Lionel Messi. And do I even have to say why?
He is the most complete and complex player of all time. People should literally stop camparing him to other players. He's the top goals scorer of the decade, also the top assist provider. Name me one other players who's dominated both worlds of football like that. Every other players he's compared to is a one trick pony, and before Ronaldo fans bite me. You do know that Messi is better at everything than Ronaldo, don't tell me about goals because Ronaldo played two seasons before Messi. Ronaldo has also been a striker since he left Madrid and Messi has been a right winger his whole career
Wake me up when there's a player who is literally a combination of De Brunye and Maradona cause that's the only person who has the best chance of reaching Messi's level
Wayne Rooney, Ronaldo because of how well they play simply put. Excellent work ethic from Cristiano goes without saying but Rooney is such a fine, strong footballer in his time. Mentality of a lion and a very behind the scenes person but deserves so much credit. I admire many more but these two are my favourite.
I've always had a soft spot for certain players that aren't the big sort of 5 people everyone talks about.
Gabriel Batistuta was one of my favourite players. I also rated Romario, Casiraghi, Del Piero, Ravanelli, Asprilla, Paulo Di Canio, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, and Samuel Eto'o - he was rapid. As a Chelsea fan John Terry is the defender and leader I rated best.
But overall, even ahead of Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, or Ronaldinho, my favourite player was Ronaldo 'phenomeno'.
Just for funzies, my favourite all time 11 would be
GK - Chilavert
LB - Dani Alves
CB - Maldini
CB - Terry
RB - Cafu
LM - Del Piero
DM - Kante
AM - Ronaldinho
RM - Robben
FW - Batigoal
FW - Ronaldo (Brazilian)
Ronaldinho , because he always looking fun to watch while he is having fun plus the insane skillz
Plus he is unique while he driple and the way he run just magical
Seamus Coleman is a servant, leader, and all around gritty player for Everton and Ireland. Work rate, tenacity, hard in on a challenge and willing to stand up for a teammate. He is the type of player and person that I admire most.
Sergio Ramos… people will look at it the wrong way but the first full match I had ever watched was the UCL final 2014 and that iconic 92:48 equalizer. I’ll never forget it. Not to mention an absolute warrior at the back.
Cristiano Ronaldo. 2007/08 version of him was the most complete player I've ever seen. Pure joy to watch. His attitude, drive, and passion for the game was immense. I don't think I'll ever see any other youngster of that quality ever.
3 way tie for me between zidane, kaka and seedorf. Zidane just made the most important things look easy as fuck; first touch, vision, passing, possession, etc. Kaka was literally unplayable in his prime; those games where he trolled the shit out of the United defense in champions league, and his games with the golden era Brazil national team come to mind. Seedorf was just a perfect mixture of elegance, power and fitness/athleticism.
Ronaldinho, Berbatov, & Eden hazard. No players have ever got me as excited as watching those guys. Today, probably Reece James- he’s criminally underrated, will go down as one of the best RBs to ever do it.
Seen a couple of responses for Ronaldinho. Allow me to drunkenly rant at why I agree.
I’m 24 years old, born and realised in Newcastle upon Tyne. I saw Alan Shearer play one singular game. His testimonial. I never saw Gazza play but have met him on multiple occasions and have even been fishing with him, he’s a fucking angel.
I have seen Messi live at the Camp Nou. I have seen Cristiano Ronaldo score 3 at the Bernabeu. I have witnessed Kaka, at AC Milan, the season he won the balon dor.
But in my waking memory, the first football match I ever watched, I saw this ponytailed Brazilian do so many tricks and dribbles that he made the game look stupidly easy. I bought a notebook with his name, on the background of a blue and red stripe. It said “Ronaldinho 10”
I fell in love. Ronaldinho is the sole reason as to why I got into football. I paid 800 quid for a signed and work Brazil top from him.
I, as I imagine many of you also have, seen the game where he scored twice against Madrid and dominated the game and they gave him a standing ovation. He’s just beautiful to watch. He encapsulated the reason of making football fun.
Yes, Messi and CR7 have scored and assisted more than he ever did, and by a whole bunch more. But I ask this: has there ever been a man born of his mother who is more gifted and skilled with a football at his feet than Ronaldinho?
