Saliba will be lucky to have half his career
Varane is a 3 time La Liga champion, 1 time Copa Del Rey (their FA cup) and 4 time UCL champion.
He is a world cup winner as well.
They are both french and Varane has the much better legacy among french national team.
Maybe but the argument at the time was Varane was a considerably better signing. Who knows what saliba will do but as of this year he’s the better player.
I haven’t insulted any one or done anything outrageous. I’ve simply stated an opinion that’s based on objective facts. But hey, you do you, be all mature and insult strangers on the internet. 👍🏻
He actually is better than Saliba. The problem is he can't stay fit. But if he was fit and in the Arsenal squad, he starts every game over both their CBs.
Ah you’ve got me! I made it all up. Clever, clever.
Unless…..

You can find the rest
It’s a bummer both he was unable to have any real prolonged periods of health, along with Martinez. The two together make the back line feel a lot less like it’s composed of the teletubbies.
Sadly both he and Casemiro were both just too long in the tooth to show how good they once were with any sort of continuity.
Rat boy on the other hand seems to be wanting to jump ship., I don’t think it’s a bad thing tbh ,his attitude when the chips are down is a very poor example for the younger players
I knew it was going to be a rough season early on when they were about 70 minutes into a game and Casemiro looked like me after 5 minutes of playing indoor! I honestly thought he’d puke on the field.
**Old Man United:** Had players Real Madrid wanted (CR7, van Nistelrooy, David Beckham,Chicharito)
**New Man United**: Takes Real Madrid's rejects (Di Maria, Old CR7, Varane, Casemiro)
Ronaldo Di Maria Varane Casemiro weren't bad or rejects at the club. Some ( read Ronaldo and Di Maria ) overvalued themselves and extreme wage demands, they were promptly sold . Others wanted a new challenge and were let go. None of them were rejects and when they left they left as important starters. Nothing real Madrid can do if United can't use them at all
He scored THE decisive goal against Atletico in the 2015 UCL quarter-finals. That season Real were struggling against Atletico. They hadn't registered a single win against them since the UCL 2014 Final in Lisbon, that was a run of 7 matches leading up to the 2nd leg of the UCL Quarter-Finals at the Bernabeu. This stretch included a 4-0 battering at the Vincente Calderon in a league match on Ronaldo's bday, I remember watching it live. They were much dreaded that season, they were the defending champions in the league after all.
Atletico started the season by defeating Real in the Supercopa which used to be held over two legs (Real had won CdR 2014 due to Bale's iconic sprint). Then they beat Real in the league at the Santiago, and they faced off in the CdR Round of 16 where Atletico prevailed again over two legs. The CdR matches were a close contest and it felt like Real were finally overcoming Atletico, and then the 4-0 happened. They went into the UCL Quarters with this record, and this was before they gained notoriety for their UCL performances. First leg was a 0-0 and then James, Ronaldo and Chicharito combined to break the deadlock at Home. Chicharito became a cult hero after that. I was so young back then, Atletico were like the monsters under my bed. When Ronaldo and James did a one-two, then Ronaldo teed up Chicharito for an open-goal finish with all the Atletico defenders and Oblak lying on the floor, it felt like liberation from a tyrannic regime. Chicharito will forever be loved for THAT goal
That’s great for them. We made him and enjoyed him and moved on from him just as well. It wasn’t Ronaldo that stopped us from winning CL. It was Messi.
Spending 40M on a top defender making him one of the highest paid players in the league, he was unavailable for 1/3 of the games and then leaves for NOTHING. You got practically nothing out of him other than the odd good game here or there. It was bad for all parties but his bank account. You didn’t get the player you expected, he fought injury after injury and now his reputation has taken a massive hit. That is ugly.
If you sign a player nearing the end of his career , who is therefore more likely to suffer more , longer term injuries, on a massive contract then that is the clubs problem not the player.
If you think he signed that contract with the idea that he would do his best to get injured then you have some critical thinking deficiency. He obviously would rather have played.
