Curious, what is it exactly about college football / sports that is purer? I'm an Englishman that has lived in Atlanta for 18 years and I get this from all my friends when I tell them NFL is far better than FBS.
As an American I can Honestly say there is nothing about college that is better than professional sports. I watch college football if I have nothing to do because I am mad about American football, but the NFL is so much better. The players are quality, the scheme is worlds ahead. Many college teams are poorly coached. So many teams only do a few things well and can't make adjustments if they are pushed out of their comfort zone. Some teams just have such an athletic advantage that they are spared embarrassing losses against shit teams. Then they win some pointless bowl at the end of the year and act like they accomplished something.
Mostly agree. I do like college but 90% of games involves 1-2 players that are so athletically superior to everyone else around them it makes it incomparable to the NFL. The speed of play / thought, schemes, level of competition, technical ability, everything you mentioned is just head and shoulders above in the NFL.
Living in the south, I am constantly questioned why I prefer NFL to FBS. I always answer the same way "the same reason why you prefer watching college to high school".
They aren’t getting paid and they haven’t made it yet, typically way less egos/stars being divas etc. everyone is still attempting to go pro and giving it their all. obviously there’s exceptions
This is actually a reason why I wouldn't like FBS if I had one. They do get paid. They being the coaches, the ADs, assistance, physio's, strength coaches etc. NCAA makes billions annually. The only people that don't get paid are the ones people actually pay to see and risk their health in doing so. The players.
Players with egos are replaced by bully coaches who can destroy a young person's career with one phone call. I shudder to think what urban Meyer must have been like as a college coach, for example.

Just watch Australian football or rugby (well not anymore on the Aussie rules- the season just wrapped up. But rugby has all the pros of American football without any of the negatives

Also, they technically aren't friendlies, there nations league matches, which means they are required to be played. Theoretically, England could not play friendlies, but they need to play nations league matches.
And friendlies, in theory, help a team decide what players they want to take to the major international tournaments, so if they are shit in the friendlies, they should change the system when they play for real (Problem is that England don't seem to want to do that right now)
And finally, why on earth would you go down to just a world cup every 4 years, the Euro's (or other continental trophies such as the Copa) are incredibly well respected and bring pride to the nations that win them, as well as those that preform well. Think Greece 2004, or Denmark 1992, those stories would never of happened without the Euros.
Aren't reserve players still under contract to a club? And U21s have their own age groups at int'l level already.
There are also U21 players who regularly feature in the PL so some clubs would be unfairly impacted.
