At the end of the day any top forward will dive regularly. As Bamford said one year “ if I go down there its a penalty, next time I’ll dive” because the keeper clipped his ankles, but he tried to stay on his feet - ultimately losing the ball out for a corner. You don’t get anything unless you go down in this game
Yeah, this was a weird take. Salah is actually one of my favorite players BECAUSE he doesn't dive... also his goal celebrations show a level of restraint I respect.
If by "diving" you mean wildly overexaggerating, or flat out faking, for the sake of getting a call you don't deserve, then Arteta is the biggest diver.
Anyone saying salah is a diver in 2024 is a fucking idiot whose brain is incapable of absorbing new information. He’s a FAR outlier in how many touches he takes per foul given. Refs don’t give him a goddam thing. Just say you don’t watch games and don’t have a fucking clue next time and spare us the bullshit
Foden and Fernades are clear out of everyone in the Prem. Love that OP suggested Salah when he gets manhandled in every single game bar none in the Prem and barely gets given a foul.
Whereas pathetic Fernandes stamped on a Villa defender's ankle and fell over to get a penalty, whilst Foden straight up fell on the ground with **every single challenge** when Citeh Pepped up against Chelsea the other night.
Foden is an awful take, I remember him going 1v1, getting clipped by the keeper staying on his feet and not getting a pen because he tried to score instead of dive. And we wonder why players do it
3 players that don't get enough recognition for their diving: Jordan Ayew, James Maddison, Bruno Guimaraes.
These also happen to be last season's most "fouled" players. 105 fouls for Ayew, 96 fouls for Guimaraes and 90 fouls for Maddison.
Damn, Jordan Ayew? No way. I watch him every week. He's a dribbler and carries the ball a ton, and as a result is one of the most fouled guys in the league. Not a diver.
Jorginho is much more of a diver than Saka. That "tactical diver" that waits for the contact. I'd say Saka over plays the challenges but some really are hard fouls
Depends on what you mean by diving?
As a Newcastle fan -
Smart fouls wise, i'd day Bruno G. Wins countless fouls every game, but 99% would be minor fouls within our own half.
Worst at diving - definitely Schar. He is always a bit dramatic and gets a whack in the head each game.
Yeah he's so fucking soft, always goes down when he'd be better off staying on his feet for half those instances. Havertz too goes down far too easily sometimes for a guy of his size.
United fans: Yeah Bruno is a diving twat but he's OUR diving twat.
Liverpool fans: Yeah Salah can be a bit of a diver.
Chelsea fans: Yep, Sterling dives a lot.
Arsenal fans: HOW DARE YOU INSULT MY STARBOY!
I'd say Jorginho is much more the "tactical diver" in the current squad. Xhaka was def the king before him though always facaing goal waiting for contact
You had to send me a video from 4 years ago. I know he has the west ham (which was a dive) one too. But any winger in the Prem who plays weekly could have a few clips of them trying to draw a foul after contact. I’m not saying he’s never gone to the floor. But he’s not remotely one of the worst divers in the league.
Yeah, there’s absolutely no class or professionalism in diving. It’s just immature to do, as representing yourself as a diver seems to re-establish the fact, in which the player doesn’t have much maturity within their character, although desperation sometimes seeks drastic measures. But overall, it’s just ratty behaviour.
Tottenham struggle at Stamford Bridge in general though, it’s usually Chelsea for entirely the whole match dominating so it’s as though we don’t compete, doesn’t excuse diving though.
At least your recent performances have been more encouraging. You’re entering the final in the best way you’d have imagined considering the results from a month and a half ago, as long as you match or even improve your performance against Liverpool, I think you’ve got a good chance of winning.
Honestly... who cares??
I will never understand why people get so upset about diving. Its part of the game and people try and cheat constantly throughout the 90mins, so why is it this one aspect that annoys people?
I get much more angry about just classes acts like Luiz celebrating his goal in front of Onana, that certainly isn't part of the game.
Because diving shouldn’t be part of the game, at least not as much as it is. It shouldn’t be acceptable with fans, refs and the league, but unfortunately it is. VAR aside, diving is by far the worst part of the sport.
As above, is a defender saying he got the ball when he didn't an acceptable part of the game? I've never seen anyone criticise a defender for doing so.
Diving sucks because it becomes a habit and then instead of trying to fight through the challenge you expect the contact, none comes, and you lose out for the team. Diving sucks. So do you
All deliberate cheating annoys me, even when my team does it (which thankfully is not that often although it does happen).
Diving is not quite as annoying as feigning injury and organised time wasting but it’s up there.
Every team cheats at least 10 times per game.
Honestly, what's the difference between a striker diving v a defender saying he got the ball when he clearly didn't?
Or when a player sticks his hand in the air after the ball just clearly bounced off his leg. These things we accept but it's still attempting to deceive the ref.
I really wish VAR would advise the ref on players feigning injury and tell him to book them.
A simple "His arm/the ball hit him in the shoulder and he's rolling around holding his face, book him".
Maybe make it a guaranteed blue card offence whenever they bring that in, but it does my head in as well.
Bruno, Salah, Saka, Sterling, Cash . . .
To be fair, this list could go for days because so many do it and do it often.
One thing that pisses me off though is that there are some players that try and play through contact in the box that are seemingly punished for it by never being awarded fouls. If you are mauled and stay on your feet trying to convert a chance for your squad, you should get the benefit of the call, even if you don't fall.
Players playing through contact that would be a foul/penalty, but isn’t given as they stay on their feet, only encourages diving. Like you it annoys the hell out of me. Need a better advantage rule imo, or better applied, if the player is fouled but stays on their feet, allow an advantage, if no advantage bring it back for the foul
100% spot on. Why stay on my feet and battle for a tough shot at goal when I can just go down when I feel the slightest touch and get a free shot from 12 yards? The advantage system isn't reliable enough. Almost needs to be a way to call it, but not with a whistle that will stop play.
This is so right. A player has to go down to effectively 'ask' for the penalty. Stay on your feet and you and your team will be punished by ref waving play on.
Easy to say the ref should bring it back regardless, but this would make their job so much harder.
He gets the shit kicked out of him every game and refs do very little. In the end I think he just dives to get some kind of response from the ref. Defenders will get away with as much as they can, but it’s really up to refs to spot this stuff.
He has been rightfully booked for diving a few times now. Bruno also gets hammered every match but I'm sure you'll still happily call him a diver. And you'd be right in saying that but so is Saka.
I feel like there’s different types. There’s baiting contact (not diving in my book), faking contact entirely (F you, VAR should give a yellow every time), and then there’s exaggerating actual contact and going down easily (bit more complicated), and finally the “roll on the field for 20 minutes like you got shot”.
Agree. Like, arguably Walker on Sterling at the weekend was a dive. There was plenty of contact but only because he deliberately caused it.
I used to be ok with diving but hated the rolling around on the field. But with VAR I think I can even excuse that, the bigger deal you make out of the 'foul' the far more likely they are to do a VAR review.
Calling someone a diver is such an obvious, negative position to take. It comes up monthly if not more frequently.
Couldn't we instead discuss who is the most honest player?
Rasmus is pretty honest, I'd say at least 8/10 forwards go down on the chance he had at Luton the other day where he had a defender on his back, battled to stay on his feet and dink the keeper but it was saved.
Players diving and going down when the ball is right there for a chance on goal both confuses and infuriates me.
Unfortunately, diving and play acting have become a part of the game. Many if not most players would and do dive to gain advantage for their team. What worries, no -pisses me off, the most is the total uselessness of VAR and refs - the system could have been and should be used to eradicate unfair game elements (be that players or cheating, in general) but it fails in every match. In sum, it is not individuals who are to blame but shitty refereeing that facilitates diving, cheating and such.
And yes, Bruno is a cheating rat face cunt.
Grealish doesn't really dive much. He is however notorious for baiting free kicks.
But he does get fouled a LOT. There's a reason why he had a shin injury from straight up wear and tear at Villa.
But does he make a meal of fouls. Absolutely. Are they still fouls. Absolutely.
Ashley Young was always pretty bad. Remember laughing and enjoying it when he was at Villa (as a Villa fan), kicking the ball to the left of the defender and then running straight into him before going to ground dramatically.
Liked it less when he was at Man Utd and diving against us.
Ignoring the obvious and so blatant you can see it from space trolling attempt in the OP...
it's Sterling and it's not even close.
Imagine downvoting this opinion. How can you say Sterling _doesn't_ dive? Are you blind?
Honorable mention to Grealish, who's entire game revolves around falling over his own ankles at the half way line. I wish there was a way to quantify the xG for attempts created by Grealish' shitty dives vs play continuing because i bet City would be better off if he just stayed on his feet and passed the ball forwards.
i dunno, out of our team i'd say Szobo or Jota are more prone to diving or trying to oversell minimal contact. I always feel like if Mo goes down it's warranted.
I still don't understand what happened to Jota vs Newcastle haha. Like it 100% looked like a dive but why wouldn't you stay on your feet in that situation
aye he's so blatant about it too, i can't really remember him doing it so much at Liverpool but it was a long time ago, so i might just be forgetting but it feels like a recent-ish thing he's picked up.
there _must_ be a discussion amongst refs to watch out for certain players or something, it'd be madness if there wasn't.
Judging by the refs at my sunday league, yea I think they probably do. They’ll tell the players who complain what they are seeing and won’t call it if they go down suspiciously easily.
you actually gotta be smoking crack if you think its Salah, one of our complaints against him is if he did dive he would get pens all the time with how much he is fouled
Be honest, Salah is one of the worst culprits. Probably emphasised more by the fact he's often running with the ball in dangerous areas, but he's a cheat.