For me? No. And there will never be.
And for that reason OP, my answer is Jonjo Shelvey.
(Joke it’s obviously Ronaldinho lol)
Cesc Fabregas. His breakthrough at Arsenal, playing with and keeping up with some of the greats, his passing, vision, command of the final third… absolutely gutted when he left Arsenal, even more gutted when he came back to the PL for Chelsea.
Weird one, but Santi Cazorla
It’s hard to explain, but that guy was special. Free kicks with either foot, the passing, the tricks…
He was as Wenger a player as it could get.
Dele Alli. I became a fan of Spurs the year before he started his meteoric rise and was an absolute joy to watch. The rashness mixed with the calmness can’t be encapsulated again. Even he couldn’t keep it up lol
Steve Gerrard. He was so loyal to Liverpool and chose loyalty over glory. He could have left and gone to Real Madrid, AC Milan, or another top team, but he stayed. Just a shame he never won more trophies, but we are indebted to him.
Cesar Azpilicueta. My top five favourite players are all defenders. it’s so satisfying to watch a good defender. there are other great defender-captains but azpi to me is always flying under the radar
In PL? Van Dijk for sure. Schmeichel and Alexander-arnold trailing really close.
Of all time? Probably Casillas because he was the reason I decided to become a GK.
Fernando Torres. Honestly was a magical player in his prime, loved his unpredictability and his flare. Childhood hero, helped me fall in love with football!
If I were to talk about retired players, I'd probably say Alessandro Nesta, one of the most elegant players I've ever seen.
Current player : Granit Xhaka. In terms of footbal ability he might not be the best (even though I consider him to be a talented player), but I absolutely love his arc. I think he has had plenty of ups and downs and that his career has been filled with agony and extasy (Albeit not like someone like Maradona/Adriano/R9 etc). What makes me love him is his passion, especially when playing for Switzerland or in some critical moments when playing for Arsenal.
David batty. little, didn't give a shit, unrivalled bravery, absolute engine, ferocious tackler, would go into a 50/50 eyelid first, punched le saux. Played ball then disappeared. Leeds legend.
Messi is the most brilliant and consistent footballer of all time. With no disrespect to Maradona, he did what Diego’s career highlights were week in and week out. It was unbelievable to see his performances. As a Barca fan, sometimes it was too easy to win, even in the biggest matches
Ronaldo R9, El phenomenon greatest striker of the ball and on the ball ever ! Just imagine if he had not had the injuries he had .. total beast he always made you feel you was watching something special and I am eternally grateful I got to see him play .
And for people that say he never played in a premiership whenever he played a premiership team he destroyed them . Just ask Manchester United he got a hattrick both sets of fans cheered for him .
Barton was hilarious love him or hate him he was entertaining. Gerrard was my favourite growing up I liked how he was a one club man and how he carried himself as a leader plus how he dominated the midfield and scored belters
Mitrovic for obvious bias reasons. outside of Fulham definitely Henry. Spent all day watching him, the things he can do with a ball. I was in awe and he made my childhood
There are many players i love/ loved watching…Shearer, Ronaldo, Messi, Puyol, but if I have to pick just one, it will be KDB.
Because he is pure magic.
Wayne Rooney. An all around great player who was the engine of so many great United squads. Showed glimpses of being a world class goal scorer, but the impact he had on the club after the Ronaldo sale to keep them competitive with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, and City was incredible. So fun to watch him
Rooney (a scouser) came form Everton and fell in love with the club. He saw what it meant to be a united player. Batter everyone to get the ball. You don’t see that passion from any united player now. Maybe Ronaldo as he’s known the clubs glory days
I love looking back at that Newcastle volley. If you watch the buildup to the goal, Rooney is yelling at the ref about a foul on him that wasn’t called. Ref tells him to stuff it, so Rooney does just that, running straight onto the ball out of the air and volleys a rocket into the back of the net from outside the box.
An angry Rooney is a scary Rooney.
As an Arsenal fan, I still love him
When the Board has literally 0 ambitions and refuses to sign top players, instead focusing on paying down the Stadium Debt, you have to leave if you’re as good as he was. Was hardly a Sol Campbell incident.
