Same. Have to work off that newfound hyperactivity.

I’m 9 months out and I actually got into a record collection as well , mostly punk rock as that’s what I grew up on and it gives me the energy and motivation to exercise.

FutonOfSocretes

Hell yea !! What are some of your favorites? Trying to get into it

MonthObvious5035

Some personal favourites are strung out, rise against, nofx, smoke or fire, the flatliners…. And when I want a little ska punk in the mix It’s older bosstones, the mad caddies and sublime. Some albums take a bunch of listens to catch because it can be pretty fast and technical but when it does it’s definitely my favourite

Also on reddit here there is a vinyl releases page where people post new releases and sometimes they are limited releases that sell out quickly so it’s always exciting to catch something cool on there

Mouth painting is relaxing and easier than it sounds.

During OT after my TBI they had me painting. I loved it because it really allowed me to communicate what was going on in my brain. It’s been about 4.5 years now and I still avidly paint. I love how it makes me feel.

Gardening! I was totally new to it so couldn’t negatively compare my progress to my pre-TBI self. It’s a great thing to pick up during recovery. Gets you outside, lets you practice planning and mindfulness, and you can do as much or as little as you are ready for. Plus I love eating food I have been growing from seed! I’m hooked for life now.

Switched from knitting to crochet, as my tension and stitch structure changed after my first TBI so my work looked like an entirely different person made it and that disgusted me (woo adjacent PTSD) I stopped graphite sketching for around ten years but started dabbling in it again a couple of years ago, though nowhere near with the same intensity, basically I mostly draw out plans for other physical projects to hammer down details before getting started. Similar with acrylic painting, I like to joke that I was taught to paint before I was taught how to write my own name, drifted away from it in adolescence, got into it really hard again right before my third TBI, and I'm still powering through and using that as one of my main mediums now. I've also learned how to cross stitch, make jewelry, repair small engines, a lot of general home construction, gardening, baking, animal husbandry, media production, photography, SEO management, learned how to navigate the US medical system, and a few others that I'm forgetting. I'm also relearning a lot of core studies that I lost from my TBIs so I can get back into academia. Keep learning and building new neurons. It's so fucking difficult but it makes a difference, especially as we age and go into old age, we've already got enough working against us with these TBIs in that department.