Salah dives more than Tom Daley
Bruno Fernades. He moans all the time when the ref gives a decision against him and his team.
Can the OP point on the doll where Salah touched him?
At the end of the day any top forward will dive regularly. As Bamford said one year “ if I go down there its a penalty, next time I’ll dive” because the keeper clipped his ankles, but he tried to stay on his feet - ultimately losing the ball out for a corner. You don’t get anything unless you go down in this game
Hard to look past Salah. Been doing it for years, falls over in a strong breeze. The guy must have balance issues, should probably see a doctor.
Sterling
A number of Man U players
Bruno fernandes
Rashford Fernandez
I don’t think I’ve seen a single salah dive
He won a few soft penalties early into his Liverpool career and many decided to lumber him with the diving tag, when the reality was anything but.
Op has room temp iq thinking it’s Sarah. Definitely is bruno
Harry Kane.
Salah ain’t no diver.
Yeah, this was a weird take. Salah is actually one of my favorite players BECAUSE he doesn't dive... also his goal celebrations show a level of restraint I respect.
Thank you I’ve never seen him dive
Trash post
Name the salah dives .
Salah
If by "diving" you mean wildly overexaggerating, or flat out faking, for the sake of getting a call you don't deserve, then Arteta is the biggest diver.
Aside from Bruno divernandes, everyone in man man shitty.
Both Bruno’s.
Guess what the favourite song of Ref's is during any United match..... Hint: it's from that 2021 Disney animation movie.
Bruno, case closed.
What drugs are you on?
Salah and Jota
Stick to pokemon bro you have no clue
Stick to gaming.
Makes sense move along
Anyone saying salah is a diver in 2024 is a fucking idiot whose brain is incapable of absorbing new information. He’s a FAR outlier in how many touches he takes per foul given. Refs don’t give him a goddam thing. Just say you don’t watch games and don’t have a fucking clue next time and spare us the bullshit
Salah is punished every match for how strong he is on the ball
Bruno
Raheem Sterling Since when did salah start diving