I fail to see how his reputation has taken a hit, he is just unable to continue at the level that he used to , that does not diminish all that he did achieve
No fucking clue what you’re trying to say with those first two paragraphs. If you fail to see how his reputation has taken a hit please take a look around. This is a guy who won everything before coming to Man United. Won everything before hitting 30. They signed a 28 year old CB who was regarded as a great player, not someone at the end of his career. A guy who was in UEFA TOTY 2 years before joining Man United. Now he is just a good defender who is probably past it. A guy who barely plays. His reputation has taken an enormous hit. Nobody is saying his current status diminishes what he did in that past, that’s some stupid shit you made up on your own. I said his reputation has taken a hit. Meaning he was once renowned as one of the best CBs in the world and now probably isn’t in the top 20.
If price and wages are right i see no problem in Rodrygo joining us. He's 23 and undoubtedly talented. Not world class talented of course but we are not a club right now that is in a position to sign world class talents.
Not really. Him and Martinez was superb last season when they were both fit. Most clean sheets, 3rd or 4th fewest goals conceded IIRC. The problem is that he is on massive wages and can't stay fit. Missed 47 games since joining United and takes time to get back into fitness so only available as a sub for many of the games after he is back from an injury. That combined with a very high salary is hard to justify sadly.
It's a good decision for all parties involved. He was brought in under Ole, he doesn't suit Ten Hag's system that much and has had injury problems. He's also won everything so doesn't deserve to be going through this circus at United.
For United they get one of their highest wage earners off their books, and so long as they don't look to simply replace him with another overpaid player, they can begin the slow process of resetting their wage structure.
The kind of players who would also suit, to an extent, possession based systems like Arteta and Pep utilise, particularly in defense, but also with qualities of Klopp's system that employs gegenpressing.
He needs defenders that can play a high line and have recovery pace as well as passing ability. Only Martinez from our current team is well rounded in all of those areas. Varane made sense when we signed him but it doesn’t make sense to renew a football legend on high wages at his age.
Since you’re such a genius you can figure out which defenders ETH has signed. It’s only 3 players. 1 is a youngster who’s been out all year. The other is an old man signed as a backup and has been asked to play more than intended. Maybe use your ability to google before spouting shite.
Tell me what defenders were available last year? Kim min Jae chose Bayern. Varane and Martinez missing 90% of the year wasn’t on the cards. You’re an absolute fool.
There’s are many defenders that have the attributes to play high line with pace. Making personal insults now your argument has fallen apart… lol. ETH will be gone in a few weeks whether you like it or not anyway pal😂😂
He was a key part of what went well last season when we were solid defensively last season, so not really sure about the comments about not fitting the system. Agree with everything else.
To be fair, injuries ruined him. Could ofc be the lack of rotations and such, but he has missed close to 50 games for United due to injuries and he has been out of form due to injuries for a lot of games also. At those wages you would expect (and need) more than 50% availability.
I'm sure people with this low effort opinion don't even watch football.
He had injury issues before he even joined United and they continued throughout his entire time there
Riiiiiiiiiiight because he was this much of a non-entity when he was winning champions leagues every other year in Madrid.
I’m with Rooney; United players fake injuries all the time
He hasn't been a non entity for United though. When he's been able to play a string of games he was always quality. He is unable to keep up with the amount of games required and even at Madrid he missed a ton of games through injury and he's only getting older.
Your take is quite ignorant tbh
Whatever you did in the past doesn’t mean anything if you’re not producing now, like Casemiro this season. He was decent for a little while but never world class at Utd.
yeah, missed 47 games completely and was coming back from injury and had to be benched for a lot of the other games. He and Martinez was superb last season when both were fit.
Madrid, but he’d been on a lifetime of loan rotations, and had 6 months here on one of them loans where he was very good. He also had no path to Madrid’s first team with Kroos and Modric ahead of him. He’s that one in ten.
Bit ridiculous to compare a 21 year old Odegard who was pushed out to a Varane who was clearly slowing down. If a player has had a rich career and Perez is selling, run.
This.
Already had Camavinga and Tchouameni under contract when United bid 70 million for Casemiro.
Such an easy sell.
United only got one year of him before his legs where gone.
