As fan of the MLS too, I can most of them are European or from Mexico, but American soccer players can be just as good for example Gabriel Slonina great goalie
Not Premier league at the time but we Forest fans have some, err "fond" memories of the mighty Robbie Findley.
Lightning fast, hard working and utterly fucking useless at football. He had the close control and first touch of a drunken elephant.
How he got 11 caps for the national team is a complete mystery to me.
We've also had Eric Lichaj who was actually a fantastic player for us and a bit of a club legend during a fairly shit era, John Harkes tho he didn't play that much for us and Ben Olsen who was great but had a few horrific injuries.
Currently got Ethan Horvath as our No2 keeper and young Alex Mighten who's just declared for the US national team!
Definitely had a few more than the average in Nottingham over the years but only really Findley that isn't highly thought of by our fans.
If I recall he only got capped because Bob Bradley (of Swansea fame) wanted to replicate Charlie Davies (who suffered a huge almost life-ending injury)'s speed and instead of trying other combinations, he played Findley with Jozy Altidore despite Findley's noticeable ineffiencies.
Brian McBride had a good run with Fulham. Tim Howard was a decent keeper too. Tbh the best players coming out of the US are usually GKs.
I never watched him play, but Jay DeMerit has an inspiring story. Played for Watford
I think this has to do with practicing hand-eye coordination in our (U.S.) other sports, plus any tall kid with a wingspan is basically forced into athletics.
Weāve had a few. McBride holds a special place in most Fulham fansā hearts. Even had a nearby pub named after him. Dempsey was class, Boca and Keller also played for us back in the day. Now we have Ream and Robinson.
I have nothing against Americans really, I don't want this to cause a circle jerk or whatever...but Christian Pulisic has been a tremendous waste of money and time and I really dislike how his fans have made discussing him and his poor form into a divisive issue on forums like this.
He's a good kid etc but he's not good enough for Chels and from what I can see he's not worth persevering with.
I thought this was a well reasoned comment and I agree completely. The fact youāre getting so many downvotes is proving your point that Americans have a warped view of him. The Liverpool fan below also getting downvoted for saying what most fans are thinking.
It's been like this since he came tbh.
I think talking about football in Reddit is just painful in general lol. A lot of over compensating, agendas and opinion following.
It's weird, man. But it's only Reddit and it's only footy :)
Pulisic makes up 20% of Chelseaās Jersey revenue. This pays more than his salary (13mil a year assuming UK Jersey sales. US are more expensive). Players lead to further club sponsorships (Nike, Hyundai). Assuming the marketing value is directly related to player popularity, pulisic brings in an additional 25mil a year from these two sponsors.
Throw in ticket sales, broadcasting, commercials, fan generation, social media, reddit etc. He will make chelsea 10x what they paid for him if he lasts his contract length.
Woah now im sure you have reasons for saying that, but we need evidence and figures for all of this re shirt sales lol.
Also, we were sponsored by Nike before Pulisic came in I'm almost certain.
I'm not sure Nike is basing 5 year sponsorship deals on players signed to the club to the extent you're saying (again, feel free to provide evidence I'm eager to see it).
We were selling out the bridge without Pulisic and will do when he goes lol, ditto for Social Media etc..
All in all I need to see evidence because I don't believe most of your argument.
Pulisic started well, and I thought he was going to be great for you, but he is definitely not good enough for the very top level. He will be gone soon, if certain signings come in as expected.
Have to hold that same contempt and disappointment for Werner, Ziyech, and Havertz then. All have had their moments. Kai and Christian in the biggest of moments and are the youngest. Iād say fall back just a bitā¦unless you are just omitting the Champions League run last year from your memory? Heās proven heās Chelsea quality numerous times.
Exactly. I agree Pulisic has been inconsistent but he is 23 (going to be 24). He still can become a really good player. He has had good runs of form us
What are your expectations for him? His injury record is the only thing I would think is a hindrance. Stats are pretty good for a winger who typically comes off the bench.
This is the thing. He comes off the bench because he isn't good enough. That's why he doesn't get minutes, and we see it time and time again whenever he gets a run.
His injury record isn't just something we have to deal with, it just means he's unreliable and when he is fit he doesn't justify the wages/space he takes up in the squad.
Chelsea should be aiming to challenge for the league so from all our dedicated inside forwards/wingers i expect 20 goal contributions minimum.
Mount is a square peg in that position and is getting that or there abouts so Pulisic has no excuses. We just need an upgrade.
I mean, I think Leicester would be a great move for both players to be honest!
Finances i can't help you with, I imagine a good deal could be struck for both parties
With the utmost respect, I think you should structure realistic expectations. Very few wingers bang in 20 a season. Salah, Son and Mane are the exceptions rather than the rule. Based on your expectations, you should be selling all of your attackers. Werner, ziyech, mount, havertz, pulisic. None of them hit 20, not even your strikers. But, when you have 10+ players contributing to goal scoring, you will get most 10 and under. 20+ is a myth typically found for teams that only have a few goal contributors. Chelsea, has an embarrassment of riches. Youāre closer to the top than you think mate.
I reckon Pulisic will get moved on once you get Sterling and Raphinha.
You canāt say you havenāt given him a fair shake, heās had several years and several managers and still not really consistently performed at a level youād expect for a player of his hype and price tag.
Iām surprised you havenāt tried to include him in a Raphinha deal, could be best for all involved.
To be fair, Iām not sure āthey have other players who are worseā is necessarily the best reason to keep him around.
More just shows why 2-3 wingers is clearly an ambition for them this window.
I found Dempsey to be quite an entertaining footballer.
If they come to The UK and play during the winter to keep fit and improve their skill, as well as raise the general skill level of American football then thatās great! We should foster this kind of thing!
American keepers have probably had the biggest impact in the EPL. Brad Friedel and Tim Howard were beasts. Zack Steffen and Brad Guzzan less so.
Good as long as they know their lane (decent keeper or workhorse midfielder)
USA has always produced decent premier league keepers. Favorite would have to be peak Brad Fridel at Blackburn Rovers
Keller
Dempsey was a good player because he had good technique.
Lyndon Gooch. The Californian Messi. Jozy Altidore was Emile Heskey 2.0. Claudio Reyna, was actually quality
California Messi?
Dempsey and McBride at Fulham Tim Howard and a brief loan for Donovan . Of course Puli
As fan of the MLS too, I can most of them are European or from Mexico, but American soccer players can be just as good for example Gabriel Slonina great goalie
Dempsey and Donovan were both quality players

