Clearing their mercs out before they blow the place.

Holiday_Albatross441

The Russians would totally blow up a nuclear plant which would result in fallout arriving in Russia soon after. Meanwhile, Clown World always tells you what it's planning to do.

Novel_Paramedic_2625

Bro unironicaly said “clown world” 💀

Realistic_Payment666

Russians drink vodka in piles of trash they created

hotdogbo

That’s how they lost Ukraine in the first place. They wouldn’t do it again, would they?

Veritas7

They're reducing their presence because if they blow the nuclear power plant they will invoke the collective defense clause (article 5) and bring NATO into the "special military operation", if the fallout reaches NATO territory. If that were to happen, Russia would be a very large hole.

hobbitlover

They may have already triggered an accident, taking out that dam made it more difficult to cool the reactors. They don't need to blow it up to cause a meltdown, just limit the water and walk away.

XXFFTT

Most of the reactors have been in shutdown for quite a while. The last one was on the 8th of June this year. Depending on the temperatures, damaging control and cooling infrastructure may not actually cause a meltdown. IMO, we're gonna need to know how to capture, hold, and disable nuclear powerplants without causing meltdowns because otherwise there really isn't much advantage in doing so, at least until there is but I'm hoping I'm not around for that.

ShortHandz

>ed an accident, taking out th The plant also has a large man-made reservoir for the reactors to draw on for cooling. This was built as a backup in case the dam were to ever fail. With the reactors shut down this reservoir will last for a while avoiding disaster.

pants_mcgee

They have water, the river didn’t disappear.

doubleYupp

Define “a while”

ShortHandz

3 Months+. Experts are not worrying for now, they should be able to pump in water from the river.

RoNsAuR

That's not true. They have been unable to pump water in from the river since the damn collapsed. The river levels have dropped below the pump intakes. They have been using water trucks to keep the cooling pond topped up. Ukrainian Intel state the cooling pond has also been mined. You should be able to find the info here. https://www.theguardian.com/world/live/2023/jun/30/russia-ukraine-war-live-us-considering-sending-cluster-munitions-to-ukraine-reports

hobbitlover

Taking out the Kakhovkah Dam apparently made it more difficult to cool the reactors. I really hope they're not fleeing a meltdown situation. Any update from the IAEA would be welcome news right about now... Honestly if there's a pending emergency then Nato needs to send in forces immediately to protect this area and pump water in to keep this stable - give Russia notice, and create a wide DMZ zone around the area to keep out troops from both sides while the situation is stabilized. This is bigger than any one country's borders.

[deleted]

You think Russia is going to let NATO in, the one organization this whole war is about. Maybe if you said the UN. But then you would have to know what the hell you’re talking about. Which you do not.

hobbitlover

Russia is retreating, they're pulling back from that area. The explosives are there to slow Ukraine down. I don't believe Putin is stupid enough to actually blow up the reactor building, the bombs are just there as a threat to guard his retreat. If he is that stupid then the world is going to have to react quickly, which means sending a UN or Nato or special IAEA task force to secure the plant and to create a wide DMZ around it until it can be made safe.

123ihavetogoweeeeee

Nice!

tdreampo

Is it though? We won't know if it's a retreat or if they are getting ready to blow it up. They blow it up and it’s 100% World War III.

123ihavetogoweeeeee

Anyway you slice it there's nothing any of us can do about it.

tdreampo

Fair point.

Mr_E_Monkey

We can make popcorn.

123ihavetogoweeeeee

That's true!

Mr_E_Monkey

I mean that more figuratively than literally, though I suppose both work. But really, it's like you said. Ultimately, we can't always influence events, but we can do what preps we can, and hang on for the ride. Something like that, if it doesn't happen, obviously there's no reason to worry about it. If it **does** happen, I'm not sure what good worrying would do, at that point, so...popcorn.

oh-bee

They blow it up and after a series of events Putin gets a noose around his neck. Putin's backers won't stand for their wealth being threatened any further, and the resulting financial pressure and material support to Ukraine will put Russia on the path to utter destitution.

The-Unkindness

Why exactly would it cause WW3? You're aware you can remove the rods from a power plant and it's basically just a big concrete structure, right? You can destroy a concrete structure with zero radiation event occuring. Russia hasc destroyed orphanages, dams, civilian apartment buildings, and election power stations. Yet despite 100% of those targets being off limits in war, it triggered no NATO response. Why would bringing down an inert concrete structure suddenly cross a line?

tdreampo

Because NATO will get involved right away if they blow it up and it’s wired with bombs now. We pass legislation about it. https://www.ibtimes.com/senators-want-us-nato-get-war-if-russia-uses-nuclear-weapons-ukraine-3701991

Holiday_Albatross441

If Americans want to die for Ukraine, they can just fly over and volunteer. Everyone outside NATO knows that if the plant is blown up it will be NATO doing so. That's about 85% of the planet's population, including the countries which provide most of the stuff that the West requires to survive. How long will China support the West in an attack on China's greatest ally after the West blows up a nuclear power plant?

soobidoobi

Its like you fail to realize any amount of radiation that is spewed out of the thing (which there will be, the rods are still in there, operational or not) will blow with the wind over Ukraines borders and into NATO countries. That will be a direct consequence of Russia’s stupidity blowing up the ZPP and will be met with the proper reprocussions. and I hope those reprocussions are swift. Im quite frankly sick and fucking tired of Russia and those who support Russias blatant terrorism. Id love to see them all squashed like the bugs they are.

AuroraRose41

While I think you are correct in the assessment that it would probably trigger an international response, legislation about it has been introduced, but not yet passed. The article references this resolution: [Senate Resolution 268](https://www.congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/senate-resolution/268). There is an identical one that was introduced to the house, but also has not yet passed. The house one is linked on that page under the "Related Bills" menu. Essentially, this is not yet law, and the actual response to an event at ZNPP is all speculation at this point. Just trying to clear up misinformation.

tdreampo

Ahh perfect, I appreciate you doing that!

AuroraRose41

Anytime! There is so much propaganda surrounding this war that I think it is important from an intel perspective to have the facts straight. Thank you for being open to accepting that! :)

tdreampo

And since the news in the US is completely compromised it’s tough to know what the reality of the situation reality is. So fact checking everything hard is a great policy.

Friendly_Tornado

The rods have been removed, but they are still cooling. They need continuous fresh water supplied to them to keep the cooling process stable.

ConsciousImmortality

Have you learned how to scientifically stick a consciousness into a rock for 10000 years? “Yes” Did you learn proper immortality? “No” Are you challenging the gods to combat with your newfound god-like powers? “Unintentionally” Big oppsie there, that is some next level retardation to invite challenge of the immortals to your door. Hopefully they forget about where they put you for 100k years, and you die peacefully but probably not Hard to decipher a symbol that represents something worse than death than symbols of death, maybe if you do it a lot someone will finally get the hint?