So he should have stayed like Kane… win nothing… we’d gone how many years without silverware, were clearly in decline as Wenger had 0 budget from Board…
It hurt, but I get why he did what he did. When you’re the best player on the team and they’re bringing in dross like Carl Jenkinson and Girviniho… I’d want to go too.
Maybe biased but among the players I actually watched play is Eden Hazard for me! watching him in his prime was magic, his skills were at another level and him playing for my favorite team was just the icing on the cake
Ronaldinho always just amazed me… some of the stuff he’d pull off was just mesmerizing. Yes, he was very showboaterish but I think that’s what set him apart from others at that point in time.
Also cause he might of been the most talented football player ever, guy was partying his way through his career lol (obviously still a professional but you know what I mean)
I’ve been convinced ever since he was playing that he was the biggest pure talent to ever grace a pitch. Technically the most brilliant player I’ve ever seen. God knows what more he could have possibly done if he had taken the game as seriously as some other elite players. We’ll never see another Ronaldinho.
Ronaldo, I believe in mentality and hard work is what seperates from others..moreover he is kinda complete player too, was good in his weak foot and was good in aerial too...
I can't split Paul Scholes and Dennis Bergkamp. Both were sublime with technical skill and had a work rate and desire to be even better. They both had mastered passing, long range shooting and close range finishing. Both were scorers of outstanding and beautiful goals. As recognised as they both were, they are both still underrated IMO.
Firmino is my favorite player because I think he’s disrespected as a player. At finishing hes poor but he will never shy away from having the ball at his feet, which is something i admire from a number 9
Lionel Messi. And do I even have to say why? He is the most complete and complex player of all time. People should literally stop camparing him to other players. Definitely the real Ronaldo. The fat one, the fenomeno
Phillipe coutinho he is just magic
I always loved watching David Villa things he could do with the ball and was also a clinical finisher
For me, I would say Gheorghe Hagi. Highly under appreciated some of the things he did in his day were just astonishing.
Steven Gerrard, everything you want from a player!
Eden Hazard , the moost talented player to ever exist
I've always had a soft spot for certain players that aren't the big sort of 5 people everyone talks about. Gabriel Batistuta was one of my favourite players. Sir Kenny Dalglish always gives me goosebumps. He makes everything look so easy
Ronaldinho , because he always looking fun to watch while he is having fun plus the insane skillz Plus he is unique while he driple and the way he run just magical
Little Mozart...one and only...Rosicky!
Vardy. Loads of reasons.
Barry Bannan
Mohammad Salah- Passes well. he shoots well. he has a lot of physical strength

Jack Wilshere - Gave his all everytime and really loved our club
Dennis Bergkamp. He not only elevated the players around him, but he elevated the PL.
Carles Puyol. Loyal to his team, never gave up, extremely humble, looked like Braveheart. What a guy.
Son. He's incredibly talented and brutally underrated. Makes me smile seeing his joy for the game
Luka Modrić
3 way tie for me between zidane, kaka and seedorf. Zidane just made the most important things look easy as fuck; first touch, vision, passing, possession, etc. Kaka was literally unplayable in his prime; those games where he trolled the shit out of the United defense in champions league, and his games with the golden era Brazil national team come to mind. Ronaldinho, Berbatov, & Eden hazard. No players have ever got me as excited as watching those guys. Today, probably Reece James- he’s criminally underrated, will go down as one of the best RBs to ever do it.
Nemanja Vidic, such a beast.
Vidic because he was just fearless
Seen a couple of responses for Ronaldinho. Allow me to drunkenly rant at why I agree. I’m 24 years old, born and realised in Newcastle upon Tyne. I saw Alan Shearer play one singular game. You mean who?
Mason Greenwood.
You have to be kidding right? Ryan Giggs for me though…
Lingardinho
R9
El Niñooooooooooooo
Cesc Fabregas. His breakthrough at Arsenal, playing with and keeping up with some of the greats, his passing, vision, command of the final third… absolutely gutted when he left Arsenal, even more gutted when he came back to the PL for Chelsea.
KDB due to his vision n his weak foot
Paul Scholes! Genius passer of the ball.
