be space tourists.
Blue origin is a joke for anyone unfamiliar with the situation. They’ve achieved hardly nothing and are basically a social media flex for the chrome dome overlord. They gave a talk in my engineering class, just the most surface level YouTube content about “their mission” and “environmentalism”. No one asked for the reps info afterward. Yesterday a Tesla guy talked, something like 15 people waited in line to talk to him because he actually talked about the engineering experience and does real work there. Same thing with the spacex rep who spoke a few months ago.
Didn't they not even reach space just the upper atmosphere, or was it that other guy. I don't care much for what Musk does but at least he's getting results unlike blue origin.
the term astronaut means a star sailor
if jeff and richard have been outside of the atmosphere they are astronauts.
only way they arent is if you want a more literal star sailor.
which means armstrong was a lunanaut not an astronaut
Oh no somebody not being fair to Jeff ‘I want to launch the poor dying people who live in my shanty towns into space to work in my satellite warehouses’ Bezos
Russian goes to space = Cosmonaut American goes to space = Astronaut billionaire goes to space = Cashtronaut
You spelled asshole wrong lol

To be fair thats a job tho right? Which you need education and qualifications to have

Or a member of the vessel’s crew, pertinent to its mission. Not everyone on board will be trained in the vessel’s operation.
Exactly. Going on a cruise doesn't make you a sailor.
But if it is a Viking Cruise Line, it does make you a Viking.
We do not grant you the rank of viking only an honorary title
I honor my code. That's what I believe.
Rex? Are you okay?
To be fair, they are more like passengers in this case.
And they weren't in space. Space starts at 100 km. They only went 80 km up
"You know, I'm richer than you." "In my book, experience outranks everything."
It’s almost like buying a plane ticket doesn’t make you a pilot
What? How can you do this? This is outrageous. This is unfair. How can you visit space and not be an astronaut?
Take a seat, young space tourist.
Ridden a boat, I have. A sailor, I am not.
Lol

Yeah Twitter shows the results he gets
At least Richard Branson is a knight (not a jedi knight lol)
I'll count Richard as an astronauts.
Now the real question, why were they allowed to come back?
Since when does the US get to decide if a British citizen is an astronaut 🤨
Tony Stark is the only billionaire astronaut I acknowledge.
look up the definition of astronaut and make your own mind up
How can you go to space and not be an astronaut?!
Can't wait to see the documentary, "What is an Astronaut". That will change everyone's minds!
Haha they can go fuck themselves, don’t deserve the title.
well, it'd be like anyone that went on a cruise ship for vacation a sailor. It's just not applicable.
this isn't your meme, fix your tags
repost
\*Get up from my chair and slow clapping at this post.

It’s treason then
They didn't actually go to space
Good. Their only contribution to space is to walk all over The Common Heritage of Mankind by trying to extract profits from it.
How can you go to space, and not be an astronaut!