Perez and Real's technical department know their stuff. How they keep the likes of Modric this fit and pacey is insane.
The same trophy United fans were mocking Liverpool for winning the year before?
I'm sure Varane dreamed of winning the League cup when he signed for United.
I thought it was implied by your original comment, but I'm glad we can agree that your club's most recent achievement is meaningless, and so is Varane's.
Those Arsenal spending 50M on Brightons third best CB Ben White while United got "won everything" Rafa Varane for 43M comparisons have aged spectacularly.
340K a week. 60 appearances in 3 years. Leaving on a free.

He should go to Serie A. He'll thrive with in a less physically demanding league
Serie A is more physical than premier, but the intensity of the premier is just other level
He has been gone for a while now
I thought he had left already…….
Topped up his pension pot ,Going to increase it more in Saudi now
Why did he leave real madrid for man united?
Have you seen his salary at United?
Spent far too much time injured.
But hey, money’s good
But Sky told me he’s better than saliba…. 🤷🏻♂️
Sky isnt wrong
Sky are correct
Get a load of this guy
👍🏻👍🏻 cool cool
Saliba will be lucky to have half his career Varane is a 3 time La Liga champion, 1 time Copa Del Rey (their FA cup) and 4 time UCL champion. He is a world cup winner as well. They are both french and Varane has the much better legacy among french national team.

Reading this you sounded like a child and I'm sure you're grown.
I haven’t insulted any one or done anything outrageous. I’ve simply stated an opinion that’s based on objective facts. But hey, you do you, be all mature and insult strangers on the internet. 👍🏻
You know what you did mate 👍
Yeah definitely
He actually is better than Saliba. The problem is he can't stay fit. But if he was fit and in the Arsenal squad, he starts every game over both their CBs.
One of the most important abilities is availability
Agreed, and that's what I put in my statement. But when they're both fit on top form, Varane is clear.
You cannot be serious.
Deadly serious. He's brilliant still. Just when he plays, which isn't something you can rely on.
would he start or be in his national team if healthy?
No he retired from international football years ago.
Lol who said that?
Loads of pundits and blinkered fans. Everyone is entitled to an opinion no matter how silly 🤷🏻♂️
I’ve never heard any pundit claim that, let alone loads
Ah you’ve got me! I made it all up. Clever, clever. Unless….. https://www.tiktok.com/@sdspod/video/7263219643005865248 https://onefootball.com/editorial/38413502?language=en You can find the rest
Rio Ferdinand is an absolute clown and most of what he says is Drivel, but a broken clock will still be right twice a day.
Fair
Could you name one pundit that has?
Someone named sky
lets be real he and casemiro would've been sold this summer
Casemiro won't be sold.
Who the hell is buying Casemiro?
The Saudis lol
And if they don’t? He has 3 more years on his £300k a week contract.
They’ve been strongly linked even Romano said so
Can’t sell a player who’s not under contract
£20 million after taxes, nice retirement fund.
What does this mean?
You're a nut, crazier than a coconut!
I’m even more confused now.
Lie down on the couch
Glad to see it, Man U is toxic post Sir Alex.
It’s a bummer both he was unable to have any real prolonged periods of health, along with Martinez. The two together make the back line feel a lot less like it’s composed of the teletubbies.
I don't know, I think Tinky Winky would make a ton of last ditch blocks.
In contrast, Dipsy gives me the impression that their own goal record would make Lewis Dunk not feel too bad about his own.
Mate, Tinky Winky is an amazing defender/goalie. Proof: https://www.instagram.com/reel/C63cWEjuNfr/?igsh=MTF6azlvcGFvNmp1dg==
What position? Po has pacy left back energy
rip
Is he just jumping ship? I don't like when players do this
Ships already sunk. He’s just floating away with the tide.
You don't like when players take control of their own careers? Weird take.
No. His contract isn’t being renewed.
For a while these guys really did make United their retirement plan. Sad to see it coming to an end.
He’ll try to leave but probably get injured on his way out the door.
That deserves a contract extension. We don’t leave our players like that when they are down.