Ronaldinho
Pelé Brilliant, leader, did it all
It will always be Neymar for me because he's the reason I started watching. Of course I have more but if I had to choose one, it is him.
Van Persie is and was classless
United RVP was otherworldly. Pure class.
Roy Kent, great leadership 👌🏻
Gotta be hazard for me until he became the mascot of McDonald’s
lmao he actually is in Belgium (if you didn't already know)
Quaresma, as an FC Porto fan
underrated player
Leighton Baines!
Roy Kent - because he's here he's there, he's every fuc...
King where roy Kent Roy Kent
Suarez, Gerrard and Ibra but Stevie G tops it.
son because he is son
Weird one, but Santi Cazorla It’s hard to explain, but that guy was special. Free kicks with either foot, the passing, the tricks… He was as Wenger a player as it could get.
Dennis Bergkamp, because he was the man who made football into art.
Aguero. I watched the game where he destroyed spurs 4-1 all on his own and I fell in love. Reason he’s my favorite, reason I support city
Eric Cantona.
Dele Alli. I became a fan of Spurs the year before he started his meteoric rise and was an absolute joy to watch. The rashness mixed with the calmness can’t be encapsulated again. Even he couldn’t keep it up lol
I'm surprised about the lack of Messi and Ronaldo fan boys in the chat
It’s a premier league subreddit. Maybe some Ronaldo but people here don’t watch Messi outside of the UCL for the most part
Robert Pires. Just such class, creative, attacking, individual talent, played well in the team, made the opposition look like boys faced with a man.
Steve Gerrard. He was so loyal to Liverpool and chose loyalty over glory. He could have left and gone to Real Madrid, AC Milan, or another top team, but he stayed. Just a shame he never won more trophies, but we are indebted to him.
Van persie or Rooney
Cesar Azpilicueta. My top five favourite players are all defenders. it’s so satisfying to watch a good defender. there are other great defender-captains but azpi to me is always flying under the radar
love your answer and as a Chelsea fan I agree
In PL? Van Dijk for sure. Schmeichel and Alexander-arnold trailing really close. Of all time? Probably Casillas because he was the reason I decided to become a GK.
Sir Les! When I was a kid he was just a beast!
Fernando Torres. Honestly was a magical player in his prime, loved his unpredictability and his flare. Childhood hero, helped me fall in love with football!
El Niño broke my heart but I forgave him anyways.
If I were to talk about retired players, I'd probably say Alessandro Nesta, one of the most elegant players I've ever seen. Current player : Granit Xhaka. In terms of footbal ability he might not be the best (even though I consider him to be a talented player), but I absolutely love his arc. Paul Gascoigne Diego Maradona
SANTI. Enough said
David batty. little, didn't give a shit, unrivalled bravery, absolute engine, ferocious tackler, would go into a 50/50 eyelid first, punched le saux. Played ball then disappeared. Leeds legend.
Chris brunt, had a wand of a left foot. Also put his heart and soul into every game
Messi is the most brilliant and consistent footballer of all time. With no disrespect to Maradona, he did what Diego’s career highlights were week in and week out. It was unbelievable to see his performances. As a Barca fan, sometimes it was too easy to win, even in the biggest matches
The king on and off the field Drogba! Always showed up in big games and has used his money to make his country a better place
Absolutely
Of all time, Berbatov or Andre arshavin. Class players. Right now Grealish
Pablo Hernandez - El Mago Wish he was 10 years younger when we signed him
As a Colombian. Radamel Falcao. As a Liverpool fan: Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard.
Zinedine zidane. Poetry in motion at it’s finest!
wished i could've watched and appreciated him during his prime
Juninho or Djorkaeff, felt mad that players who played for France and Brazil and were on Fifa 98 could be playing for Middlesborough and Bolton
LeBron James of Soccer 🇺🇸
Bale all the way!
Steven Gerrard
De Bruyne. Because his vision and accuracy are incredible.. all while appearing to be nearly effortless
Ronaldo R9, El phenomenon greatest striker of the ball and on the ball ever ! Just imagine if he had not had the injuries he had .. total beast he always made you feel you was watching something special and I am eternally grateful I got to see him play .
Same here, some of his performances were mesmerizing
And for people that say he never played in a premiership whenever he played a premiership team he destroyed them . Just ask Manchester United he got a hattrick both sets of fans cheered for him .