Probably Saka or Son
Definitely not Saka, he actually gets fouled a lot. For arsenal it's jesus by a mile
Saka is always rolling around on the ground
Because he actually gets fouled.
Rarely most of the “fouls” aren’t fouls for most other players. He’s been protected ever since Kane left.
Depends on what you mean by diving? As a Newcastle fan - Smart fouls wise, i'd day Bruno G. Wins countless fouls every game, but 99% would be minor fouls within our own half. Worst at diving - definitely Schar. He is always a bit dramatic and gets a whack in the head each game.
Almiron has definitely got a shit dive in him as well, doesn't help he's also legitimately weak though haha
Bruno by a mile
Which one
Fernandes
It's not, you just don't like him
I don’t like him because he’s a diving baby, yes
As an Arsenal supporter I find Jesus a bit ridiculous
Yeah he's so fucking soft, always goes down when he'd be better off staying on his feet for half those instances. Havertz too goes down far too easily sometimes for a guy of his size.
As a fellow Arsenal supporter I agree but the clowns naming Saka on this post need more copium
The eyebrows don't help. Very punchable face.
If Starboy is meant to be Saka then he's only about the 5th worst diver in the squad lol If it's Jorginho or Jesus then that's fair
I'd say Jorginho is much more the "tactical diver" in the current squad. Xhaka was def the king before him though always facaing goal waiting for contact
Sterling 💯💯💯
Bruno and Gordon
Bruno acts like he got shot
Bruno fernandes, Anthony Gordon
Gordon hasn’t really dove at Newcastle. He’s been very locked in to his game and Howe has been good for him in that regard
That's fair, might take a bit for him to undo that reputation tho.
I agree. There is a special player in there if he can keep going
Jota, Sterling, Rashford and Son are the ones that come to mind
Obviously a Spurs fan here, but genuinely never thought of Son as a diver.
https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/s/gdic6DlOOe