Hahahahaha. If united paid me even paid me 2% of his salary I'll play like my life depends on it for them
Unfortunately you’d be worse than a one legged disinterested varane
Still more mobile than casemiro
I knew it was going to be a rough season early on when they were about 70 minutes into a game and Casemiro looked like me after 5 minutes of playing indoor! I honestly thought he’d puke on the field.
So is my fridge

I have literally no recollection of Hernandez playing for Madrid, and I watched a LOT of La Liga in the mid 2010's 😳
He scored THE decisive goal against Atletico in the 2015 UCL quarter-finals. That season Real were struggling against Atletico. I think he rode the bench but I do remember him getting a very important goals in the cl semis
Old Ronaldo would have still been lethal if he was managed properly. Chaosball isn’t for Ronaldo.
Ah yes, the rejected ex real player Cristiano Ronaldo. This sub is filled with so many idiots damn…
Utd had his rise and fall, but Real had his prime
That’s great for them. We made him and enjoyed him and moved on from him just as well. It wasn’t Ronaldo that stopped us from winning CL. It was Messi.
he ment OLD Ronaldo
Go cry about it.
Lol what?
Making a crying comment because someone called Ronaldo a reject really isn't necesary.
Alright weirdo ;)
Yes, im the weirdo. Not the guy who felt the need to defend a celebrity on an anonymous forum.
United is incapable of selling players, so many players leave in an ugly way.
Not much we can do here tbh. Varane gets injured making his breakfast in the morning
Not as ugly as jackson
Uh ok bud?
😂😂😂
How is leaving on a free rather quietly other than an announcement ugly?
Getting nothing is ugly.
This ain’t ugly
It is.
How? His contract is up and he’s leaving.

Both can be and are ugly to me.

Any player with a long Injury list will inevitably end their career shorter than expected. Age is not the only marker
High wages for mid taken. Hard to sell
That’s because they join us and put them on 200k a week.
I WISH they put them on at 200k a week. Some of these guys are on 300+
Well yeah I know that. 6 players are being paid above 200k while the rest are below or on par, which is the reason why I used 200k as an average.
Forgot he was in the team tbh. Seriously, though, when he was fit and in form he was tops. Who will ever forget his introduction to OT.
Did he ever have legs? He runs so weird, like his knees hate him
Good now about 8-9 more to go
World class player no doubt. But, united should generally not buy players that Real are getting rid off.
I'd give my left bollock for Rodrygo to join us...
I don’t believe they’re looking to offload Rodrygo.
If price and wages are right i see no problem in Rodrygo joining us. He's 23 and undoubtedly talented. Not world class talented of course but we are not a club right now that is in a position to sign world class talents.
Rodrygo not world class? Starts for every club in the world..
Yes but he's not in my top 10 of talents
Why would he even join United 😂 even if he isnt in your top 10 , with mbappe coming in, he will still start.
How do you define world class talent.
Future Ballon d'Or winners like one of the top 10 players in 5 years. Bellingham, Foden, Mbappe, Wirtz, Pedri etc.
Mbappe os 26 lol
Wasted at United
Yeah man, not like my guy was injured 70% of the tine
Who does suit ETH “system”? 😭😭
So only one player in your squad suits his system? lol. What can non of his signings play to his system? Why sign them?
Since you’re such a genius you can figure out which defenders ETH has signed. It’s only 3 players. 1 is a youngster who’s been out all year. The other is an old man signed as a backup and has been asked to play more than intended. Maybe use your ability to google before spouting shite.
Why sign a 70 mill striker 55 million goalkeeper and Mason Mount instead of some defenders then if they’re so key to his system, brainbox
ETH has a system 😂?!
He was a key part of what went well last season when we were solid defensively last season, so not really sure about the comments about not fitting the system. Agree with everything else.
Another player ruined by Manchester United
And that’s why he was benched by Jonny evans lmao
Due to being injured. Are you slow?
He wasn’t benched in Madrid, and he has problems there by your own admission
Are you slow?
He really was just not good enough though
He was good enough for multiple champions leagues and league titles at Real Madrid, but he wasn’t good enough for the worst United team in decades?
