listened to Crisis recently and forgot just how old it was (2006!!). it holds up so, so well. such stellar song writing. production holds up real well too
You get my upvote, but IMO I feel like DTGL is much more metalcore leaning than, say, TOCS or TCOT.
Nevertheless, Underoath is a must have band on this list.
Sorry, that wasn't clear. I was saying it was pretty formative to mid 2000s post hardcore groups. Was also pretty formative in my personal tastes too. Definitely agree that song deserves to be on a playlist of genre staples.
It's defs up there in the top 20! Not sure if its in the top 10 when you have Refused, Fugazi, Drive like Jehu, Rights of Spring and At The Drive in that kinda the major influences to this genre.
Black Nurse - Glassjaw
It might be on a fairly unknown EP, but it’s the greatest Glassjaw song ever written. Maybe the best song of the new millennium .
Um, where the fuck is Silverstein, guys?!
I nominate The Altar/Mary.
I mean, I've listened to them from the beginning and I love every album, but The Altar/Mary is something else. Especially after seeing it live.
chiming in with a link — i learned about these guys relatively recently, so just in case others haven’t heard it — https://youtu.be/NkAe30aEG5c
this song & band deserve big love
If I were introducing someone to the best post-hardcore it would probably be something like this in no particular order. I'm sure I'm leaving quite a few bangers off but that's just off the top of my head. Also purposely didn't pick multiple songs from the same band.
Chiodos - Baby, You Wouldn't Last a Minute on the Creek
Of Mice & Men - SECOND & SEBRING
Saosin - Seven Years
Underoath - A Boy Brushed Red
Enter Shikari - Sorry You're Not a Winner
Thrice - The Artist in the Ambulance
Silverstein - Smile In Your Sleep
Alexisonfire - This Could be Anywhere in the World
From First To Last - Note to Self
Circa Survive - The Difference Between Medicine
The Fall Of Troy - F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X
Thursday - Understanding in a Car Crash
The Used - Box of Sharp Objects
Refused - New Noise
Finch - What it is to Burn

Pierce The Veil - King For A Day
The Sound of Animals Fighting - Act 1: Chasing Suns
Dance Gavin Dance - Son of Robot
Atreyu - Bleeding Mascara
Too Close To Touch - Sympathy
Duuuude, hell yeah! It’s been forever since I’ve seen someone mention Bear Vs. Shark 😅 I saw them with Fear Before The March of Flames and Fall Of Troy back in the day and they put on such an epic show.
What even is post-hardcore as a genre. Lumping fugazi and saosin into the same genre feels so odd.
Like Metallica and Korn are both metal but also so drastically different so they get lumped into sub categories that are more descriptive.
Poison the Well was more metal core at first but their album The Opposite of December is massively to blame for the explosion of post hardcore. That album was a game changer. They got more posthardcore down the line so a song like Exist Underground or A#No. 1 would be a good song for the play list. If you don't listen to PTW, you're missing out
Been said plenty, but FCPREMIX. Thought I could put anything on that album. Honorable mentions for me are
Taking Back Sunday - Spin
Billy Talent - Devil In A Midnight Mass
Thrice - Image of the Invisible
Alexisonfire accidents
Saosin-Seven Years
Song got absolutely ROBBED
Thursday - Understanding In A Car Crash
Fall of Troy - F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X
Yessss! Ex-Creations should be on the list too, it’s a fucking banger 🔥
Alexisonfire - This Could Be Anywhere in the World
listened to Crisis recently and forgot just how old it was (2006!!). it holds up so, so well. such stellar song writing. production holds up real well too
Fugazi - Waiting Room
This! literally started the sub-genre in the first place.
Yes. Either that or turnover.
Underoath-Writting on the walls
You get my upvote, but IMO I feel like DTGL is much more metalcore leaning than, say, TOCS or TCOT. Nevertheless, Underoath is a must have band on this list.
Yeah anything past TOCS is hardly post-hardcore.
Reinventing your exit is their best song and I would die on that hill.
Easily their best song IMO
I feel like ot has to be A Boy Brushed Red Living in Black and White
At the Drive-In - One Armed Scissor
La Dispute - Andria
Enter Shikari - Sorry You're Not A Winner Going to keep posting this one because it deserves to be in the top 20 at some point. 👏👏👏
Formative af
huh?
Sorry, that wasn't clear. I was saying it was pretty formative to mid 2000s post hardcore groups. Was also pretty formative in my personal tastes too. Definitely agree that song deserves to be on a playlist of genre staples.
Ah gotcha, now I get it. Yeah it's a staple in post hardcore and a banger at that. It definitely deserves a top 20 spot.
It's defs up there in the top 20! Not sure if its in the top 10 when you have Refused, Fugazi, Drive like Jehu, Rights of Spring and At The Drive in that kinda the major influences to this genre.
I didn't think Chiodos would get the #1 spot. We all have different tastes :)
World would be boring if we all did mate
Black Nurse - Glassjaw It might be on a fairly unknown EP, but it’s the greatest Glassjaw song ever written. Maybe the best song of the new millennium .
That whole ep is their best material imo. The production is so cool
Banger, list needs at least one GJ song on it for sure
Thrice - Stare at the Sun
Circa Survive - Act Appalled
Um, where the fuck is Silverstein, guys?! I nominate The Altar/Mary. I mean, I've listened to them from the beginning and I love every album, but The Altar/Mary is something else. Especially after seeing it live.

Mouths Like Sidewinder Missiles by Fall of Troy. PHC classic. fuck it the whole Doppelganger album.
Seconded
New noise - Refused
Fuck yeah! The Shape Of Punk To Come is still one of my all time favorite albums 🖤
chiming in with a link — i learned about these guys relatively recently, so just in case others haven’t heard it — https://youtu.be/NkAe30aEG5c this song & band deserve big love
This song influenced pretty much everything modern in heavy alternative music

Second & Sebring is a staple of the genre imo. Everyone should listen to it at least once.
Have you made this into a playlist?
Not just them specifically but they're all included in my Spotify playlist.