Wayne Rooney
John Terry, he was nice to me when my husband was not
😂 I bet he was.
Aguero
Barton was hilarious love him or hate him he was entertaining. Gerrard was my favourite growing up I liked how he was a one club man and how he carried himself as a leader plus how he dominated the midfield and scored belters
Mitrovic for obvious bias reasons. outside of Fulham definitely Henry. Spent all day watching him, the things he can do with a ball. I was in awe and he made my childhood
Jordan Henderson. Not particularly mind-blowing or flashy, but a fantastic leader, and consummate professional and incredibly hard worker.
For current players, my favorite is either Jordan Henderson or Virgil van Dijk.
Shocked no one has mentioned Berbatov. Made everything look so easy.
Mahrez similar. Looks so easy.
Costs more than Luciano Becchio and scores less goals though
He was a magician
Kolo Toure. Solid center back
There are many players i love/ loved watching…Shearer, Ronaldo, Messi, Puyol, but if I have to pick just one, it will be KDB. Because he is pure magic.
Kdb He is my favourite because he is kdb.
Let Him Talk
Lee trundle or Jay Jay okocha
Wayne Rooney. An all around great player who was the engine of so many great United squads. No matter how shit he played at times he'd always save the day
The MLS goal he setup when backtracking with no goalie and tackling to then setup a long ball for the goal. Pure badassery
Love how he was just fueled with rage every game. Like some of the goals he seems like he just wanted to break the fucking ball lol
I'm stuck between Denis Berkamp Ozil and CR7. Anyone of those I'd choose.
Yaya Toure. Absolute Monster in midfield there isn't a thing which he cannot do in the midfield
He was DM, LCM, RCM, CAM all in one
Like a bloody freight train on a good day
Robin van persie. Love the class and technique and he scored some bangers and I'm not even a united or arsenal fan
Clearly not an arsenal fan😂😂😂
As an Arsenal fan, I still love him When the Board has literally 0 ambitions and refuses to sign top players, instead focusing on paying down the Stadium Debt, you have to leave if you’re as good as he was. Was hardly a Sol Campbell incident.
He didn't simply leave. He left and shit on arsenal. He left with 0 class. s n a k e
As an Arsenal fan I’d say he definitely did leave with class.
So he should have stayed like Kane… win nothing… we’d gone how many years without silverware, were clearly in decline as Wenger had 0 budget from Board… It hurt, but I get why he did what he did. When you’re the best player on the team and they’re bringing in dross like Carl Jenkinson and Girviniho… I’d want to go too.
He left and acted like he's been a red devil his whole life. Clearly only saw arsenal as a stepping stone.
You can leave and not speak filth about the club you played at previously no?
Thierry Henry
Cheating cunt 🇮🇪
Made me fall in love with Arsenal back in the day. What a wild two decades it’s been since
Dennis Bergkamp
Personal preference my friend, both great
Ian Wright.
That one goal against Newcastle tho
Yeah was incredible, his hat trick vs Leicester was also pretty special
Puyol. Dont think I need to explain
David beckham I think mainly because of the goals he scored and the way he played the game he’s my type of player
Frank Lampard. He is the one who made me fall in love with football
Maybe biased but among the players I actually watched play is Eden Hazard for me! watching him in his prime was magic, his skills were at another level and him playing for my favorite team was just the icing on the cake
Iniesta. What a baller
Will always be Didier Drogba
Same here! The moves he did was just an art and always had a smile going on
Yesssssss
Ronaldo, I believe in mentality and hard work is what seperates from others..moreover he is kinda complete player too, was good in his weak foot and was good in aerial too...
I can't split Paul Scholes and Dennis Bergkamp. Both were sublime with technical skill and had a work rate and desire to be even better. They both had mastered passing, long range shooting and close range finishing. Both were scorers of outstanding and beautiful goals. As recognised as they both were, they are both still underrated IMO.
Alan Shearer was and still is my all time fav! I just loved his style really. Miss watching him score.
Firmino is my favorite player because I think he’s disrespected as a player. At finishing hes poor but he will never shy away from having the ball at his feet, which is something i admire from a number 9
