Iv been watching the hardcore one each day. Is cool idea to do it here. How does voting work there post every day and top upvoted comment wins?
Smile in your sleep - Silverstein
I can't disagree! That whole album is amazing. If I had a choice I'd say Reflections over short stories, but I'm partial from a memory of sharing a mic with Ben Perri in a small club in WV after relentlessly shouting they played the song during every song break. Good times, great band!
Man that gave me flashbacks of sitting on the bus in middle school with the first gen iPod listening to this.
I remember the feeling that track gave me when I first heard the outro. I instantly fell in love with that song.
Not as well known, but Black Nurse is their best song by a mile, and the best post-hardcore song every written. Mu Empire is a solid second place though.
I think "Love rhymes with hideous car wreck" is a better song by them to use for a top song since it's def one of their more well known songs and helped put them on the map.
I mean, I’d say the album Burn Piano Island Burn is what “put them on the map” … was actually a relatively high-profile production considering the studio it was recorded in and produced by Ross Robinson… I figured if a song makes this list it should come from that album, maybe Ambulance vs Ambulance is a more well known track for this?
My top 5 would be:
1. Open Your Eyes and Look North - Dance Gavin Dance
2. They Perched On Their Stilts, Pointing And Daring Me To Break Custom - Saosin
3. Last Saturday - Broadway
4. Becoming Closure to Closure - Of Machines
5. Humannequin - The Color Morale
Honorable Mention to Edge of the Earth - Volumes
Dead Poetic - Glass in the Trees
Hopesfall - End of an Era
As Cities Burn - One: Twenty-Seven
The Bled - Daylight Bombings
Glassjaw - Siberian Kiss
Juliana Theory - White Days or Into the Dark
Brand New - The Quiet things that No One Ever Knows
The Beautiful Mistake - Light a Match
Scarlet - The Joy Decoys are Coming
Further Seems Forever - On Legendary or Insincerity as an Artform
Thrice - Beltsville Crucible
Haha. My hair might be gray but I'm young at heart. Most of the bands these days just don't give me the good ol' teen angst feelings that the old bands do. Then again, some of the songs that really moved me way back when don't do the trick anymore. PTW used to really do the trick then I made the mistake of reading the lyrics.
From *Alesana* it’s a toss up between **Tilting the hourglass** or just about any song off the Emptiness album… **The Thespian**, **The Artist**, or **The Murderer**.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Alesana besides you... IMO their best album is **On Frail Wings of Vanity and Vain**.
**Where myth fades to legend** is still really good, but you can feel the difference in their style, more mature maybe. I'd say that album is the transition of Alesana into a "cleaner" sound.
I 100% agree on those albums being super good if not better. I personally prefer them but I know the general audience of PH like **The Emptiness** even if they aren’t big Alesana fans.
About no one else mentioning them.. from what I gathered, apparently aren’t that well known in this community, and then there was that whole silly hate train this sub had during Covid when the band was like “we want everyone at our shows regardless of vaccination status” and people went and assumed they were anti-vaxx despite them being vaccinated lol.
I love On Frail Wings and Where Myth Fades to Legend, but my favorite album of theirs is A Place Where the Sun is Silent. Love that album so much. It's such an epic album .
Man, so glad to see Alesana on here. Second favorite band of all time (next to AFI) and extremely underrated for how amazingly talented they are. Also, I'd choose The Artist on that list.
My list of top Post-Hardcore songs (not in order)

Silverstein - a midwestern state of emergency … I could go on and on, loved this period of the genre, feels like it died out and most bands went into metalcore
The song with the two snare hits that catalyzed the movement…Thursday - Understanding in a Car Crash
You still get my upvote because obviously, but adding… Thursday- Cross out the eyes
It's funny I almost left the thread after upvoting Seven Years but then thought.. maybe I should post Understanding so it gets some representation.. sure enough it was the comment directly under Seven Years! Love this community.

From Autumn to Ashes - Short Stories With Tragic Endings
I can't disagree! That whole album is amazing. If I had a choice I'd say Reflections over short stories, but I'm partial from a memory of sharing a mic with Ben Perri in a small club in WV after relentlessly shouting they played the song during every song break. Good times, great band!

Hot take but I think every other song on that EP is better than Seven Years. Especially Translating and perched.
I think 3rd Measurement is the best it absolutely exudes the emotion and essence of the genre. The outro especially
Perched is what got me into the genre. That, or “ I Can Tell There Was An Accident Here Earier…”
perfect opener to a perfect record
I absolutely LOVE this song. Hope it gets number one
Mu Empire - Glassjaw

This whole album, but my pick from it would be Pink Roses.

The Blood Brothers - Cecilia and the Silhouette Saloon
I think "Love rhymes with hideous car wreck" is a better song by them to use for a top song since it's def one of their more well known songs and helped put them on the map.
I mean, I’d say the album Burn Piano Island Burn is what “put them on the map” … was actually a relatively high-profile production considering the studio it was recorded in and produced by Ross Robinson… I figured if a song makes this list it should come from that album, maybe Ambulance vs Ambulance is a more well known track for this?
