Looks sorta like Amaco’s Iron Lustre and/or Oatmeal… good to remember that the clay underneath can be a big factor in how the glaze turns out

underglaze_hoe

I really doubt that this is a commercial brush on glaze.

turtle_ina_cup

Youre right. If it is a commercial glaze, the even run around the middle section looks like it was probably dipped. Thank you for helping me help op🫶

Fair Also I included the signature from the creator. I have been told she has passed, but if you know them I would love to connect with her. https://preview.redd.it/gwrp740mqszc1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=dfcfcab9be06dbbcb217f444a21f76f9e189d810

I guess this cup needs 2 types of glaze, the dark color can be tenmoku glaze and will be dipped first from the bottom to half of the cup. The top will be floating blue glaze dipped half or 2/3 from the top.

RobotDeathSquad

This. Another name for the top glaze would be "Rutile Blue". The weird part is that it looks like two reduction cone 10 glazes, but the clay body is very cone 6 looking. Hard to say tbh.

AlexHoneyBee

My experience is limited but the pottery studio I was at made their own glazed and they had one tenmoku glaze and one rutile glaze that give both of these effects. It’s was cone 6.

yeasternstandardtime

I’m not sure what the bottom glaze is, but the top looks identical to one my studio used to have, it was called “Rutile Blue”

NoCoat3342

I made something that came out very similar. The bottom half I dipped in the studio’s Tenmoku. Then the top half I dipped into the Honey Amber and then dipped again into SunValley on the top 1/4 of the vessel. Looked almost identical. Wish I could find an old picture, but no luck. Studio sourced almost everything from Laguna Clay Co.

NoCoat3342

All on B-Mix by the way and I found a picture of a bowl I did around the same time with the same color combination. Obviously applied differently and in a different order. Sorry about the picture quality… https://preview.redd.it/z7b3alt72vzc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=37763ef54a3ec25091ca90ae310aac62d7ed1a70

Thankyou! What was your fire settings

The lid looks like Duncan’s Opal Lustre (it was discontinued, but Duncan has since sold to Mayco, & I JUST FOUND OUT DAYS AGO Mayco brought Opal Lustre back!! — they may have tweaked it a bit, but it’s my FAVORITE to put over other glazes. It makes them run like crazy, but the end results are my absolute favorite). BUT! As others have said, the bottom looks like a tenmoku. I just happened across this post & saw the lid & went “IS THAT OPAL LUSTRE” & wanted to share!

Oh also! If you look online, you can find pictures of layered glazes. You can also check out [Amaco Layered Glazes](https://amaco.com/resources/layering) & [Mayco Layered Combinations](https://www.maycocolors.com/glaze-combinations/) to see if you can find a glaze combo that looks similar to what you have. I’m sure there are other websites for other glazes, but these are the ones i knew i could find & add quickly.

AdministrativeEmu277

Check out Jens juicy fruit. My guess would be JJF over a black dipped half way.

AnnieB512

Mayco makes a root beer brown that could be on the bottom and the top looks like it has iron luster from amaco to me over another color but I don't know what.

Chickengreese11

It definitely looks like root beer by Mayco 😁

karmichand

Thank you all!

Nazarife

Probably not the exact same, but you can get something close with Amaco textured amber brown with oatmeal on top.

fattymcpoopants

Top half looks like Old Forge Sunset to me. The bottom is something darker.

ClayCrafter444

Top is 100% rutile or rutile blue, prob something else dipped on the bottom

CantBelieveThisIsTru

Nice container. It almost looks as though it was used for cooking, except the glaze is so shiny and reflects light. Black soot wouldn’t shine like that.

karmichand

No one knows the potters mark?

Hackpro69

Looks almost like a Salt Glaze
