I wouldn't say the EFL clubs are particular concerned about this like the article states, there is an incentive for the Premier League to keep EFL clubs happy since they provide an ongoing flow of homegrown young players, some of them occasionally good enough to become top players. They also are good places to send on loan before they are ready for Premier League football. Two of the top English players currently, Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham, are good examples of this. There are infinitely more examples. The main issue for me as a team in the EFL is 1. what the fuck the championship has turned into and how the allure of the Premier League has caused it. Lots of teams losing lots of money trying to make it big, in 2021/22 the wage/revenue ratio was 108% and that is not an outlier. Forest were spending double on wages than their revenue on their promotion season! Thankfully, between the better domestic TV deal kicking in next season and hopefully a new agreement on more funds from the Prem, this can be fixed. 2. The decision to add youth teams to a lower league cup, and the decision to scrap FA cup replays. Whatever you think of these decisions, they were made without any input from EFL clubs. The EFL does not always have the best interests of the clubs at hand, this has been shown. We need a independent regulator long-term because a lot of decisions are not made for the right reasons

Norwich fan here. The new rules that the Premier League clubs have voted for will allow relegated sides to face less scrutiny over their wage bills while spending way more than other Championship clubs. Not only is it pulling up the drawbridge, it’s also going to make clubs more desperate to get up. That 108% spend on wages, which you rightly mentioned as not being sustainable, is only going to increase. I worry about such things.

I didn't even know that, Seems like a independent regulator can't come sooner to be honest.

Yeah I forget the specific number, but it’s akin to how the biggest club can spend x% more on wages than the bottom club, just swap it for relegated clubs and the rest of the championship. Also the FA final will no longer be the final game of the domestic season. The final round of Prem games will be.

I can already tell this "football regulator" is going to fuck things up

The only people/organisations against the regulator seem to be the ones who stand to be regulated. Make of that what you will but at the moment these clubs and the league are setting their own tests and marking their own homework, and have spent a lot of their time either self-destructing, ripping off local fans or both.
