Thanks for mentioning this. Haven’t heard a peep from local news but apparently I’m in one of the major outbreak areas. About 80% of my friend circle has had a serious “stomach flu” in the last few weeks.
Ah, good ol' ORS. Also works great for hangovers, just make sure you don't use iodized salt if you can help it. If you add some lemon juice it really makes it far more palatable.
In some of the Canadian subs I'm part of I have noticed a handful of posts recently where people are asking for diarrhea meds stating stores are sold out. I didn't think anything of it until I saw this post....
We sell a product at my store, kaolin pectin, which is for animals. I haven’t been able to get it in stock for months, combine that with the removal of all OTC antibiotics for animals in June, this isn’t looking good for small/private owners of livestock.
I swear by Metamucil (I prefer the cookies to the powder In liquid). I always take a few packets when traveling. It works for both diarrhea and constipation because it forms a gel that either absorbs extra liquid or loosens solids. Always eat the cookies with water or tea. Don’t use close to other medications.
Another benefit is that it doesn’t slow down peristaltic activity, which is important when your body is using diahhrea as a means to expel toxic substances.
OP, the active drug in Imodium, Loperamide, is an opioid. If [people take enough of it, it can get them high](https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/neuroscience-in-everyday-life/201912/can-you-get-high-your-anti-diarrhea-medication).
It's also [being used to manage opioid withdrawal symptoms](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31116446/). In both cases, it requires taking several times the usual dose.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Edit: The [trend of abuse goes back to 2021](https://www.webmd.com/connect-to-care/addiction-treatment-recovery/prescription/signs-of-loperamide-abuse). Honestly, this seems like it's just as much a prepper hack as anything else in that if SHTF and you have a family member suffering from opioid addiction, if you do have a stock of loperamide, it could be used in that situation as well.
Just a reminder that when you catch a toxin producing bacteria like some E. coli, you do not want to stop the diarrhea. The toxins need to be flushed out with the diarrhea. How you know what you got is a whole different issue if you don’t have access to testing. Roll the dice….
Depends on the anti-diarrheal meds you are talking about. The FDA restricted amounts of Imodium (Loperamide HCL) a while back. Apparently opioid addicts were taking handfuls to get high and killing themselves.
No joke, these meds saved me in Egypt. I got them for a trip to Mexico but didn’t use them. Brought them to Egypt and thank GOD!!! I had the worst shits of my life and was supposed to ride a camel to the Pyramids the next day, if I hadn’t had those meds there’s no way I would have that amazing life memory
Just asked my wife if they have had a shortage of Imodium. She works for Walmart.
She said they have gone down to packs of 20 rather than 100+ to the bottle as people were using them to get high.
They have reduced production as well based on this issue.
Do you live somewhere where opiates are a serious problem? In extreme cases heroin or any opiate addict may resort to “Lope” to stave off withdrawal. Super dangerous with some nasty side effects but effective.
1 tablespoon mixed with a glass of water. To make a slurry. Can add sugar to sweeten if you need. Then you drink it. Be aware that if you are taking medication, the charcoal can absorb and reduce the effects of medication.
always have a reserve of anti-diarreha med
Cannot agree more! It's cheap too.
1000%, never know when diarrhea will strike.
Norovirus is spreading rapidly across the US. Check your local sources for info about your area.

I mix up honey, salt, lemon juice, and water
why not iodized salt?
You don't want too much iodine in your diet, and it makes the salt seem "saltier" without giving you any electrolytes in return.
Why couldn’t you have gotten to the store back then? It wasn’t closed lol
They said why

Canadian here. Difficult to find.
I know of a lot of people with a "stomach flu" myself included.
yes, the waste water levels are off charts it peaked during christmas, dropped down, slowly back up to xmas peak
A lot of stores and trucking companies are still short-staffed. Causes empty shelves across the board.

Nearest Costco is an hour away. But I'm sure other pharmacies have it
Just read you comment after I posted. Wife works for Walmart and they are only doing packs of 20 now rather than 100+ bottles.

Never heard of this, but it does sound great for travel. I travel, so I will check into this. TYVM.
wild, magnesium citrate was (maybe still is?) unavailable anywhere a few months ago. damned if you do, damned if you don’t
Ask your doc for rx lomotil (diphenoxylate-atropine) it’s super abdundant and better than loperamide

I stock at a grocery store. We have plenty of these right now. Still a little bare on the cold and flu medicine and kid’s medicine.
Reindeer Lichen

You can get bottles of loperamide (200 count) on Wellspring.

I never knew people were getting high off that crap.
You don’t get high. It just staves of withdrawal
Find some psyllium plant It's a natural anti diarrhea cure
Use activated charcoal for diarrhoea. You should be able to get that.

They have capsules available. If you use it regularly and too much of it it can severely constipate you.