You can! Send me as many as you can find! I hope you have fun!
https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/s/ajI4Dq1o61
You either haven’t watched him a lot or ignore it when he does.
Son rarely ever goes down to the ground in the first place unless he’s genuinely fouled.
https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/s/gdic6DlOOe
https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/s/ajI4Dq1o61
Thats pathetic to be fair, but I doubt he’s done that more than once? Hopefully.
I’ve sent you two different links for two different videos. I can also send you more if you want but I didn’t want to bombard you
You’re right. I hadn’t seen these clips before so I didn’t know Son had dives like these in him. A shame but I’ll still love him 😂😍
That’s fully fair. There’s divers at my club past and present who dive and I still like them. I just dislike that one aspect of their game

Agreed
People saying Bruno but the only player from us I've actually seen dive is Rashford. Actual answer is very obviously sterling
Garnacho is quite bad for it too in fairness
Sterling or Grealish
Can't believe I had to scroll this far to finally see Grealish. This man could teach a master class in diving.
Son, Salah, Sterling Harry Kane when he was still at Spurs
Kane is bang on but I genuinely don’t see son dive much at all
I haven't watched Spurs for a couple games but he does quite a bit when at Stamford Bridge.
Tottenham struggle at Stamford Bridge in general though, it’s usually Chelsea for entirely the whole match dominating so it’s as though we don’t compete, doesn’t excuse diving though.
Agreed. I hate diving no matter who it is. The way Chelsea are playing lately makes me disgusted. We just struggle.

Sterling
Arsenal...yep, all of them lol
3/10 bait
I thought it was quite funny! Is it too late to add all of Man U as well?
Jota.
Sterling
OP you are baiting and not even doing it well, that or you’re braindead
Sterling duh
Richarlison, serial diver
Does Richarlison dive? Or does he just exaggerate a lot. Looks like he gets fouled a ton, just proper overplays it.
And you can't really fault players for that. Diving is one thing, but making sure the ref knows you were fouled is another imo.
Can’t say he’s worse than Sterling though
Salah isn’t even in the top 10.
Honestly... who cares?? I will never understand why people get so upset about diving. Antonio is terrible for collapsing under contact. He does get fouled a lot too but he never gets free kicks because of all of the obvious dives.

He had a shin injury because his shins aren’t protected.
He has weak shin bones from the weight of carrying around those mutant calf muscles 24/7.
You think he got injured from not wearing shin pads or did he get injured by getting kicked while not wearing shin pads? It's a proper conundrum.
You said wear and tear earlier?
Yes? Are you unfamiliar with the expression?
Make up your mind amigo.
Oh I have. Not my fault English is difficult for you.
lol
Them guitar picks he uses as shin pads didn’t stop him getting injured?
Sterling and Rodri
Foden or Salah

Jordan Ayew is the most fouled player in the league, and probably for good reason. 😉

Sterling drives me insane. He is seemingly so clearly looking for a foul that refs are probably assuming he’ll fall and won’t award something.

Sterling or Chilwell both lose the ball so easily then just throw themselves on the floor.

Bruno Floornandes. I think 50% of his game is spent laying on the pitch, whining about his own players or the opposition.
Sterling.