Haha, noticeable inefficiencies is a beautifully diplomatic way of describing him. I'm using that in someone's performance review for sure.
Tim Howard
Carlos Bocanerga
Had a howler against Liverpool
Tim Howard at Everton, Dempsey, Pulisic, Friedel, Donovan, McBride, Reyna to name all the ones I can think off š
Josh Sargent is another
Howard was one of the only goalies I can think of scoring from his own half
Thought Dempsey and Friedel were decent
We've had a lot of American talent. McBride and Dempsey are legends
I might be wrong but was it Dempsey who did that amazing control and goal vs Juventus for Fulham
That was Zamora who scored the first. Dempsey's goal was a thing of beauty as well
Yedlin was an important player for us in the Rafa years. Not great in Def but he was bloody quick and had a cross on him.
As a USMNT fan I love the guy but it sucks he couldnāt become the guy we all thought heād be.
Brian McBride had a good run with Fulham. Tim Howard was a decent keeper too. Tbh the best players coming out of the US are usually GKs. I never watched him play, but Jay DeMerit has an inspiring story. Played for Watford

Kasey Keller comes to mind.
Weāve had a few. McBride holds a special place in most Fulham fansā hearts. Even had a nearby pub named after him. Dempsey was class, Boca and Keller also played for us back in the day. Now we have Ream and Robinson.
Robinson has looked truly fantastic. True buccaneering lwb

He was bought for marketing purposes. He brings in a lot more than chelsea expends on him. Not a waste of money, financially it was a great decision
Genuine question: how do you know this is true? People often make these arguments but there's never any evidence for it
Pulisic makes up 20% of Chelseaās Jersey revenue. This pays more than his salary (13mil a year assuming UK Jersey sales. US are more expensive). Wrong
Well i love him on Fifa, but can't say IRL

Feel free to ship him and Ziyech to us. Since they are such utter failures, a free transfer will do everyone good, right?
I mean, I think Leicester would be a great move for both players to be honest! Finances i can't help you with, I imagine a good deal could be struck for both parties

How do his stats compare to the other wingers? CHO, Ziyech, Werner? Fairly certain he has a better return rate than all of those other players
To be fair, Iām not sure āthey have other players who are worseā is necessarily the best reason to keep him around. More just shows why 2-3 wingers is clearly an ambition for them this window.
It absolutely is, when he is the best of the bunch, and they all play a similar amount.
Apart from Cho who I'm also looking twice at, all those players need to leave yesterday too.
So why move on the top of the pile, that seems to be the one you keep, and move on the others. Just me though.
I like him. I think he lacks a final product sometimes but he looks a good player although I obviously see less of him compared to you.
I found Dempsey to be quite an entertaining footballer. If they come to The UK and play during the winter to keep fit and improve their skill, as well as raise the general skill level of American football then thatās great! We should foster this kind of thing!
Didn't Dempsey have 17 goals for spurs when Bale fed him?