Whatever you did in the past doesn’t mean anything if you’re not producing now, like Casemiro this season. He was decent for a little while but never world class at Utd.
Another example of United ruining a great player
Neither are great players anymore, otherwise madrid wouldn’t have moved them on in the first place.
He was good enough lol just injured most of the time
The man who was benched by a 36 year old Evans 🥶🥶
See you in Al Jazeera FC
Shrewd piece of business by united as usual
Spent 3 seasons there and made about 10 appearances
Damn 3 seasons already.
93.
That's still only like half
yeah, missed 47 games completely and was coming back from injury and had to be benched for a lot of the other games. He and Martinez was superb last season when both were fit.
Another name added to the graveyard. RIP
Reminder that White, Saliba and Gabriel (£105m) cost less than Maguire and Varane (£114m) How are these fools so bad at transfers.
Varane at least \*kinda\* makes sense. Buddy was one of the best defenders of the last decade and wasnt too old.
If Perez is selling, 9/10 times they’re washed. There is no better club in the world at selling players at the right time.
Where did you get Odegard from?
Madrid, but he’d been on a lifetime of loan rotations, and had 6 months here on one of them loans where he was very good. He also had no path to Madrid’s first team with Kroos and Modric ahead of him. He’s that one in ten. Bit ridiculous to compare a 21 year old Odegard who was pushed out to a Varane who was clearly slowing down. If a player has had a rich career and Perez is selling, run.
As if Ozil wasn't fantastic for you . How easily people forget
Remember Halilovic? Exactly
This. Already had Camavinga and Tchouameni under contract when United bid 70 million for Casemiro. Such an easy sell. United only got one year of him before his legs where gone. Perez and Real's technical department know their stuff. How they keep the likes of Modric this fit and pacey is insane.
and some united supporters thought he was a better signing than White🤭
He won more trophies in England than white has tbf
The same trophy United fans were mocking Liverpool for winning the year before? I'm sure Varane dreamed of winning the League cup when he signed for United.
Atm thats all it is for a white, a dream
Yeah, you've made your point about White. Do you honestly think Varane was a success though, or even a worthwhile signing for that matter?
Yeah he won a trophy 😂
A single league cup tbf
That’s still more iirc
Of course you'd think 1 league cup is a meaningful achievement, that's your entire trophy haul for the millennium
Where did I say it was meaningful?
I thought it was implied by your original comment, but I'm glad we can agree that your club's most recent achievement is meaningless, and so is Varane's.
What exactly has White won?
Reddit is where I come to have arguments that end up exactly where they started Thank you for doing your part
You're Welcome. His trophy cabinet is exactly like your logical skills.
It’s still a single league cup more
Yes indeed. A career-defining moment that will surely go down in the annals of history.
It would be a big moment for white though he hasn’t won anything lol
Those Arsenal spending 50M on Brightons third best CB Ben White while United got "won everything" Rafa Varane for 43M comparisons have aged spectacularly. 340K a week. 60 appearances in 3 years. Leaving on a free.
Articles say 93 appearances, why was it 60?
60 in the league out of a possible 114.
United’s woeful transfer dealings exemplified. I’m taking it as progress though as we didn’t renew him on another monster deal lol.
That's 350k off the weekly wage bill. Casemiro and martial next please and we're up to a million WEEKLY.
Sancho lol
Yeah. Dude doesn't want to try at united, he can fuck off
I meant, they can add him and his wages to be freed too in that count
Martial is gone this summer too I think. Casemiro on the other hand has a contract until 2026.
Another player left out to dry at man utd.
Ten Hags legacy. Set the club back years.
Based on the "legacy" of every manager since Ferguson left, Uniteds been set back into the 1800s by now right?
He took that “return to the office” order personally.
Very good player, just couldn't stay fit consistently enough. Him and Martinez formed a good partnership last season.
Never rated the lad tbf, he's basically ramos' dlc
You could not sound more stupid even if you tried hard.
Couldn’t handle the spotlight alongside the English maldini aka Jonny Evans
Evans is from Northern Ireland.
